See you, space cowboy

Hello.

I'm sorry to say that this isn't a very difficult message to write. The extended version will follow, but the whole post can be pretty much summarized by one fact: I'm leaving.

Now, the extended version.

I've been playing Graal for a number of years now. I've had an OK time, but I found it most fun in the earlier days simply because back then I didn't have as many interests and thing outside of the internet. Alot of my interaction with other people was through the internet. This is not the case, nor has it been for awhile now. Real life calls.

Now, I'll put out the reasons for my quitting:

a) I've been waiting for months for debug access. Never happens.

b) My account expires in 9 days.

c) I was banned from the forums for a month for quite bogus reasons (though I'm sure someone will probably remove this from my list).

d) I pay for my account and work for Graal, and I get banned. I paid for a month of forum access I didn't get to use, and I paid it while working for Graal.

e) As a result of my banishment from the forums, I was unable to perform my PWA duties properly (which was unequivocably frustrating, given the volume of IMs I get and being unable to post anything regarding the cases).

f) I just moved back to Canada, am in a state of depression since I've just left the one right thing that has happened to me (albeit temporarily), and don't want to deal with the pointless, mundane, repetitive drama that regularly calls me. I'm sick of being an unpaid(money's not an issue, but no debug or account or anything), unappreciated, neglected referee.

g) I'm going to college. I can't afford to dish out money to a game I work for and never play for fun. I don't care how few cakes or trips to the movie theater a month a subscription to Graal amounts to; the fact is, I'd rather take my girlfriend to the movies or give her a cake than play Graal. (but let's not encroach too far on to reason i)

h) There seems to be a lack of interest from Stefan/Unixmad on the potential that a certain server (Graal2001) has. That would really be the only server that would interest me in coming back to play, but I'd still be hesitant to return anyway.

i) Undoubtedly the most important out of all of these: I have a girlfriend now. While I was trying to fulfil my duties and be with her (or talk to her) as much as possible for the past year, I would much rather now just hang out with her and forget about Graal and the internet and everything else (due partially to a through h).

So there you have it. See you on the outside.

-VT

Sad to see you go, but I can see your points for leaving.
It's a shame, because you were very motivated as PWA and tried to do everything you could with the limitations of rights, and reminded myself of me when I was 'PWA' only.

Good luck with college/life, and have fun whereever and whatever.

As an afterthought: can someone please remove my global RC/IP range?

Lance 05-22-2005 08:02 PM

Had you not wished to lose oh so much of your money/time/whatever, you should have considered the consequences prior to breaking the rules.

Just a thought.

Anyway, seeya.

From what I can remember, he made a post concerning Graal2001, it was closed for reasons unknown, and he remade it. I don't know if thats why he was banned, but could be.

About eight times.

Hold on a minute. I just re-read some of his points, and it made me think a bit.

VT:

Your points give me the impression that just because you work(ed) for Graal Online, that you should get special priviledges. Sure, you paid for an account upgrade, just like the rest of us do, but just because you work(ed) for Graal Online, does not mean that you don't have to follow the same rules we all have to follow. You broke the rules, so you were banned. You're complaining that you were banned while working for Graal Online, yeah, so what? We all have to follow the same rules.

It's a shame that some globals actually feel they could act as they wish and not get punished for innapropriate behavior. What really makes me think, is that not only did VT break the forum rules, but then he complains that him getting banned from the forums was wrong, especially since he worked for Graal Online.

Then he complains that he never got debug access. Now, I'm not saying that globals shouldn't get debug access, but what does debug have to do with your work as a PWA? Debug is just a replica of GK, where GK work is done. Why would you need debug access, other then to talk to the other staff? For that you use email.

Then he complains that since he had no forum access, he couldn't do his PWA work. Oh really? I believe they invented things such as email, AIM, MSN, Yahoo, etc. Why would you need to post things on the forums? If you needed anything posted on the forums, then you could've spoken to the higher staff for permission for someone else to post something for you.

Your complaints are not very good at all.

I think he is angry mainly because he feels that the reasons he was banned for were "bogus reasons". Then to further his frusteration because of his unfair banning he wasn't able to preform his dutys as he wanted to.

How is it "bogus reasons"? From what people have said, he remade a thread closed by mods, which is clearly against the rules. Furthermore, it seems that he did it more then once, which just makes things worse.

Maybe he thought that the content of his thread shouldn't have been deleted, perhaps that would explain why he continued to keep remaking it?

"Furthermore" I don't really think we know enough of the specifics, so we really can't judge weather or not what he did was right or wrong.

The rule says that "no member is permitted to recreate [closed or deleted] threads". It doesn't add "unless you think it's okay".

I am no way implying or saying that he did not clearly break the rules by doing what he did. What I am doing however is I am trying to analyze why he did what he did, and weather he was right to have done so or not.

If you want to look at this in black and white, thats your choice.

Gambet 05-23-2005 02:39 AM

Just because he feels the reasons were "bogus", does not mean they were unjust.

Amagius 05-23-2005 02:45 AM

See you, space cowboy. You were pretty cool.

If you acknowledge that he broke the rules then how can you say that the ban was unfair? He was treated at least as harshly as anybody else would've been.

Perhaps the topic which he kept recreating shouldn't have be deleted in the first place? If that is so, then I think it would have been right of him to keep recreating it, even though its against the rules. Can you not remember many times in which someone who will not be named closed many threads that were discussing topics that were perfectly valid? What I'm saying is yes, according to the rules, you cannot remake threads that have been closed without mod permission. However, if that thread shouldn't have been closed in the first place, I can't blame the guy for getting angry at corrupt administration, and remaking his deleted thread. You cannot always apply black and white rules in situations that are in shades of gray.

Wrong.

If you feel that your thread was deleted when it should not have been deleted, then you dont take "the law into your own hands" by recreating the thread. You speak with one of the forum admins about it, rather then acting on your own. What did VT do? He acted on his own, and thus, was punished for his actions (breaking the rules).

This is an opinion, it can't be right or wrong. The only solid thing about this is, that yes he did break the rules. I personally don't blame him for doing what he did and I believe he was right to do so, assumeing that his topic was valid.

How can one break the rules with the right intentions? That's just stupidity. VT was a global, and his actions reflected on the team itself. Everyone is treated equally, and everyone must obide to the forum rules. You agree that he broke the rules, yet you feel it was for the right reasons? You should have no reasons to break the rules at all (of course, there are exceptions in real life situations, but this is a message board for crying out loud).

Velox Cruentus 05-23-2005 05:59 AM

This is how I see it:
- VT's banning on forums was appropiate.
- VT's leaving is still appropiate: Life > Graal.
- VT's argument that Graal he should pay while working on Graal == Appropiate.
- VT complaining he can't work == inappropiate. Use Support Desk.

I guess that's how Graal is. I was trying to get it explained some time ago that Graal should make it more rewarding to actually develope things on Graal. It's all fine and dandy. I posted a thread about things they can improve for players to further their development. This situation is equivelant to donating money to someone who's richer then you.

Leave it to Gambet and Lance to poison your goodbye thread.

They're your reasons and their priorities and opinions mean nothing.

Best of luck my friend.
