Collaborative complaint: The magic system.
This one's big. If you don't want to hear me complain about the flaws in the magic system, please don't read this. It's more of a complaint towards some of the lazy staff bums.
As most of us know, the magic system is pretty screwed up. Actually, It's very screwed up. Most of the spells, when you cast them, have no graphics at all. (Magic Missile, etc.) Others have really wierd graphics and don't work. (Like Runes.) Certain types even lag entire areas to death. (Lightning Wall.) So how should this be dealt with? It's very simple.
First of all, the graphics team should be less focused on creating new graphics for old stuff that was perfectly fine in the first place. (Like the Dragon Pearl. It just needed to be smoothed out a little bit.) Second, they should be focused on correcting most of the things that need to be instead of thinking for about two weeks on what kind of useless item would be fun to add. Runes should actually look like stone runes that you lay upon the ground like traps. Magic missile should use lighting effects and perhaps have a shining star kind of image for the actual bullet. Magic missile is also a little messed up, since when you cast it it tends to appear about 5 feet to the left or right of you. The same goes for summon avatar. (Which should at least be edited so that most of the avatars don't look like normal people.) All of the elemental creatures are rocks, regardless of whether they're earth elementals or not, whis is a really stupid idea. The only difference on them is the colored lighting around them. And there seems to be pretty much no earth types of magic at all. (Which could make things interesting if you think about the flying enemeis idea that I posted in the topic about a new enemy battle system.) A shadow isn't really all that great of a spell animation. It really isn't.
Certain spells like lightning wall and others use entirely too much lighting, and cause things to be very laggy. Once, recently, MasterNuke casted around 3-4 lightning walls, and my computer running on a Chaintec GeforceFX5600 overclocked to 412 Mhz core and 1000 mem slowed down to a miserable crawl. I couldn't even get into the trade house because of it. So yeah, that needs to be worked upon too.
A lot of people tend to complain a lot, also, about magic being used on the game, and that's probably due to the fact that magic resist is incredibly hard to come by. More items should come with magic-resistant stats for each elelment or for magic as a whole so that I can't beat down a level 51 person with icestorm at a magic level of 11. It's ridiculous. (I have the finger of that person to prove it, by the way.) People always complain when you use magic in a battle because it's so darn powerful when used upon people wearing things like dual RoWs and otherwise. The damage that the magic does is fine, but a lot of the armor isn't, since a whole lot of it offers no help against magic.
So far, things have been inproving on GK. Especially with the addition of alchemy. There are only a few more systems that need to be revamped, but I think that this could be one of the most important, since two of the attributes you can level up on GK are magic-related.
