3D Art:

I recently downloaded a program called "Blender". I started to use it today, this is what I managed to get out of it so far after 30 minutes.

It's pretty complicated, once you get used to it you will find it fun though :]

Moonite 01-12-2005 11:23 AM

Blender is a *****
it took us 2 weeks hard work to make a *** game

Snakeandy7 01-12-2005 11:32 AM

Woah, you actually use this?

Moonite 01-12-2005 12:18 PM

Snakeandy7 01-12-2005 12:19 PM

Nifty, I never learned any of this ****. All school tought me was to use microsoft tools >.>. Got 4 B's though.

Splke 01-12-2005 08:08 PM

........ Wow. 3D work must be hard, because I've seen better from you Snakey.

Snakeandy7 01-12-2005 08:25 PM

Blender is great, haven't been using it for some years though, but I would always prefer it over stuff like 3D Studio Max (If I ever get the money).

teshy2 01-12-2005 11:14 PM

Try using the vertices tool, that way you can pick a basic shape and just mold it into whatever you want. Cubes are usually the standard, at least if you aim for low-poly models.

someweirdperson 01-13-2005 12:38 AM

its easier to use 3d studio max x.x

Scott 01-13-2005 01:57 AM

Isn't Milkshape supposed to be more practical?

LogicBot 01-13-2005 04:03 AM

Milkshape is better.

Snakeandy7 01-13-2005 09:10 AM

Is it free and only 2 megabytes? :O!
I don't really know much about Blender, but I have been finding stuff out on my own since I couldn't find a tutorial :[

konidias 01-13-2005 09:56 AM

LoL @ shapes... Man, that's like using the circle and rectangle tool in msPaint. :p

3D Studio Max is the best 3D creation program hands down. People might argue that Blender or Milkshape is easier, but that is complete crap. 3D Studio Max is like molding clay in your hands once you learn how to use it.

The learning curve for 3D is really really really steep though. Once you get past it, the doors will just open up for you.

I've never had to sit down and use the help guide to learn how to use a program before. Until I started using 3DS Max.

3D isn't really that difficult once you understand that it's just really about adjusting vertices using different camera views...

teshy2 01-13-2005 11:20 AM

^ Agreed. Before 3DS, buying books in order to learn software would have been a crazy thought for me.

Though I've always been a little annoyed at Max's interface. Thank god there's shortcuts.
I still use CC for simple objects though.

Snakeandy7 01-13-2005 07:18 PM

Nifty, I think I shall download this "3D Studio Max"

Crono 01-13-2005 10:07 PM

What do you guys think about Lightwave?

teshy2 01-15-2005 09:01 AM

Haven't used lightwave myself, but it was used as the key modelling software in the Serious Sam series.
