Someone fill me in on MNG
Why is it that noone seems to be able to open the gif to mng converter when I click on it it wont open and thats the same thing ive been getting from all my other staff. Somebody fill me in on what the problem is and if possible how to fix
thanks, |
Because you don't open it. You drag the gif file onto the .exe, then it converts the file for you. The new .mng file should appear at the bottom of the dir you're in.
|
thank god for you my man xD genious
|
or dont use mng's?
|
mng's sux0rs maN
I don't really see the point. What is so good about mng files? |
It is a free format for animated bitmaps. Sounds very useful, if you ask me.
|
Only thing which makes MNG bad would be lack of support. If IE was ever to add support for MNGs, the popularity would probably go way up.
MNGs work better than Gifs, and maybe they'll one day replace them. |
yeah, MNG > GIF. I hate gif so anything can pwn it. >:]

yeah the retarded adopted sister of png. its only differnce from gif is the option to have more than 8 bit color. which is stupid because the file size gets insanely huge.

That's right. MNG. |
I perfer MNG, I just wish there was more support for it.

Well the thing is I need mng because gif doesent work on the script I made for a class and mng does but now that I have converted it the graphic starts to work but when it gets to the end it seems like it wont loops so I am disapointed and turn to useing the crappy old png with no movement

good thing i wont be writing any programs in the near future. and i have never needed more than 256 colors for an animation. its a copycat format that has no purpose. theres nothing "better" about it!
IE doesnt support it, AIM doesnt support it. why use it? |
It is superior in each category I can imagine.
|
Just because IE doesn't support it doesn't mean it's not an all around better format?
Once IE and some other browsers start adding support for MNG, it's likely to replace GIF as the preferred format for animations. Same thing happened with PNG for still images. |
Mozilla, however, dropped mng support from the core distribution.
|
I cant see it being superior the only reason I used it is because my statue doesent support GIF because its fun threw a class if I was able to use gif I would cause it acctually works but I have a light that flashes out and back in on my sunglassed and once they went out on mng they froze like that and never returned so Ill just stick to gif
|
omg you are totally right i just realized right now that mng is far superior to any format because

Two incredibly crappy programs don't support a format whose capabilities are superior to an obsolete format from the 90s! WHY USE SOMETHING NEW WHEN YOU CAN STAY IN THE PAST? WHY HAVE COLOR TV? WHY HAVE ANYTHING MORE THAN AN NES?! AHHHHHHHH. Hi. |
IE and AIM are the present sonny. everyone uses them. (John titor)

Also, I don't see how IE is the present if it's out of date and slowly losing market share to other browsers? |
Gradient boy likes to argue. :[

Microsoft > little corperations :(
Die bill die. |
whatever scott! i think your just looking to pick a fight with the 8-Bit Kid.
|
8-Bit kids have style. *Cough* Gradients, lol.
|
i just used a gradient just now. like just right now as soon as i read that. my hand was on the gradient tool. isnt that ironic??
|
Notice your sig lately haro? I see 2 gradients without looking very hard. Your precious programs don't allow for gradient fills in 8 bit sir.

With MNG you have a lot more possiblities, the image can contain 24bit, alpha channels, contain jpegs, and if the exporter of the animation programs would support the mngs well then the mngs would be much smaller in size than gifs. With v3 you have support for all mng features.
If you want to make an animation that works with all versions of Graal then gif is probably enough, and it's free now too. |

IE and AIM are inferior to many other solutions out there which are free. I have not used AIM for years, and IE only on computers that are not mine, and mostly only to download a replacement. |

well i know what IRC or MSN or whatever your using is, but none of my freinds use them. I use aim to chat and share pictures, and it works just fine.
the sig is a screenshot from Sol Grotto. the gradient is probably a passing wave. nothing i can do about that. stefan, alpha channels in v3? Do you mean something like partial transparency built into the image, sort of like active anti-aliasing? if that is the case then this is interesting... ^^ i defenitely have use for this. |

Yes alpha channels work in v3, with pngs and mngs

I could care less about gradients, that boat looks good. I dont care how it was made.
|
i dont see what the big deal is about the gradient bashing. sure i could go back and redo all of my old gfx, but i have more important things to do than reduce the filesizes by infinitesimal amounts to make you (Nullify) happy. I actually plan on finishing the job.
and for the record it is a blurred layer of black with reduced opacity. |
