Forum closing
Not sure if I'm supposed to puit forum based ideas here, but I have one. You shhould make it so when a person makes a thread they have minimal mod powers over their threads noly, or at least the right to close it.
Reg Mods can close threads unless it has changed, but only in their own Forum they Mod over.
I mean each user can close their own threads and such w/o being a mod
Some people may abuse moding there forums. The only "powers" they should have on there thread is able to delete other peoples post (if necessary, like if your asking for a rating and they give you a bad one you delete it, then no) or closing the thread if something you asked was answered etc.
that's y i said at least closing the thread. I know too many powers would make people abuse, i mean ability to close mostly. others would be unneeded for most things, except for deleting arguments that brew
People closing their own threads would be a complete disaster to these forums...
not really it would allow people to end their threads when they get off topic or it no longer has a purpose but a mod doesnt seem to feel it needs to be closed
Let's say I had a house, and I invited my friends to visit it, and to express themselfs there.
Let's say these friends starting ruining my mom's favorite lamp, or my dad's favorite gadget, would I kick them out, or scold them? I think so... Let's say they were smoking dope... I would tell the Police. Consider the thread my house, the friends you, and the police the super mods. |

*shrug* if you want to kick your friends out of your house at random then go ahead, it's your house.
Would only create chaos on the forums, and anger people needlessly.
Indeed.
Giving mod powers to Graalians is not going to decrease the pointless moderation that is going on. |

He only wanted the power to close threads/minimum moderation powers. |

Im just saying you would close threads, like the house analogy, if you want to close the door and stop new people from coming in, then you should be able to, without telling your parents (Mods), or the police (supermods). Also a normal mod could ovvveride the power if needbe and prevent the thread from closing if the person who made it abuses.
This is a discussion forum. I do not think that you should be able to prevent me from discussing a topic. The rules still disallow the continuation of closed threads.
I just ignored everything you guys said and will put my input on it.
NO. If a thread starter starts an argument and is losing, he'll close it. If someone who female dogs at everything is the thread starter it will be closed. Just, no. No, seriously, no. |

can't you already delete your thread for a day after starting it?
as long as it is done within 24 hours yes, after that no a Mod has to.
Now for my opinion. If someone does close it prematurely because their a **** they could make it so that person doesn't have those rights with their posts anymore. I think that being able toc lose your threads when they stray offtopic or server their purpose would be very useful.

I'm not talkinga bout deletion, i'm talking about closing, i agree that delting their threads anytime isnt good but closing them is.

well u dont want to always have to have a moderator have to close your threads for you, and they wont always do it either. That's why you should be able to close your own threads

So, bearing that in mind, there is no need to add such a thing. Quote:
If a moderator won't close a thread for you, there is quite probably a good reason. This goes hand-in-hand with what I just said. |

Giving members just about any moderation powers causes more problems than it will solve. If you won't understand that the moderators can do their jobs on their own, go with that.

I'm pretty sure that when there are several pages of spam, moderators can and will remove spam and close the topic if it has served it's purpose (everyone involved in said discussion is done). |

Lance is right as far as there is no rule against going "off topic" in a thread. If it strays too far then it is up to the Mod's discretion to split the thread or not.

Well if moderators actually split threads when they should, yes i would agree, they never do though, and that shadows the point of the thread if not answered yet.
Any actual example?
