Custom PM replies from NPC Server?

I have a system on Elemental kingdoms where if u chat certain things ur pmd something, but this confuses people and they are always pming the server, how do u set it so if the server is pmd something, it pms something back?

Tolnaftate2004 09-13-2004 03:10 AM

NPC Code:

if (pm){
if (strequals(#p(1),hi)) sendpm Hi.;
}

falco10291029 09-13-2004 04:04 AM

Never saw that flag, thanks

falco10291029 09-13-2004 04:31 AM

Crap it isnt working the server will only send I am the npcserver and blah

ZeroTrack 09-13-2004 03:44 PM

How come you always have simple problems.... either learn on your own or give up scripting please...

Control NPC should do something like if (created) setpm;

This is how you learn, let him go on this way. Atleast he wants to learn and is willing to say his problems. This isnt only a place for elites to show off their gigantic 3D 1337 scripts.

Back in the levels forum people do post very ugly levels and yet we dont tell them to go away and we do help with problems they have. You guys should do the same.

He should build up his problems, then post them all in one post instead of annoying us about every tiny problem.

Loriel 09-13-2004 06:37 PM

No. It is better to have each problem in a separate thread. That makes it easier to look them up.

Dach 09-13-2004 08:08 PM

Well, that's no good, my commands.rtf didn't have those commands/events... *fix*

Certain simple problems like this aren't easily solved with documentation and such. The solution wasn't exactly right in front of him, so querying here is fine.

ZeroTrack 09-13-2004 09:14 PM

Eh dont mind me iam cranky today, the control NPC has to set a flag like setpm then do if(pm) the #p(1) is = to the first word typed in the chat to the npc server

Zero Hour 09-13-2004 09:53 PM

Yea, you see bad graphics in the graphics forums everyonce in a while... but you can't expect everyone to be able to kung fu (:

Infact, if more of these little problems were presented and solved with the help of other more talented scripters then perhaps more people would be interested in learning to script...?

Hell, I'm only just learning to work with the NPC server (;

falco10291029 09-13-2004 11:54 PM

OK thanks i will do what i can now, and as for every little problem, I only post things where you cannot open commands.rtf or some tutorial to get the answer. I have actually tried figuring this out for myself for over a month now!

falco10291029 09-13-2004 11:56 PM

I added setpom and it still doesnt work! I will keep experimenting but if you think i'm doing something obvious wrong done hesitate to help :D
EDIT: Got it to work forgot a }

I hate to call you out on this one Crono, but those things are slightly different. With levels and graphics, they are basically cosmetic and it's like an "art" so to speak. Generally there is no "text-book" answer of what is wrong, it's all about physical appearances. With scripting, there are documents and such written, as it's not about appearance, but how the script is written, works and operates. It's the whole "apples and oranges" thing.
This is the equivalent of basically trying to learn a new programming language, and rather than sit and search and try and play around, just asking how to do something. It gets monotonous when all you need to say is RTFM and walk away ;)
On the other hand, if it's genuine such as this thread, I have no problems answering. I generally answer most questions that I read but if it's something that you KNOW they would know if they bothered to read any of the solutions or documents we've put up before, it gets quite annoying/rude.

Yeap, but they follow traits discovered by artists to emulate natural appearance, and when you deviate without skill it usually looks like one of Crono's pieces, now if you deviate with experience *points over shoulder to Scott who is scribbling madly into a sketching book* You get kung fu.

There is a right and a wrong in graphics.

I don't recall working for you, lol. But oh well. I'm around, just been quite busy with the move and my new job and my new school.
I did also forget to mention that I am starting to work on the documentation for the new engine =)

Yes, was my sentiments exactly. I fail to see how that proves ANYTHING about the point that you were boss of GST members prior?

Just next time use evidence that supports your claims ;)

Ning wasn't a global scripter, though.

So, one worked for you. That's still not anywhere near 'most'.

See, this is an exasmple of what i meant in my other thread (forum closings). this needs to be closed,plain and simple, it has served it's purpose.

No. It now has a new purpose.

Kindly refer to any of my previous posts where I explain that "serving its purpose" is neither against the rules nor warranting closure.

falco10291029 09-18-2004 11:26 PM

Then split the thread and close this one (pming the server), that, i believe, is the best moderation decision here.
