Styles.
Styles here. Ideals there. Perspectives everywhere. Art is diverse, opinion oriented, and a prime example when it comes to culture. We draw, we doodle, we paint, we sketch. What drives us to do so? We strive to learn, we wish for recognition. So many fixtures, so many concepts. How do we start? Where do we end. How do we draw the line for a happy medium?
Tsunami of wtf. |
I handraw a lot, but I am just getting into computer graphics.
|
I used to handraw things, but somehow I fell out of practice (not like I was uberly good to begin with, though.)
However, I am now smitten with isometric graphics. Especially stuff along the lines of Zoggles work. |
Has something rogered scott's brain, or something? X_x
|
It's the shrooms, the shrooms I say!
We must open his skull and remove a part of his brain, that will make it all good again!, says Dr. Von Funkelstein, mister of mysterious medecine, year 1786. But so yeah. We start in ourselves, and end nowhere, that's what I believe. You seldom find people who do art just for art's sake, it's more for themselves, if you know what I mean. Becoming a great artist must go through the heart, not the urge for fame or money (there are better careers for those goals anyway). You want to express yourself, draw what's in your head and be proud of the results. The image comes from the outside, into your head, where it transforms. The end result is your image, a reflection of you. Of course you lose some of that image, but that's a part of all creative processes. Everything affect us, and culture is a big part of that. Uhm... yah. In conclusion, I would just like to say, I'm Iiinga from Sweeeden. Wtf, Scott, your weirdness is contagious. >:| |
I draw comic style stuff blended with anime using pencil then I ink it.
|
I close my eyes, imagine the picture I want to draw, draw it blind on a paper, and then Im using my paint shop pro ^^
|
I draw objects now based on their shades. Might sound a bit odd, but I still do shapes and such as he outline the object I'm going to shade. It makes stuff look much more realistic.

Well I don't know my style... I look at something and I see it's outline, then I see the colors that build the outline and the shades/tones of color that make up the detail within the object... then I try to emulate it... I cannot really do a very good cartoonish style... I have a weird one.

Well I never had much ambition to make a career out of any sort of creativity. Growing up though, I had an imagination. Not so much of creatures and stuff, but I liked to put together stories in my head, of possible futures, or scenarios regarding my favorite comic book when I was a child (Sonic x_x). I would just develop stuff in my head, and then I felt compelled to put it on paper, I dunno, just so I could see it. Thats really been my only motive irl.
I still have issues 0-80 or so, of Sonic the Hedgehog, in California stored away somewhere. I have the first 15 or so issues of Knuckles, too. Every 3 issues were a storyline and the 3 covers of those 3 issues made one giant picture (of Knuckles series, only). I had some thing I made called War on Mobius, and I had created all these factions...Including some race that I invented from an alternate demension. My favorite theme that I drew stuff based around was my Earth Solar / Earth Lunar war. That whole idea was generated off of some tid bit I overheard. The moon doesnt revolve (spin), it simply orbits the earth, with the same side facing the earth at all times. Heavinly bodies normally spin, infact I cant think of one other instance of a planet or moon not having a day/night cycle at all. I've actually heard 2 explainations to this. One is that the Earth had slowed the Moon's rotation over time to a point where it finally stopped spinning. This is the explaination my story based itself around. The other explaination I have heard more recently, like within the past 2 years, and it deals with aliens and the like so its discredited almost instantly by almost everybody who hears it so nevermind about that. Anyways, suppose that millions if not billions of years from now, the earth's rotation is slowed to a point where it stops, so the same side is always facing the sun and the other side is always facing away. I just started picturing this world, and considered how the permanent temperature changes would be so dramatic on either side, and also considered that humans could have survived this long considering their intelligence which enables them to be very adaptable to different conditions. I basically invented 2 off-shoots of the human species, ones which evolved over a vast expanse of time to be more fit for their localized enviornment. The lunar people ended up having black eyes (to see in the dark) and being paler and generally physically weaker, because their lives are devoted much more to intellectual work and are very technologically advanced etc. The solar side, was more of the brute. The bulky goblin-ish looking guys that are more war mongering than their counterparts. I created some other alien races but most of my pictures dealt with the lunar and solar people. I dont have much left from those days, I drew much of this in middle school and early high school. But I have this one pic that was scanned years ago on another comp, some of you may have seen it before, dont know. It happens to be a combat scene from the lunar/solar theme. |
Zen I'm still a sonic freak. Well I kinda stopped after dreamcast because sonic + nintendo = bad mix but whatever.
I also think of scenerios(spelling?) with my favourite characters. I like to mix Sonic with DBZ ._.; |

Ok since LordZen told his whole Story I will do so too (and because I don´t know what to do)
Im German, so I played most the time (all the time) on the only German Server avaible: Atlantis. That was 5 years ago.. my goal: I wanted to become Level Tester (yea it was a job lol) I never became Level Tester -_- When "new" Atlantis came out the Staff decided to copy the Graal 2001 Bomys. They called them "Namys".I never had gfxed something before, but I tried to make a Namy template by myself. It looked great, so great that I made 6 new ones :) Then Nils came.... he saw that I was good and hired me.I was so happy because it was my first staff position! We made Auroria Online...(yes you remember right) Nils was a lier, maybe the biggest one on earth :) (but thats another very, very long story) Ivie was GFX Admin on Atlantis while I was working for Nils. She visited me one time on Auroria and asked me to become GFX on Atlantis.Since Atlantis was my Home server I became staff there (Im still today).I did great work there, I improved my skills and did bigger and bigger things.Ivie left and I became GFX Admin. While being staff on Graal, I started working on other non-Graal projects for a short or a long time. With guy (I forgot his name) I started doing a game called "********" I think it was only a Metal Slug Clone ^^ I did my favorite gfx there: http://www.angelfire.com/art2/garela...eaven_spec.jpg Then I tried out ******* and *******, nothing special both were never finished.I went back to Auroria and Nils.It wasnt a graal server anymore. It was a new game with a new engine every week. (This green thing called Nuu was created there ^^ Oh I love Nuu) Then I met Godspeed! Don´t know why but he aksed me to be GFX Admin on a new Server he was going to do.Tempest of Time ( I think it was the greatest server I ever saw )I did a lot of work there and then we stopped. It was the greatest thing ever happend.Stefan took the whole Staff of Tempest (means Godspeed ,Er1c,Krakken and some others) to develope Graal Kingdoms with him.I thought he would take me too but it wasn´t so.2 month I waited everyday on Graal2001 just to talk to Stefan and finally he added me to the Kingdoms Staff. That was a great time :D You know who hasn´t dreamed of being hired by Stefan himself XD So I worked there....and then it was finished.I left my debug RC and went back to atlantis.I was lazy.I loved doing nothing and it was great to idle as a Senior GFX. With new energy I started to climb higher on the ladder.I decided to become a member of the Global GFX Team.So I met LordZen :) I missed all the GGT applications in the Forums so I needed again many month to get Zen to hire me.He did :D And now Im here.. this was my rags to riches story.Noone knows what will happen in the future, but I have plans ;) |
You mentioned other mmorpg Garels.
|
eek damn, but they don´t exist anymore so its not wrong or?
I will delete them lol |
Nice story. I never got to riches, still in rags :(
|
Nice story Garel, wasnt entirely on topic though, lol. Wasnt supposed to be so much about graal staff positions and the such.

I'm more or less all digital in my artwork. I've been using PhotoImpact in different versions ever since I discovered it on a bonus cd that came with out first computer, which was about 5+ years ago. I'm very attatched to it.
As for stuff I do, it's usually websites, signatures, game material, 3d models and the occassional "arty" picture where I express myself. I can sketch somewhat, but as I seldom really draw on paper I don't rely on it. My favorite style is cartoon and cel-shading, I just lovez it. Zelda wind waker is the best looking game made so far IMO. Isch will not be doing a career in graphics.. or at least I don't plan on it. ;x |
