Thank you very much! ^^

I dislike your bevel and texture use. Rework it, please.

Oldbie 06-19-2004 01:19 AM

I never use psp, I just got it so I desided to make a GUI with it.

I usually go by Pixelation in MSPaint

MSPaint=TehPwntage

But hey, whatever looks good...

Sorry about double post.

This is menu out...

Should I make boxes for the items to fit or do you think its fine the way it is?

Scott 06-19-2004 01:47 AM

If you truely did do that in MSPaint, to some extent I'm impressed by the quality of the repeating texture. I'm not too fond of your custom bevel and emboss styles though. I also think the overall design of the GUI needs more shape, to give it some 'oomph.'

Oldbie 06-19-2004 01:56 AM

Well I did not used any Embossing. I just used texture in the backround, the rest was me

alarid0 06-19-2004 01:57 AM

the shape and everything works, but i dont like the texture

haunter 06-19-2004 02:01 AM

Ew, I REALLY don't like that texture.

Do you think using a texture is ok?

Which do you think would better suit a GUI?

Nappa 06-19-2004 03:24 AM

I don't like it at all.

Wow, Thanks for all of your advice...wait thats right...you don't do anything?

I tend to listen to people whom are better than me at something like Alarid and Scott

Even then they'd have to HELP in order to prove something is wrong.

Sorry but when I showed a bunch of PLAYERS OF GRAAL they loved it so I think thats all that mattered^^

What kind of crap is this ?

I don't need to be good at anything to tell you something sucks. I'm not a chef but I know that a piece of crap tastes like.. well.. crap.

And I am a player of graal. I don't have this subscription just to say "Oh yes, I'm subscribed!"

You're going to get good and bad things said about your work. If you can't even deal with one little comment, then you might as well not post any more of your works anymore.

Oldbie 06-19-2004 04:25 AM

What I'm saying is if your going to give negative reviews then tell me whats wrong.

Trevor 06-19-2004 04:29 AM

He was no obligation to.

And when you reply to someone please use the quote button. If using quick reply in non-threaded view it is that blue button located next to the quote button. :)

Yes but you must understand your option will be held higher if you are good at graphics.

What he was saying was basically "You can't do gfx, so you have no right whether to say something is good or bad". I don't care how high he holds my opinion, I still know if something is good or not (to me, anyway).

Yes you are right.

It's called an "opinion". Since you did not specifically state that you're here to get help, we do not have to tell you what's wrong.

Can we say "spanked", oldbie?

Anyway, yeah, i think it's horrible. The green makes me want to vomit, its just not a nice colour at all. Then you went ahead and made some nasty white shading or embossing or whatever, which makes it look plastic or metallic in places, which makes the green even worse - if it was a natural green, i could cope, but that is bad. Then the outline is all scratchy and nasty in various places, like you've carved the shape out of an eggbox or something. Then theres the writing and the letters. They don't stand out very well (partly because they're indented into the gui lol) and again, they're just a darker sickening green.

After having made various attempts at making guis myself (and failing each and every time because i suck at GUIs) i've learnt that patterns and textures like that don't work very well. Now, when i look at GUIs that some servers have, like GK and valikorlia, i think "Wow, their GUIs are so simple, which looks nice :)". It's because GUIs are there to serve a very crucial purpose; they hold your items and the info about your stats. If you're distracted from the items (and how nice they look <3) and your stats, just to look at some boring nasty pattern, you're not a happy bunny. Or at least, i'm not a happy bunny when it happens to me, dunno about anyone else :)

Goboom 06-20-2004 03:23 AM

Oldbie, it's call constructive criticism you take it as is and respect everyone for it. Thats the only way you will get better. You listen to everyones opinion and respect their opinion no matter if they think it is good or bad. I would rate it right now but I am only on 16 colors because I have not installed XP yet, tommarow I should have my colors back and I will come and CRITICISE the peice.

Curt1zzle 06-20-2004 04:32 AM

Nice idea , but um...very bad coloring I think :).

I just don't like the texture and the patterns in it... Sorry ^_^

Edit: Looks like you used way too many effects and tools in the coloring

I only used one texture...no other effects

Ok, it is quite clear that you used white shading (or some other effect) along the sides which, as Monkeyboy_McGee said, gives the image an artificial, plastic feel.

You might want to say, "No I didn't." But, I wouldn't suggest it; that would just show that you just use random effects that you don't understand on the default value (well, maybe you changed the color to green).

You may now take your foot out of your mouth. :)

You now officially owe me an apology, man. Mostly for trying to insult me, calling me stupid, when in fact you were only showing yourself to be stupid, because i was right, you were wrong, and you didnt even know the details of your own piece.

Also, ever since you got an account transfer to that *Oldbie account to pretend that you aren't [insert regular arseface that wants to hide his identity] and started posting on these forums, you've been pissing me right off. You double post, you post negative things just about everywhere, you insult people all too freely, and you don't even follow the rule which seems to be spammed about the forums lately. That rule is:

Think-->Write-->Read-->Post-->Edit

Either start thinking a bit more about what you post, or stop posting at all, man. =/

Curt1zzle 06-20-2004 07:53 PM

Also, if you look at it, there ARE paterns oldbie. Either you copy and pasted a hell of a lot, or you used a tool o.o

Yes, there is a pattern in it...look on the attachment. It'd look better if you took away any repeats in the fill. It's a small enough space through out the whole GUI that you shouldn't need a repeat. Also, some area's looked smudged. Try and make it more distinct. As far as color's, if your going to use this I hope it's going to be in a trashy look of a player world, with urban destruction and junk yards. The colors that you used reminds me of the dump or junk yard. (This isn't intended towards negativity (sp?) it's just the shade of green you used) And no offense, but around the letters it does look like you used some sort of bevel effect =x...If you didn't use an effect try to improve on it a bit, it looks out of place compared to your other hair line bevels.
