I'm a newbie and I need help on a few things.
1. How do you make boards? I can get logs, but I don't how to make boards from them.
2. What is the exact coin equivalent? I know 5 gold coins equal 1 plat, but I don't know the others.
3. How do you get iron plates, blades, and such? You don't get them from mining, so how do you get them?
That's pretty much it. And, please don't just ridicule me for being a newbie and say figure it out.

after you get the logs, find a saw mill
Stand on the left end and press "a"
then a log should get chopped into 5 boards which appear on the other end
nobody really pays attention to how much logs and boards are worth

as for iron items, craft a pair of pliers out of an iron bar
then find an iron stove, light it with coal, and put an iron bar on it
when it turns red, pull out your pliers and press "s" to take it off
go to the water barrel and press "s" to cool it off
then go to a gray anvil and press "s" to craft something
it's important to press "s" when using the pliers
If you press "a", you'll end up just grabbing the iron and stopping the whole process
