Nah nah Playerworlds

I can see, that many of these playerworlds have been up for awhile, and I have been to most of them. Scratching out the lack of originality in just about all of them, I wanna say that I really do not think any of these playerworlds will ever be out for public usage. Most people buy playerworlds thinking they can improve on, or make a better playerworld than whats out there, but then they never find enough people, or they get boreded with the project very fast. Waste of money really...

So, as a recommondation for anyone who is thinking of making a playerworld: Make the playerworld before you actually buy the server. This way, you save money and time you have on that playerworld! '

Another thing I have noticed, is that out of some of the playerworlds that have gone public (*Gasp*) each of them has only lasted for a few weeks, or maybe a month (I speak of Enigma and Bravo) that they actually stay up and have players playing.

The thing is, is that most of you are wasting your money. Sure, your supporting Graal and all, but you really must have a good server to make, and not a crappy one, that will never make it. So basic advise is make the server ofline first, and then when its all finished, buy the server, upload everything, fix any bugs and what-not, and then go public! Dont waste your money for Cyberjouer!

Note: Most, if not all, of you will not aggree with me, saying stuff as; well its their money. What would you know? Its nice to have something to look forward too to work on. And etc etc. But hear this, out of all the playerworlds you have made or worked on, have any of them actually made it to public? I think not.

Have a nice day. Thanks in advance for any or all comments.

Heh I dis-agree.

Many people make the server before buying it, this only counts for the levels becuase scripts need to be tested online.

Edit: Oh yeah I dis-agree ^^

WanDaMan 05-05-2004 06:59 PM

without being online in the first place you poor people might screw up in a script, i.e
adding
join mushroom;
clientsided, when it's serversided (i believe?) and then you'll have to go all over the server checking for this :)
fun fun

Dach 05-05-2004 07:04 PM

A good point well made ^^
I doubt many people will care though, if enough people lacked the thought to do it right in the first place, others will do the same.

Scripts don't really need to be tested, and even so you can test them after doing most of the work offline and making sure that a PW is truely a good investment. Buying something that you may not use is just plain and simply a poor decision.

There are many benefits to the purchase such as the ftp, RC for communication and promoting it to players. You shouldn't make a post saying "EYE R TINKZ U SHOULD NOT GIEV MONEY 2 CYBERJOUR0RS." Most people are aware of what they're doing and like to support Graal, why try to change what _they_ want? Personally I believe many of the PWs public should not be. Enigma should have never gone up either, was it even inspected? =/ Ah well. What you posted isn't very healthy for you round here >_>

LegendaryTsukasa 05-05-2004 08:51 PM

Ahem, being here isnt healthy for me.

I already have a reputation for being raciest (Somehow) and a whole buncha other ****.

At least one person aggrees with me.

kabouter 05-05-2004 09:06 PM

I agree with Chris, if people buy the server it is there choice.
You can say that you think it is stopid to buy a server, no problem but thats your opinion.

Bravo is plannign a huge update so we are not really caring that much about our player count...
We know it is droping and we also know it will rise back up once we relase this update.
http://www.bravo-online.net/
Look at my HUGE update I typed up...
That took my a while :\

Myukoi 05-06-2004 04:09 AM

Oh, guns. No thanks for Bravo. :[

LegendaryTsukasa 05-06-2004 06:02 AM

And all I'm saying, is that you should really try out your "server" offline before you go and spend money on one, to only have to pay more because you havn't finished it up yet.

Dach 05-06-2004 07:32 AM

choices can be bad, hence the point

doesn't matter anyway, all them blegh servers will never see the light of day
aslong as good servers aren't pushed aside from lack of room, nobody is getting hurt from others' poor choices
Hell, I still have yet to see a good server (aside from potentially good servers) x_x

Darlene159 05-06-2004 12:06 PM

Lots of money is spent during a person's lifetime on hobbies, and that's pretty much what this is, a hobby. The money isnt wasted if you are enjoying what you are doing, even if it doesnt make it public.

WanDaMan 05-06-2004 12:12 PM

Bravo's a great server, you're just disliking it because of it's name. Just because it's evolved, like the name states dosn't mean you shouldn't play it. I mean, just because the name dosn't resemble new bravo, dosn't mean you shouldn't play it..

protagonist 05-06-2004 12:54 PM

Reasons to have a server:

It is difficult to play with yourself offline (you can't test events that would need 1< people.)

Developers would rather join a server that is up in some form or another.

It provides you the chance to show people your work without it being stolen, and also lets people see it in action.

It lets you make sure your ideas really pan out, if you don't have working scripts you can't see if maybe you made something too easy or too hard.

It's alot more fun.

Crono 05-06-2004 03:59 PM

[bs]I agree with him. Playerworlds suck and now since money is involved no one gives a crap what kind of "private" server is up.[/bs]

Dach 05-06-2004 05:52 PM

wth
You don't need a server to atleast make an overworld, create your simple clientside weapons (movement, hp included even if they contain a small portion of serverside), or to make a tileset/any other gfx. So, point being, get further into the development process before purchasing a PW.

It is a good idea to do so, but some people might need a server to really get motivated.

Which part of "I hate Bravo" wasn't clear? Besides, thatd not even part of the conversation at hand, so ****.

Also, I feel that, even if buying the server gets you "motivated" to play and attracts some players, people get very lazy with themselves, and do not wish to work on their servers any longer. Also, if they are working on it, and *BLAM* Your time has gone out, you never want to work on it again. Its much easier to work everything out offline, and then upload it. Once its uploaded, you can attract players to test everything out. If players do not like something, or there are bugs, errors, etc. You fix them. It takes a shorter amount of time on both how much money you spend, and how long it takes you to bring up your server.

Show off everything you've made, after you've made it, and you've tested it out yourself. You don't need to buy a server for that.

I just feel people are wasting their money of something that will never work. It takes more than a good idea to make a business, or in this case a server.
