make sound replacement illegal damn it.

When ever I log on random servers some servers have custom sword sounds that replace the def graal sword sounds. I really think they should make this illegal as its annoying having to redownload the damn sound file =/.

I'll globalmsg again, but I did make a post before about it, and quite a few changed. But those were mostly images.

Thanks spark :D. It really is annoying having that replaced, I'm glad you care.

Spark910 05-02-2004 04:59 PM

Its annoying here too, as people think a PW stole their files when its just a generic name like 'bomb.png'

ETD 05-02-2004 06:52 PM

what's annoying also, is when a server replaces your *ctrl + letter* emoticons
=(

Ugh, We should use that idea of each server getting a folder on you hard drive to download the gfx, sounds, and music too. This way you wont have "1000 little image files assulting your hard drive, Kaimetsu"

I am 100% infavor of separate playerworld download folders

Or, PWs could just perform smart-naming techniques. You know, either way.

Crono 05-03-2004 06:05 PM

my Ctrl+i is still a green smiley with a ^_^ face jumping around. Damn you server that did this to me >:O

Mr-Cool 05-03-2004 06:36 PM

Certainly not with that kind of attitude?

If your server employs proper naming techniques (and follows the rules, of course) there should never be a complaint about your server stealing graphics. :)

As for the legality of it: It is not "illegal" per se, but it certainly is pretty stupid to name your graphics something too generic - 'speaker.gif' is an example. servername_speaker.gif, or even yourname_speaker.gif would be excellent - also, if another server is using yourservername_speaker.gif, it becomes trivial to prove that it was stolen. :)

In such cases, one of us with a shiny global RC does some research.
