Never save anything that requires detail as a jpeg please :(..

Why is everyones first graphic something like a gun? Why cant people make nice things like a lighter or something :(.

Anyway save the ogrinal that has not been screwed over with jpegs lousy crap detail saving as a png file or gif and then we can properally judge this.

Dont anyone turn this into a "omg jpeg is fine and donald you are crazy thread" because yeah I am aware that camras take pictures as jpegs and that those usally look fine and you can adjust the quality in which jpeg saves. I just happen to dislike jpeg because it usually saves things with crap quality and makes them look bad.

You can still save an image and keep detail as a JPEG, but depends on what program you use. Back off the use of JPEGs, it's pissing me off.

It's for era or a cheap make of era I'm assuming.
My first GFX was something for Graal Kingdoms, what was yours donald?

Mine was an animated lighter, it was pretty decent.

Monkeyboy_McGee 04-26-2004 04:57 PM

Hm, congratulations to donald for changing this thread from a c&c topic to a "what was your first graphic" thread on the very first post XD
My first graphic was a bunch of cakes. :D

Anyway, hm, i don't really like the gun to be honest. It doesn't really scream out to me "hunting rifle" it looks more like, i dunno, a german WWII machinegun or something, except not, because i have no idea what those look like o_O

haunter 04-26-2004 07:50 PM

I don't like it... And in this case, I agree with Donald... The guy should've used a GIF or PNG for this image...

It's an obvious first try. But, I must disagree with Donald on one point: Guns can be beautiful, too. M1, I don't like guns, but that's a kick-ass looking gun. I dunno, it's not very good, if it's for graal. Nice first attempt, though.

You mean aligned?
Also, while this image could have been saved in a different format, JPEG is fine depending on the program you use. Proof in attachment.

me too :frown:

:spam:

anyways, yea, JPEGs are good if you want to decrease the filesize, at expence of quality.... but int he case of such a small graphic, this should probably be in PNG...

I think Donald is more against people not knowing how to use JPEG's properly, than useing them in general...

Davidpsy, you really look like you offered some sort of explanation on how JPEGS can be used properly. For some reason, when I read your post, I thought all you said was "never save anthing that requires detail as a jpeg", I must be in dire need of glasses.

How do you know it was a general statment, maybe he was talking to this particular person, since obviously he doesn't know how to do it properly?

Because no advice was given. :whatever:

(considering this guy's new to gfx design, I'm sure he has more important things to learn, rather than to spend the time on learning how to save an image to jpeg properly...)
besides, unless you're going to use JPEG to decrease filesize, why use it at all? Might as well use PNG, and then you don't have to worry about all that...

alarid0 04-27-2004 05:16 AM

Well if that IS for graal...uh...yeah... I'd hate to see the size of the planned bodies.

also

Dont expect everyone to avoid putting their two cents in about jpegs when you manage to throw your own in. lol

The side views of that image I like, but I dislike how the up and down sprites were drawn. Given, I do realize its sort of difficult for most people to make those decently.
