Natural Disasters

How cool would it be if there were occassional natural disasters? Like pouring rain that causes the water level to rise... or a tornado that sucks people in and flings them... or an earthquake that makes people get knocked to their feet when they stand or walk!

Edit: Also it would keep house owners in line with their maintainance... normally when a tornado rolls over your house... ^^

Limelight Panda 04-25-2004 11:20 PM

That would rule, not only that, but they could damage the houses, and would actually make people think where to put their houses. *Imagines a big Tsunami* Sweet..... And it hurts people in battle mode, and peaceful.

What about a sandstorm?

and offtopic:

Will there ever be other islands? (Not kingdom) like... where one might have a huge desert, and the other a archapelago?

Dehitay 04-26-2004 01:34 AM

Dehitay fears natural disasters
How about rare occurances of something like a new kind of monster appearing in a random place
maybe one of those faeries or goblins that Ogma is good at slaying

MasterNuke 04-26-2004 03:29 AM

Rare occurances would be the EM's job >:O

Myomoto 04-26-2004 02:11 PM

heh, that would be awesome, but we need normal weather too like rain ;O

Satrek2000 04-26-2004 02:27 PM

It's a nice idea - I remember the earthquake on classic, well, years ago. I don't know whether it would be possible, but it certainly was a nice feature - maybe when a night/day-system and a weather-system is added when the software is fit for it. If there's rain, there can be floods, if there is snow, there can be avalanches, and if there's weather in general, there can be wind and storm. Also, if there is night, there could be monsters roaming the lands during the dark hours, and if there's day, there could be the occasional eclipse that might have some special effects... The list of possible additions is long... I personally love the idea of a werewolf-disease, if a moon cycle was added ;)

Myomoto 04-26-2004 02:45 PM

becoming a were-wolf would be awesome :P

Monkeyboy_McGee 04-26-2004 04:52 PM

Heh, i really like the idea, it'd be fun. And hurting houses would be good, too, except that it wouldn't be allowed to destroy houses, and someone would have to put a warning on the forums that there'd been a disaster. Otherwise the disaster could bring a house down to 5, and the guy might not check his house (because he was unaware of the disaster) and so it falls down :(

Also, what happened to sylvesters? We moved to a new island (supposedly @ whoever designed main ;) ), not a new planet. As far as i can figure out, there are still two suns orbitting the graalian world? o_O

Satrek2000 04-26-2004 07:42 PM

Two suns? Why would that be? Apart from the fact that whatever stelar bodies there may be near the Archipelagos, they are on a rather geostationary orbit ;)

Dehitay 04-26-2004 08:02 PM

When one sun sets, the other rises
Constant day and constant hell for the vampire race

Dach 04-26-2004 09:26 PM

Meh, it's only a cool idea when you aren't doing anything and one occurs. If you are in the middle of something important, and a tornado runs across your level or an earthquake hits, it sucks. Granted you can have it affect the monsters so they are also affected, thus releving some of the problematic situations, but not all of them. Overall, it'd be fine if there is some kind of forewarning like a storm, tornadoes and floods don't appear out of nowhere. Earthquakes do, but they don't last very long. Point being, do it right if it is done at all.

See, the story on 2k1 was that when the bomy moon came, and crashed into the graalian earth, it brought its own sun with it or some crap like that. So now we have our own sun, and the bomy moon's sun orbiting earth, or some crap like that.

Limelight Panda 04-27-2004 02:18 AM

Eclipses would be cool, may when one would happen, there could be a event to make a new item? Or add a weird effect to a item? It would be cool if we could see the moon, and if there was more to the island. LIke maybe we could get a mini boat (like in windwaker) and go through waters, to other islands? Archipelagos would be fun.. and about kingdom islands (off topic) Shouldn't some be changed to something logical? If zormite was zorbis at one point, why not make their land, like a archipelago? With different lands on every little island, then pirates, live on a big ship, which can move to other places, forest....is a forest..... kj is its own archipelagoalso?

busyrobot 04-27-2004 04:35 AM

I love the natural disaster idea XD And what are the high seas without squals? What is bomboria with out the odd invasion of rabbits by the hundreds?

Edwin, I think you were there under King Larrien's reign of Dustari, when the horrible outbreak of fever swept like wildfire across from Tanarthia to Bomboria, rumor has it it started from someone casting flu or such on a mushroom and it spreading. Everyone playing GK just about was lower level, (Our king was lvl 5 and no one gave him any flack) and people avoided the towns as people were truly dieing of the illness.

Plague, Famine, Natural Distasters, good times :)

Maybe it's just me, but I do believe these official stories are, well, worth enhancing, very kindly speaking... As for 2 suns with the one setting while the other is rising, is it me or is that very astro-illogical?

Myomoto 04-27-2004 02:53 PM

It would be cool if illneses such as cold and flu would spread from one player to another so an epedemic(sp?) could start... hmm.. we need a spell of "the black death"

Monkeyboy_McGee 04-27-2004 04:26 PM

Bile has similar diseases, i think, although some of them aren't very effective or some don't work, or something. Ogma also has a disease i think (?) which slows you right down, although thats a bit lame because bile is meant to be the disease man. I bloody hate ogma, he has everything - poison (which slows and damages and affects defence), relics, diseases, low bless levels, and a really good avatar. It's silly =/

also...you guys are addicted to the word "archipelagos" aren't you XD

Satrek2000 04-27-2004 05:05 PM

That would be rabbies, which is effective as well as very virulent. Also, Bile has some nice atributes, too. Even Brigid has her advantages.

As for Archipelagos, the islands are just that in my personal view of GK, with settlers from far-away lands and such, but it's, as I said, just my interpretation.

Crono 04-27-2004 05:35 PM

Ohnoes teh bumb shlters plx cuz teh soviez r nukun us u c. Kk?

In other words, good luck surviving.

Ehm.. Ogma is the poison god, Bile is the death/undead's god ;O you get turned into an undead when you start worshipping him, that's why your resist turn undead falls and you won't have to eat so much.
And the poison on Ogma's cause wounds and weapon blessings slows you down because it drains str and dex ;O (but it drains your wis, int and con too) pretty powerfull stuff, it basicly messes up your AC, WC, max HP, your HP regen gets slower because of the damage you take, and you get slower too

GoZelda 04-27-2004 08:28 PM

I like the idea, it has been suggested before (just like LimelightPanda's several more non-kingdom islands idea), but as Chad said, do it good or don't do it.

Yeah, it's crazy.
And, well, poisoning's different to diseases. Poisoning's like *"k, i'll just slip some thallium into Myomoto's tea every day for a few weeks until his hair falls out and he eventually dies :)"*, and disease is like "OMFG THAT RAT BIT ME AND NOW MY SKIN'S BLACK AND SLIMY AND IM ...*dies*". I always imagined Bile as a disease man, not sure why really. He's got disease spells, and he's the "Harbringer of Death" so i just imagine him always being surrounded by a cloud of disease. Cloud of disease, practically death in a can XD

Myomoto 04-28-2004 12:46 PM

hmm... seeing i have started to loose hair i'm gonna stop drinking tea o.O

This is avery bad idea. Nothing in this world is reliable enough to do this. I remember when my computer crashed and i had to leave it in the repair shop for a little while, my houses fell down. Things are bad enough as it is without natural distasters destroying everything you have ever worked for. :\ People invest too much in their houses to have them crushed under tornado's, everyone would just quit when everything they had was deleted and not only lose stefan money but would wreck the game.

I do like the ideas of natural distasters though, as long as they don't have an effect one houses. It would also be cool if a tornado out at sea could catch a boat and spin it in circles, or a hurricane could pick it up and drop it somewhere random.

I also think we could use a few more non-kingdom islands, but it would take a lot of time and work. I don't think there is anyone willing to put that much into it. :\

"Bob struggled against the gale, trying to gather up all his livestock before the storm arrived. He was just pushing the final cow into its shed, when all of a sudden, the shed was destroyed along with the cows inside. Bob poked the destroyer of his shed, as it stood there dripping. A rather bewildered sailor peeked his head out from over the side, and then fainted. Bob fainted too."

Poor cow...

Satrek2000 04-29-2004 08:28 PM

How about this - the house's appeareance would be affected, not it's constitution. So a storm would like rip away parts of thr thatching, or demolish a window. The next time the house is repaired, that would get fixed. Not really logical, but after all, we're talking graal here ;)

Kaiser2 05-08-2004 02:40 AM

I find it funny how I'm checking the suggestions forums right now and it seems like every suggestion I've had in the past has come to life. My idea for natural disasters was originally intended for G2k1, but it'd be cool on GK as well. And day/night/weather effects have been something I've been suggesting for a really long time. And, in case anyone is wondering, there actually IS a bubonic plague spell. "Cause Black Death". Bile teaches it.

zs0 05-10-2004 04:10 AM

My house is right next to water x_x no go for meh pls.

Can it spred to p-moders too? :O

Kaiser2 05-11-2004 11:40 PM

Well, you can infect them, but they can't take damage from it.
