Swear filter on boats/pets
 

I'm starting to get annoyed by those ships called "Screw your mama!" and whatever same goes with pets (just look at the daily screenshot today :rolleyes: ) I think some filter should be added or something else... Nothing really ruins the RP more than walking at the beach and then see the ship "SUCK MY ****" sail by ._.

Well look buddy, you're either going to see a profanity, or you're going to see a whole bunch of ******************s. Makes no difference to me, when i see stars, i know it's a swearword hiding under there, so there isn't any point in the filters anyway. People who get offended by swearwords should try living in the real world, and get a brain.

I guess we should add logs for that and temp ban people who use such words for pets or ships. Might also need to add a script command for using the swear filter.

How about simply restricting the standard swear words from being used on pets and ships at all, and have a log monitor the rest just in case?

Instead of replacing the word with *'s it should just disallow the naming altogether, and give you a message with something like, "That's not very nice" or something like that..>.>;

I think When they say something inappropiate, it should change their name to "I am a newb" and name the ship/pet "property of newb". That would change it real fast. :D

People should still be able to swear though ;O It's just the boat names and pet names that bothers me.

"Newb" itself is generally meant as an insult, and not a really good way to counter insults being used. I think a message "Your pet shakes his head" or "You cannot inscribe that on the plank" would suffice.

Getting your name sat to "Newb" would be stupid... it should just disallow you to add the name if it contains any swear words ;O

Either way, I don't see it as an insult, I see it as meaning you are too new to know what you are doing, in which case, we have all been a newb at one point. I know I used to be a newb.

If you put some kind of filter on it, they will find a way around it like they always do. There are several hundrend symbols that look like letters which you can used in a foul word to make it once again obvious and annoying, but to make someone insult theirself and feel stupid wouldn't change that either way. I just figured I would post it for humor and see what other people said about it. :p

if it dissalows you to say anything with that kind of word then peaple will just use $ for S or write it in L33T, they will always find ways, i think there shoudl be some kind of counter (only for naming ships and pets not genral talk) that if you try to say something with unauthorised words a certain number of times, for example 3 or 5, and you go over that number you get banned for 24 hours

or you could also ask the EMs to monitor the mass messages, or get special staff/players to do it

Yea right man, the EMs hardly even throw events, like they need more jobs. Plus they don't accept new Event Masters either, I already tried that. :\

Considering that the event coins are very rare and also aren't hardly worth anything, i think they should take more time to make those as common as they should be before they have anything else to worry about. And as far as staff, there are very few and they are hardly ever on, plus this wasn't about foul language in mass messages, it's about pets/boats, which they will not be able to watch for from different islands or anytime they are not looking at the map. Even if they seen a ship named something inappropriate on the map they could never tell who named it anyway.

Event items are meant to be rare, at least not common as such. As for checking masses, I don't know whether there are logs for them somewhere, but they'd be a bugger to seek through and spot the occasional "bad word" - specially if leet coded. besides, EMs usually don't have access to logs and/or server files. As for events, we're trying to fix that, yet we don't want to rush it - take that however you want. Besides, all we said is that we're not accepting applications. It's a different thing if you think about it.

I think stefan had the right idea, a swear filter, which while would miss lots of \/\/ords, the logs would match 'so and so named ship such at such at timestamp' would make a temp ban easy, and if someone saw a ship misnamed it would be really really easy to know who did what. Much easier than using logs to prove just about anything else (scamming, harassment, etc)

we wouldn't see lots of \/\/ords because people wouldn't want to get temp banned.
As for ****'s - people may use em, but the primary goal would still be achieved.

well:
1) about EMs, im tired to just have raffle, or sometimes waterglass, or even rarer: the labyrinth, but when you try and apply to become EM they dotn take applications so unless ur friends with them its impossible to become EM
2) EMs can monitor masses, not every single one, but for example when someone starts arguing with someone else, and then everybody kicks in, then ti should be monitored cause usually words like bi**h arentblocked neather is sh*t, etc.
