Preloading npc's?

Newbie question i guess :)

Basically i have a gmap however some npc's are based around where 4 maps connect at thier corners, So being in the bottom left hand corner of the screen means the npc's on thatmap load up but not on any of theother maps until you walk into them.
So question is this, can u preload npc's in maps the user isn't in, if so how? (i posted this here as i am not sure whether its scripting or level design really)

Thx

Oh, I didn't catch what you meant at first, hehe.
You'll need to redesign the setup of your gmaps if you want smooth linking. Just don't connect gmaps like that and you should be fine (for what you have, put it all in one gmap maybe).

i think i may have put my point accross incorrectly :) , i only have 1 gmap, but its the maps or levels or watever u wanna call em :) INSIDE that gmap thats are causing the problems. the npc's only load for the level you are standing in, but as its a gmap and you can see the other levels around you they all look lifeless because the npc's don't load until u cross the invisible line into the next level, so u can image 2 levels, a & b, and 2 guys throwing a ball at each other, 1 guy in a, the other in level b, i enter level a and i can only see 1 guy, yet i can see where the 2nd guy should be but he doesn't appear until i walk into level b. If that makes sense :) I was just wondering if i can load level b at some point whilst still in level a and vice versa.

Thx :)

Same here, but It's not about loading. I just want to know why it's doing this..

Oh, you must not have done the gmap correctly, or are confusing it with a regular map. I'll attach Loriel's cool little tutorial to explain everything, since it does that pretty well and I don't feel like doing it since I don't know it all off the top of my head.

Still no joy on this one guys, i read the txt above, but i still can't seem to sort it

Just to clarifiy yet again wat i mean :) to make sure i explained it right is a little piccy

http://mysite.freeserve.com/tstore/npchitch.jpg

At the red 'X' the ghost would not appear (works fine in offline mode btw) in order to make the ghost appear i would have to cross the yellow line above the 'X' that the arrow points to. Again this all works fine in offline mode, e.g. the ghost is visible without having to cross the yellow line.

Ill attach the gmap file i am using too if anyone wants to look at it :)

thx.

- Have you called loadmap (mapname) in one of the client's weapons?

- Does the map exist in your gmaps= serveroption?

Callant 04-12-2004 06:49 AM

yeah the gmap is specified in the server option and it's called in the control npc with if(actionplayeronline) , the gmap works, u can walk around as if its 1 huuuuge map, but the only npc's that load are the ones in the level u are standing in e.g. levela03.nw. But seeing as all works offline u think this is a serverside config problem?

thx for any help :)

Lance 04-12-2004 11:16 AM

Paste the gmaps= serveroption's line, please.

Also, I'll note that it's been said to put the loadmap command_in_client_weapon_, not in actionplayeronline. Move the loadmap mapname command to some kind of hidden/system weapon that the player cannot see.

WanDaMan 04-12-2004 11:42 AM

I forgot to add the folder config.. thanks chad ;)

Uiaad_dice_mage 04-13-2004 12:56 AM

Alexander 04-13-2004 03:31 PM

I believe the question is if she can load npcs in other levels before she enters them o.O?

Uiaad_dice_mage 04-13-2004 06:22 PM

LOL... then some more serious stuff

firstly Alexander .... the "she" is infact a he, that i used to go to college a few years ago. And on a more serious note i would just like to say i just thought we could kill two birds with one stone rather that having to open up a whole nother thread and screw about with things that way

get back on topic, stop wondering off..

Why have GMAPS? i mean what's the difference from actually original maps?

Uiaad_dice_mage 04-13-2004 08:58 PM

Gmaps is the file that tell graal how the levels are linked together so that they for one whole world rather than just indervidual levels which is rather redundent on graal servers these days
