Server Options Wipe
 

Alright so my staff and I are on rc and one of us checked the server options. The letters EST are there now and nothing else. Yet people still log on, see their maps etc. Houdini believes its still there but we cannot see it. What do I do about this problem? Please help!

So one of your staff with server options rights deleted them. Restore them, they are on the forum somewhere.

No you see, they are not deleted. Otherwise people would not see maps, have ap, be able to log on etc.

Also the logs show nothing of the sort.

They can still log on and see maps without the server options.

Did somebody try to send an admin message with line breaks? Thats what it looks like. Sending admin messages with line breaks will somehow manage to overwrite the server options. :megaeek:

Thats for telling the world on how to whipe out the server options.

Anyway, you can still do all that without the server options for some odd reason... Well, it is graal! Anything is possible.

Basically they are gone, but are there.

The only solution is to retype them, it only took me 15 minutes. All is well.

Stefan once told me something like serveroptions are stored in the server cache or temp something or other so its not always reading it from there. It only takes full change effect after the server is restarted.

Anything with newlines, and the first char in a new line being a T, will reset the server options :p

Yup, seems so Loriel.

But as for the cache, no idea. I typed our back relatively quickly, the only annoying part was the profilevars since we have a few of em now.

Well he said that to me, reason why servers need to be restarted to read classic accounts when being moved to the classic section, as they only read them when being restarted. Could be limited to just hidden SOs, however im sure the case occured with staff= and he said that too.

The reason everything worked fine is because when serveroptions are deleted they still exist.

For example:
if you had "staff=Riot" in server options, deleted the staff= string entirely I would still beable to log on.

Now if you changed it to "staff=" no one would beable to log on.

I ran into this when someone tried to kick corroupties off a server who were deleting everything. ;)
