Why?

On a server I've been working on that I'm not going to talk about here, the staff and I have decided to have anyone who logs on reset by the npcserver which disconnects them. What I want to know it
WHY the hell do you all feel the NEED to log onto a _PRIVATE_ SERVER. And after you find the funny little reset message, why the hell do you feel the need to do stuff like this
Quote:

(npcserver) prob: attributes of GTXOO don't exist
(npcserver) prob: attributes of GTXOO don't exist
(npcserver) prob: attributes of GTXOO don't exist
(npcserver) prob: attributes of GTXOO don't exist
(npcserver) prob: attributes of GTXOO don't exist
(npcserver) prob: attributes of GTXOO don't exist
(npcserver) prob: attributes of GTXOO don't exist
You people are far too nosy ._.

note to self: suggest a closedfornonstaff=true/false serveroption that prevents people from even connecting onto the server enough to be registered by npcs, so if you try to log on you get an error message sayin the server is closed

thesaiyan 03-06-2004 08:13 AM

Yea people are very nosy, but if you do not want to have RC spammed to death why not take that out? Its pretty useless if you ask me. I mean the playerlist button isn't that hard to click to see who is online.

Myukoi 03-06-2004 08:59 AM

The name of the server is very insteresting probally, if it's what i'm thinking, so yeah people wanna see.

-Ramirez- 03-06-2004 10:13 AM

Why not serverwarp them somewhere else rather than reset their attributes? That would never produce any output in RC.

Deek2 03-06-2004 10:17 AM

*shrug* If it's technically defined as a private server, and it's hidden, and it gives obvious hints that it doesn't want people on it (as being hidden, being on a desginated list, etc.), then it's obvious that there is no good reason to be on it as it is under construction and it has nothing to provide for you. I don't mean that you shouldn't go on it. If you guys don't want people logging on, then what's the purpose of allowing people to have available access to the servers, anyways (unless they're developers)?

WanDaMan 03-06-2004 11:13 AM

Smeh, who-cares?
Just make it d/c them or something, or ban is better but save it to a log.. :p

serverwarp is a clientside command and thus less reliable than doing something serverside.

googleman 03-06-2004 12:27 PM

Hmm, I remember a server like that. I reconnected several times too. Maybe about 8-9 times until I figured out that the server was disconnecting me. (not my account)

dorfindel 03-06-2004 04:19 PM

People like to log onto private PWs to check out the content. I check out all of em frequently.

R0bin 03-06-2004 04:22 PM

i vote for closedfornonstaff serveroption.

osrs 03-06-2004 04:26 PM

i vote for banning. :)

Mykel 03-06-2004 04:42 PM

Hehe, I saw what server it was. I kept logging on, because I saw your name and another popular person's name. XD

WanDaMan 03-06-2004 05:03 PM

PM me it :p

Same here...

R0bin 03-06-2004 06:22 PM

Perhaps you could request for unixmad/stefan to have it not appear in the server list, and give your account special access?

Crono 03-06-2004 07:17 PM

Name was interesting and since I read this post, I just tryed to log on a couple of times. The server better live up to it's name. ;)

They want special access, everyone wants special access.

Do you think 99% of players have ways of canceling out clientside code or faking triggers? lmao

Serverwarp does the job just fine.

The server option would be a nice alternative though.

Well it's not hard to do that.. :O

Milkdude99 03-06-2004 09:57 PM

Why do you feel the need to start cussing when making this Thread? For one you know the profanity rule of Graal also pertains to the Forums and you are Global Staff. I understand the frustration but you can post without the cussing and get your point accross, your not setting a very good example of Global Staff conduct by posting in this manner..:\

If you were referring to blocking clientside code or faking a trigger, please stop making yourself look like an idiot. It should be possible, yes, but you're definitely not someone who can do it.

GTXOO 03-06-2004 10:02 PM

The reason why I kept logging in was to see if the images were loading, usually it just kicks you out then you go back in and it loaded.

But then after that I wanted to see playerlist, sorry k?
:p

*sigh* Easy to say the word, another story to perform the tasks you're mentioning, especially blocking code.

So you say. Don't underestimate me.

Loriel 03-06-2004 10:35 PM

Kat, I would assume that a project that wants to remain secret does not want to risk someone with a hexeditor or trainer or whatever to come along, no matter how unlikely it is.

Moonie, I do not see why you get mad. Deal with it.

zell12 03-06-2004 10:52 PM

Well sail benny boy lol

 How is Moonie mad by expressing her feelings on it? She's not mad at all.

And IF you are talking about me ( psst I'm not Moonie it's MG) I'm not mad either just disappointed that Jagen would start a thread like this in that manner, that he feels the need to cuss about it.

I find that hard not to do when you couldn't even figure out the fact that "strtofloat" turns strings into float values.

I guess so, but given what's available, and the fact that what Jagen is currently doing annoys him that much, serverwarp would be best. Unless there's something else I'm not thinking of that could get rid of them serverside.

He's one of my favourite globals, I think he's doing a fine job at setting a good example for Globals. No one likes "hardliners".

Thought 03-06-2004 11:53 PM

You do know that, serverwarp tends to lag for a second or two right? Giving a player a chance to download content is a bad idea.

Oddly placed comma. You're right though. It does allow you to download a few extra images. Guess what you can do to fix this?! Make it so they start in a completely plain level with nothing TO download! :P

protagonist 03-07-2004 02:05 AM

Send them to an onlinestartlocal level which is composed of nothing (as in, black).

How about you just put them in a nonexistant start level, hense they will never EVER be able to get on!

R0bin 03-07-2004 03:07 AM

heh yeah, thats crashed me a few times on 3.0

Actually, the major problem with that idea is that it still lets them see some of the server's things, such as stafflist. Not much, but still :p
