New item or skill?

I was just browsing the FFonline site and a great idea was used there, Why not make a new type of spell or item to give magic users only the ability to cast a spell even if there are distractions?

And to prevent abuse of this make it available ONLY if your on Pmode, The only thing folks can complain about is you lagging them up. Otherwise it could be very useful to make folks buy the mana crystas (yes, they were added for a reason) and make alot of the magic users their own class again.

(make sure you can only get it if you start as a sorcerer! that can stop folks from getting a barb and buying legerdmain just for that.) :grrr:

It would be kinda hard to add, but if it was done right I suppose it might be useful.

I don't like this idea.

What I would like to see though is when you're hit and the opponents attacks "fail" your spell still works rather than "You were hit and lost the spell" (even though you weren't actually hit.) That's really annoying. Furthermore, when you're successfully hit during a spell players shouldn't have to wait on the time of the spell gani to stop playing then the hurt gani before being able to move :x

I don't like the idea of such a skill. I'd rather go along in a direction Stefan mentioned for the usage of skills sometimes, namely that you can get better by practice, and I believe this could be added by means of some simple modifiers, but what do I know ;). In effect, it would add a certain kind of "distractibility" to a char, and the better this character's magic training is, the lower this distractibility would be. So a heavy duty spellcaster would be really hard to distract even if he was hit. Maybe a successful hit could increase the possibility of a distraction a bit.

Legerdmain? That's just Sense curse! What a POS... :whatever:

EDIT: Wait....since the hacker I dropped all my stuff...including my talisman...

:megaeek:

OMG! IT REALLY DOES WORK!

Come to think of it... no restriction to any mode here, I'd say - if you make it pmode only it'll be useless, because you couldn't hit anyone anyway, and neither could they hit you. The problem is that spells are too fragile in the casting phase to fight properly - even to defend.

Plus, even if spells WERE balanced out, people would just start carrying around stupid leeto magic resistant rings...

... which, en contraire to fighting rings, don't add speed... Adding speed to the magic/wisdom rings in a similar fashion as to the fighting rings would do a bit to re-balance things... even though a tiny bit...

No matter how subtle the sorceror, a knife between the shoulder blades will seriously cramp his style. ;)

I say the CF-thing is fine - but it should have been addapted properly, and changes and additions thought through regarding the CF-surroundings.
