ID Number for each player
Instead of banning ips for a players client, mabey each play can have an assigned number, here is somewhat of an explaination of how it works, feel free to amend it.
On the site, the player logs in. It will take him to his account information page, and he must enter his password and stuff, and email. A number is assigned to that player and all his accounts. (I don't know any other way to id the player so he gets a number :\) When banning players, their id is banned on the server so they can't use another account to login. Seems complicated to get a id to each player, but I don't know. |
That would still not be as reliable as an IP ban... Also, I thought you couldn't have more than one account under an email address.
How 'bout we just lock anything coming in from them through what's known of their credit card info, and then ban all of their known accounts, along with their IP. That still wouldn't help with trial accounts for people w/ dynamic IPs, though.... but I bet that only being able to go on trial would piss them off enough to just quit. |
Locking out players is a challenge, no matter how you do it there are always ways around it. :\

It's better to think of an 'ID Number' as a CD-Key.

Exactly what I was thinking of Rick. Half-life uses em, as do other online software programs.

Am I missing something with this idea? It just doesn't make sense. How can the same ID be assigned to multiple accounts by email if you can only use one email address for an account? An IP ban is used to try & keep a household banned (or an ISP/region) for a limited amount of time, so the only way the user could get on would be by proxy or to go to a friend's house.
I think I see what you mean. You sign up for an "ID" with your password and email, and you create accounts under that ID. But that is still fundamentally flawed, as you could just go create another email account somewhere. An IP ban would be more effective. |
Thats why I asked if anyone else could AMEND my idea or come up with another solution.
|
Well... could send everybody CDs and start using CD keys!!
|
Once one is used it cannot be used by another person, ya?
|
Stupid idea.
I do not see how this could work. |
