demands for v3
I'm sure that this has been said a billion times, but I'll gladly contribute to saying it a billion times more if it'll make it happen.
Please make the v3 playerlist worth using. Its a real nucance not having my buddy list separate, and so I typicaly keep it off. Also, if we can't send mass messages on v3, atleast make it so we can block them too! And being able to hide the minimap and take screenshots (in linux) would be a fantastic addition (alt+number changes the desktop o.o) |
I used to think that the playerlist would be impossible to detach, but now that I'm thinking about it, I don't see why it couldn't. The only reason I can think of that it wouldn't be detachable is if Stefan plans to put in script commands to modify it with scripts on the server. Even then, having it detachable would be preferable than having servers be able to modify it at will. Of course, I probably have no clue as to why Stefan is making it stuck inside the Graal window. My guess is that it has to do with portability with Linux and Mac.
The rest of the stuff you said is more than likely going to be done, it just wasn't in the latest version. (Which nobody EVER said was the final version of 3.0 that we've been waiting for.) |
pretty sure its MUCH easier to use the torque gui editor to make an ingame playerlist than to edit the source code and make a new dialog.
|
A bit off topic but I don't care what happens to V3, as long as I can play Graal with the client we currently have.

Oh, and R0bin, why is it always about ease? You'd think he would make it best for the players rather than easier for himself. |

Stefan, stop working on v3, it seems we have found a replacement. Ramirez fancies himself as a leet master coder. |
No, I didn't say that in any way. I don't know how you could possibly have inferred that either. Weird.
What I'm saying is that with people PAYING for this game, it seems feasible that Stefan should be programming it to be more easily used by the players. Btw, I'll call you Hevaricubed from now on. :) |
Ever played -insert evil korean mmorpg here with little pink blobs-? It has its dialogs in the window.
|
Another game having it makes it easier to use, or more desirable by the players? I can't seem to make the connection.
|
Im just showing an example of a game that it works well in. Graal too is an MMORPG, and thus it would work well there too.
|
I personally don't mind it being in the window, but I've seen lots of others who really hate the idea of it being stuck inside instead. Sure, it might have worked out well if that's how Graal started... but it DIDN'T. People are used to having the playerlist outside of the window.
|
Well i suppose thats true.
I do like the old one better than v3 at the moment. Couldnt stefan just get all the cool engineness of v3, and stick it in the same gui as the old client, with the TextEdit at the bottom allways there, and the outside player list, with the old level editor, that would be better. also ingame rc sounds teh suck to me. |
If anything, its probably better under fullscreen than windowed mode. That is where they are heading, I think. I think that's a good idea. Any other game you play typically runs in fullscreen and functions much better too (newer games). I don't see it as a problem. If you're going to be on Graal talking to friends, why do you need to talk to them on AIM or -insert other messaging app-

Since Graal v3 is supposed to be so leet (i bet no one will really be too impressed), they should have layers in levels. That way you dont have to make gfx for a shorter tree or something.

I think Stefan liked the idea of ending the game area of the window at the playerlist, so that you don't have people running around under your list (makes it the same as a separate window if you think about it)
everything else should be able to be scripted (i.e. tile levels) the new scripting engine should be able to run more complicated scripts with less lag, if I'm not mistaken (this is where Jagen backs me up or smacks me down :) ) |
if the playerlist can be scripted. We could easily script an interactive gui for the playerlist that would be much better.

Get the torque engine demo from garage games and go to the gui editor... its mostly drag and drop editing

Concerning --full screen vs. windowed--, --playerlist inside window vs. playerlist outside window.-- I think that it would be good to have both full screen and windowed. I also think that it would be possible to have the playerlist inside of the window, though. The best way to make the transition easiest on the players is to add a lot of features to the playerlist.
Ex. Maybe making it so that you can disable viewing different groups, like staff, buddies, guild, normal, ignored. Possibly a feature that would make it so that you only had to view the heads on the side, and to further that feature, making it so you could assign icons to different people so you knew who was on without having to have an entire name on your screen. Another thing that should be looked at as a possibility would be the ability to dock the player list on the side of the screen so that it doesn't interfere with the playing area. |
