Devil Snowflakes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Somebody seriously needs to remove the snowflakes from the website... I can't have my Guild CP open because the stupid snowflakes lag me to death!!!!
|
they dont even work for me.
theyr just stuck in the nw corner. |
Yeah I guess they should be removed now :)
But it doesn't just snow around december, but they were put there for that. |
To be honest, annoying, animated stuff is poor useage of webmaster powers. :-/
All I can say is, it would have been nicer if the graphics on the site had been 'wintered' up with snow and such, rather than put a bunch of randomly moving snow flakes on the screen which just sap video resources. I'm not trying to blast anybody or anything of that sort, but the snowflake graphics make it difficult to use the site even with a beefy ATI AIW 9700 Pro graphics card and 1 gig of DDR 3200 RAM. Oh, and that 2.8GHZ Intel p4 w/hyperthreading as well. I dunno, to see the graal logo with snow and stuff would be cool. A buncha random snowflakes, not quite as cool. |
I'm having no troubles with the snowflakes.
They don't ruin my surfing on the graal homepage. I'm on a Ms-Starforce GeForce MX 440- 64bit - But maybe for others they have trouble. |
On this computer I have an onboard SiS 32mb gfx card, pent2 1.3GHz and 92mb of SD RAM (I'm just playing around on this one, my new one is down stairs that I use for CS ;)) and I dont lag at all on the website. So you're either lieing or your computer is junk.

I have a Pent. 2 with 333mhz and the snowflakes don't lag me :P

Well they dont give me any problems. Since this does cause problems for some players and not for others the logical solution would be to have an option to turn them off on the main site.

Hyperthreading is like, twice the speed of ddr im told. So if you lag with that get a new computer dumb dumb. Oh, pent4 sucks. Get AMD 2.3
|

And, Pentium 4's don't suck. |

DDR has to do with memory in the case of P4's. The P4's front side bus is multiplied by 4, while DDR is only multiplied by 2. I like the idea of HyperTransport buses personally. |
AMD 2.3GHz processor retard. If you want to have "speed" over quality, go buy a p4. They update their chipsets like once a month.
And I never said I was sure about what someone told me, I was asking what hyperthreading was. READ please. |

AMD 2.3GHz=Pentium 2.0GHz :D

AMD processors do not use a GHZ number, they use a Performance Ratio rating. Also, they have a name, Athlon (or Duron, K5, K6, etc.)...Just saying AMD followed by 2.3 is not enough information to really know what you are talking about. You could have been talking about the Athlon 64 FX-51 for all I know (though it's 2.2 GHZ). The only feasible upgrade (unless you have a good AMD socket 462 chipset) that I would consider from AMD would be an Athlon 64 3000+ system. The higher clocked P4s perform better than the socket 462 athlons. Quote:

Also, in general, Athlon systems are best for games (especially the AMD64), while Pentium 4s are best for multimedia work (like streaming video, etc).. |

:P I think, in the hierarchy of processors, it's like.. AMD P4 Celeron lol anyways, the flakes are too big... they block out words and stuff... maybe if they were smaller, they might not be as annoying :) |
They lag me as well. They also like to cover up things. They also distract my eyes from the actual webpage and make my eyes follow the snow flakes. Which is rather boring.

I am sure you what I am talking about when I say AMD, I know they are Athalon, but do I really want to take the time to say all that?
|
It shouldnt make that much of a difference, I have a PentiumII 700 and they work fine with me. No lag whatsoever x.x

nuh uh. ;)
if you want to know just right click on "my computer" and go to properties, it should say there. orrr... if you have the sticker on the front *points to his computer* then you shouldn't have a problem =) |
Okay, let me be specific on lag.
When I have the website, there is no lag at all besides for the graphics moving slow on the screen. The lag happens when I take the scroll bar on the right --> Click on it, move it up real fast rapidly. I read through a website very quickly, and it lags down the 'smooth' scrolling. Am I lieing about my PC specs? Absolutely not. And to think, this is the computer I built well over a year ago :D Honestly though, the snowflakes were fine in the game. You can shut them off, no problem. On the website though, they really aren't needed. I'm just glad that I don't have to mess with it on the forums. Oh, and you guys prolly don't notice the speed difference because of your slow computers  Then there's the argument about what's fastet and what's not. I was mistaken, the system has a 2.8GHz processor running on it. I have the intel motherboard with the 875p chipset. What that means is my DDR memory is running on two separate channels, each running at 400mhz. The processor is running with an 800MHz FSB. No bottleneck on data speed. The ATI AIW 9700 Pro features tv-tuner card, 128 mb of DDR memory. A very smooth graphics card (although a bit buggy, the 9800 is better, might get it later). The Athlon 64 3000+ chip is really where it's at now, but I won't go with them still. Run too hot, and I don't like the mboard support out there. I know that with my intel shiznitch, I'm good for 3 years and I won't have a hastle if anything happens. I used to run all Athlon systems. Athlon 1.333Ghz T-Bird, and also an Athlon XP 2700+ both on Asus motherboards. Both chips burned (even though they had excessive cooling with their cases) and the motherboards were flakey from the day I bought them. My system lags very little, and it's hardware that's a year old, one step down from top of the line so far. So there be nuthin wrong with my computer, it is that website :) |
Tell me how to turn them off ingame, or I swear by God I will keel you and everyone you love.
|
My computer sucks, but I can have like 15 windows open without crashing.
(kazaa, graal connected, graal offline, rc, another game, AOL or AOHELL, and like 10 browser windows.) Sometimes you need to clean out all the internet junk saved on your computer and possibly free up space by deleting unused programs that you most likely will never use again, but don't blame me if you delete the wrong thing. :p |
I keep hearing this argument about AMD chips running too hot. I've never had this problem and I don't think it's the fault of AMD. I still think it's user error related.
Motherboards are always flaky at first...That's why you wait for a few PCB revisions before you go out and buy them. |
It's not user error related.
Asus motherboards run too much voltage through the chip, creating more heat. They claim they get better performance and that's the reason why. A number of other motherboards used to do the same crap. That was the problem with buying AMD processors. They DID run hot, and the increased voltage through the chip by the motherboard manufacturers wasn't the only reason. The latest chips don't run AS hot, but they also don't run as cool as my p4. I am using stock cooling fans and hardware provided by intel, and it's running several degrees less than the professional cooling unit I was using before on my AMD system (water cooling). Check Asus' a7n8x deluxe board. Even after the revisions, the boards were crap. There's only so much you can do with CMOS revisions on a motherboard. While many will increase performance, the a7n8x for the most part got WORSE. Also, when going through their RMA system, many people reported getting back motherboards that were in POORER condition than the boards they sent back. I experienced this as well, since my replacement board had a thick layer of dust hair on it. I had to clean it before I could put my other hardware on that board. Also, there was a specific revision (nothing to do with the CMOS or BIOS, the actual components on the board itself) that didn't have the problems I was experiencing at the time. You had to pray to whatever God you cared about, however, since no one labeled it where you would buy them, and they would randomly give them out through the RMA process. I've worked with AMD and Intel systems for the past four years. I have never had a problem with an Intel system, AMD on the otherhand.... Don't get me wrong, AMD systems have their place as does Intel. It's just I don't feel like having to scour the globe finding the best motherboard for my AMD processor, then finding it was a scewed review because the reviewers were paid by the manufacturer of the motherboard. I know that an Intel board will always work with an Intel processor, and it will work well. So that puts my mind at ease, and I know I have the support behind my equipment which I didn't find when I went with Asus or AMD as my hardware choice. |
But here's the problem...you're taking an example from ONE manufacturer and applying it to all AMD platforms. The voltage problem could be averted by changing the voltage yourself (though I understand that you should not have to do this). I've certainly had none of the problems you speak of with ABIT, ECS, or Aopen boards.
I understand where you are coming from though and am sorry you've had such trouble with AMD/ASUS. I'm just pointing out that it's not that way with everyone and your gripes seem to be more with ASUS than AMD. |
Why are we even agrueing about this when all we have to do is create an option to turn the snow flakes off, on the main site and there will be no problems for anyone?
|
Yeap, well I'm going to go keel your family now.
|
DOWN WITH THE SNOWFLAKES ALREADY!!!!

Inferrior humans I had to say this 3 times... |
The snowflakes never bother me but half of the time I can't go to graal online in my browser. So I have to open up internet explorer and battle a million popups to get here.
