Crusader Helmet

I was just wondering..
Why is the Crusader Helm (one of the Christmas gifts) made to where it shows you as having no hair when you wear it? It looks truly obscene when worn by a female character, and still looks strange even when worn by males.
I know there are other helms like this as well, like the pumpkin hat.
I know that this is probably because there is no way around not showing hair, but come on... this is just rediculouse.
Any other opinioins on this, or am I the only one who thinks this?

Hats and hair use the same gani attribute, changing it would require redoing pretty much all the human ganis.

I like this swansky hat more.

With a pumpkin hat, you could say a female just stuffs her hair underneath it - that doesn't work with the quite tight-fitting crusader though, I agree.
I believe Tyhm once said he wanted to redo the system, also adding customizable execolor and such, but I guess he never found the time. Also, there's the problem that a helmet will change the way the hair falls, so new gfx would be required...
In effect, you'd have to determin which hat visibly changes the hair, then do a gfx for that, and add it to the sprites and the system... I don't know whether that would be possible at all, to use sprite x for a crusader and sprite y for the pumpkin...

There was a post of this already.

Re-making hat sprites with every style attatched would be easier than adding hair to the body image and re-doing every character gani, but don't hold your breath ;x

Crusader helmet is of metal and cloth combined, to hide the hair. It's not possible to have both hair and hat. That is mainly for optimization, each additional character attribute requires another texture in video memory, and there are already quite a lot (chest, arms, legs, head, hair, weapon, shield)

I'm working on a pair of gloves, although very very slowly due to my amazingly poor graphical skill :D

vigilant_death2 01-16-2004 04:12 AM

well yeah but i think bracers and gloves gfx would look kinda dumb just picture some more differently colored metal strapped on to our bodies... and considering 1/2 the armor dosent even have gfx its better to leave bracers that way...
unless you let us "dye" our armor...

Say there are three boots. Then you'd have to make three copies of each leg image. How does that sound?
