An idea

There are a number of "Effect spells" that can be cast on a player, such as armour, dexterity and the other basic stat improving spells, and the "Protection from ____" spells, whose effects stay for a while after the casting.
Since all of these spells have icons in the "spells" window under the food bar, I was thinking that maybe these icons could appear somewhere on the screen while their effects are continuing so you dont waste mana casting them again, and sometimes making them less effective.
Anyone think this is a good/bad/crap idea? Perhaps it could be implemented into the next Graal edition

i rarely have any problems with accidently recasting.. I just wait till it says "you feel weaker/more clumsy", then I know what I need to cast. If you have listen off though, it might be a different story :x

Sometimes when I'm in a map, those messages will get lost in the
Your icestorm hits t-rex.
Your icestorm nips wolf.
Your icestorm violently hits dievel.
Your icestorm violently hits t-rex.
You killed dievil with icestorm.
Your icestorm causes shivers in t-rex.
You feel weaker!
Your icestorm violently hits t-rex.
Your icestorm hits t-rex.
Your icestorm violently hits wolf.
Your icestorm nips t-rex.
You killed t-rex with icestorm.
Your icestorm violently hits wolf.
You killed wolf with icestorm.

Throw in "<monster> killed <player>." and "______ killed ______ (duel).", I might hit my button for /clear just as it wears off and not notice, or just not see it in the jumble of messages. Other than that, there isn't really a need for it :o.

I told stefan last year, said it wasn't nessary. X_x

This is an interesting idea.

"This is an interesting idea." - Lance <3
Maybe if these protection spells made you immune to those things. Be more observant dudes ;x These spells only raise your resistance to these things by like 20 or so..how about you check by opening your Q menu which you do very often anyway if it has worn off? >_>

Satrek2000 11-17-2003 03:34 PM

I agree with Chris - if you're in a situation where you need that buffing badly, then checking back in the inventory will be equally or less lethal than casting them again. I don't see the dire need for such icons, there are other things I'd love implemented... Forts...

--Chris-- 11-17-2003 07:11 PM

"... Forts... " - Satrek
It'd be great if they drastically weakened "earth to dust" ;x

Satrek2000 11-17-2003 09:01 PM

Yes, that, too, but I was referring to something which, at least in my frame of memory, has been mentioned to be added a while back. Forts which would work similar to those on classic, i.e. every kingdom can take them, and every kingdom has to try and defend those on their own territory.

graaliholic 11-18-2003 12:04 AM

I'd like it if create earth wall was readded... HP of the wall depending on the caster's magic level... You could build your own fort :P

Satrek2000 11-18-2003 12:38 AM

Abd abuse it to block off newbies or something, unless it is restricted in some way... what about this, each kingdom gets 3 fort-areas where they can build structures to defend a pole or something marking the center. Earth to dust has to be reduced for that though...

slay3r89 11-18-2003 02:10 AM

Perhaps when you cast these spells there is a small icon in the bottom left hand corner appears.
Then when you move your mouse over the icon it tells you what spell is in effect and maybe even how much time it has left.

Khallos_2k2 11-18-2003 09:15 PM

Yes, that was kinda the idea i was getting at.

Who is dumb enough to stand still and allow someone to cast enough of those things (accurately) to block them from walking somewhere? Who is also dumb enough to not break one and escape and who says no-one could help them out?

Depends on the system, and how it's done. There have been enough to fall victim to traps made of bullet or lightning walls, and I trust people will find a way annoy with it, unless it is properly done, protection-wise.

Khallos_2k2 11-20-2003 10:54 PM

So....That's a "No" then.

Sounds like a pretty funky idea, and i like the idea of defending the pole which kinda makes me half not want to post my own idea...but my suggestion would be to have fort flags (yeah, this has already been suggested in like a bajillion other posts, so it's a cliche; i'm just fusing it in with this create wall spell idea :D). Kingdom members with the correct rights could accept these flags, and around the flags, the spells could be cast...

I dont know how you can mix the pole-defending idea in with this, maybe a pole or flag appears that you have to defend once the fort-flag has been accepted. ^^
