plat = gold || banknotes

take the value of 1 plat

make that the value of 1 gold

make plat worth the current dif of gold/plat.

since it is a straight value shift, it should be able to be done mathmatically on player inventories and buried money, etc, or even the item now named 'plat' could be renamed 'gold' and a new item worth x more than the current plat would be the new plat, and everyone would wake up with gold instead of plat, etc.

Anyway, plat is supposed to be valueable I think, and gold the standard dollar currency, but inflation changed that.

can that be done with a search/replace sweep in the stores (to change value of items from plat to gold) and a sweep on inventory/stored items for plat to gold?

maybe it would be too much work...

But, it would mean we could stop dragging our money around in wheel barrrels. :D

If not that, maybe banknotes?
That could be traded to a storekeeper for x plat, you buy one in a bank, and sell it to a store keeper without loosing 1/2 the value.

I don't think gold and plat should be changed in value, but I like the idea of banknotes - a small piece of paper for 1000 plats, would make a lot of things easier - in any way possible.

Wouldn't really be realistic. Why not just invent a new metal/gemstone that the shopkeepers accept as currency? Of course, I don't think this will actually be implemented. Too many changes to the underlying engine.

Hm... items that are sold in certain places which, say, cost 10k, and, most important, sell for 10k? Is it possible to set prizes like that, i.e. make buy and sell price the same?

DustyPorViva 10-04-2003 02:14 AM

Maybe introduce bills?

Satrek2000 10-04-2003 04:36 PM

Hm... as long as you have a way to make players regret that they did not pay... ;)

I'm just saying make a new type of coin. Copper, silver, gold, platinum, <insert new metal here>.

Why add a coin with less value than silver? You'd have to refine the prizes, adding copper, while a new higher coin would only require it to be interpreted as an amount of plats. What about... oricalcum? :D

Dawg, I don't play GK. I guessed that there was a copper, evidently I was mistaken. The point remains.

Well, that was kinda what I was saying.

lets say you add a new coin, called graalium

you'd have, silver, gold, plat, graalium

once you have that, why not rename them...

call silver copper
call gold silver
call plat gold
call graalium plat

anything that costs plat now, will still charge to the same currency, but it will then be called gold, same goes for drops.

Well, that's me idea - I like plat, I think it should be worth more, lol.

also, regarding banknotes, playerstores sell items for fixed fees, that are not charisma or buying/selling influenced.

I am sure that the storekeepeer script could have an 'if item type == banknote' sorta thing, and use the truevalue attribute instead of the selling price.

Satrek2000 10-06-2003 01:14 PM

I would not rename any of the present coins but add one of higher value (coin, pearl, piece of paper, worm of great value, whatever) - I think renaming 3 coins and add a 4th with the name of the previous 3rd is far more trouble than simply adding a 4th. Also, unidentified alchemy items sell for s fixed prize, not depending on charme. A coin, with attributes of jewelery to go into a pouch, for unided alchemy to have a fixed prize, unidable, should work.
