Mac OS Client Sucks very badly

*topic*

wow. i can not stress how much i hate using this thing.

-the playerlist can not be moved outside of the player window and gets in the way.
-it is transparent and very hard to read the names.
-when someone pm's you they do not move up to the top of the list. pm's and mass messages just stay spread out over the playerlist. VERY ANNOYING.
- you cant change the size of the window? WTF is with that.

i sure hope this is a beta version and please please fix this stuff. dont flame me because i have a mac. Macs are superior for graphics, and that is what i do.

zs0 09-20-2003 06:42 AM

Hey! Haro! Whats up man? Yea, I agree, where the heck have you been? GET ON AIM MORE :\.. If you don't have mine <- ShinobiStravier

they are fixing it around to just look better than the regular graal, they are doing more stuff, thats just a beta :P

Qwert616 09-20-2003 06:48 AM

The playerlist not being able to be moved outside of the Graal screen is in all V3 cleints, apparently.

Hopefully it will be changed. :(

EDIT:

Oh, and welcome to the forums. ^_^

Yeah, not only that, but you can't change the font either .. there's a lot of stuff not there .. I just use the older version, even if it is a bit slower ..

Kaimetsu 09-20-2003 09:49 AM

The playerlist is gonna be entirely scripted, so you'll be able to do pretty much whatever you want with it.

Except take it outside the window.

We wouldn't dare try. Most of us use common sense, and realize Macintoshes are graphically superior. Besides, with the chance Kamuii might be lurking around the next thread, most have learned to keep such silly comments to themselves.

And welcome to the forums. :)

Major downside, in my opinion. But I'm one of those people who has their playerlist open at all times, so I doubt it would be a big hinderance, except to a few.

Why have it open at all times? What advantage does it give? Sure, it lets you know when buddies sign on, but any competent scripter could make a simple message-based notification system for that kind of thing.

busyrobot 09-20-2003 07:04 PM

I don't like the sounds of that, it would be nice if it was a secondary window that still ran graalscript to power it, but that the target of all the events was simply shifted.

Like, almost having two client windows open, but one in 'view mode' and other in 'playerlist mode' and the one in 'playerlist mode' was limited to playerlist stuff.

IMO

Anyway, still, it boils down to the fact that if you have a large window for the client and if the playerlist is inside that, shoot, you can just enlarge the main window to overlap where you stick the playerlist, and leave it there, right?

I mean, you don't actually loose screen space over it I would expect.
Pop up windows still seem needed I mean, can you not copy the text easily in the history pop up window on that version?
is it cluncky or is it as smooth as a native widget?

I leave it open for the main advantage of seeing just who is PMing me. I like to know who is trying to talk to me before I answer.

Again, there will be ways to script better systems for that. A little translucent onscreen list of people who've sent PMs, for example.

Unless Stefan has recently added the ability to change the area that the levels and player are drawn on within the Graal window, yes, you DO "lose space" by having the playerlist open. If what I just mentioned is possible, that would be a great addition, for some of us at least.

CheeToS2 09-21-2003 08:05 AM

v3 runs at 800x600 by default (bigger resolution than 2.x), but its still really annoying to have the playerlist in the window x.x

Kaimetsu 09-21-2003 08:13 AM

I imagine that most of us here have played other MMORPGs at some point. Did you all have seizures when you noticed that there weren't any playerlists?

No, because there are other features that alleviate the need for one. The difference is that Graal can have those same features and an optional playerlist.

Sorry for this being off-topic kaimetsu, however is it true a new scripting system is being made, or is going to be released soon because Its still in beta-testing, or so? You could make popup boxes, stuff like a playerlist, etc.

I suppose. But that would require a whole new script, for something that has already been done. I don't see why the it wasn't left as it is, but with the option of not using it as it comes.

It's not like there aren't any scripters in the world :-p

Of course, and I don't mean to denounce them in any way. :)
I'm just saying it's potentially asking to do something completely unnecessary just to have it the way it currently is.
In the same sort of comparison, though not really proper, it's sort of like asking a playerworld's staff to remake the server, when they already have it done.

There are good reasons, believe me.

Besides, the new system provides amazing flexibility that allows us to create superior alternatives. You'll forget all about the playerlist soon enough.

Let's hope then, shall we? :)

The playerlist will likely not be made moveable outside the Graal 3.x window, why? Because all windows in Graal are now rendered in-game. This is done for platform independance support.

Kaimetsu is completely right when it comes to the playerlist, there are better ways to put together a playerlist compared to what Graal 2.x has now. And now that the GUI components can be scripted, it'll be even further customized.

It's as if it was built for a earlier version of mac and it uses the same GUI as the Windows version. =(

At first I thought that having an in-window playerlist was a bad thing... because I always had my list open.
But now I do that less and less, so I guess I give in.

I'm sure we can sacrifice a little space for some more customizing?
