3d terrain lag

Why does my 3D terrain lag online? It doesnt lag offline. I don't get it :( I never lagged on GK or Archaic or anything, plus other people get the lag too. (with the exception of Wanda Man)

So what do I do? :(

Define lag?
Your character slows down, because it is going up or down in depth (height [Z] ) so it slows and speeds up.

Also because you have alot of object NPCs on the gmap, as your terrain is normally the tileset, and you need images and more tilesets for insides and to do inside levels.

So is is actually lag, or just slow down and speed up of the player?

It's extreme and unbearable lag, the kind that makes you walk 0.01 MPH

The lag happens for everyone, im not sure how fast everyone's computer is.

All I know is, its a new map, no NPCs on it at all... It's just simply terrain.

I guess you could compare the gmap file to that of GK.

When my computer was working I rarely had problems of it lagging on terrain and I use a huge gmap. But then again, I have a nice, non-manufactured PC :]

Try 2048 levels :p That is the size of my main overworld. That does not include the smaller overworld areas that are on thier own gmaps.

=o wow...my comp is custom made by me 2 ghz i just made it but the lag still is there....I think it is we need more bandwith like I was told...

The problem could be a plethera of possibilities, but I suggest checking for this....

1) G-MAP is in server options [gmaps= comma seperated w/o the .gmap extention added]
2) there are absolutely no npcs in the level with 'loadmap' command in them [in online mode you're supposed to warp directly to the gmap itself rather than the levels {example: level = gmap.gmap x=100 y=100}]

3) in the folder opts gmap files are set with both level and file

If lag persists after that then it most likely would be some stefan error or computer error [either server or your compy]

loadmap in any of the levels doesnt make any difference. I've used gmaps online with the loadmap command in levels before it makes absolutly no difference its the equivelant of having setmap in every single level online.

Typically, gmaps will fail to load online if those conditions aren't met.

zokemon 09-30-2003 04:26 AM

no those 3 things are fine for us we just need bandiwth i think =X. But maybe u r right...maybe it is an error with the server or stefan's computers or something...we are PW 3 and there was that thing where all PWs under 50 got moved to another computer or something...maybe we never got fixed for that? (yes we were removed from rc list though for that time like everyone else)
