Idea!

This method and idea has not been made in Graal ever! My idea is make a horror server, kinda like Resident Evil type, where u can help other players when they're stuck on rooms, or something. And you can only save your position by picking up the nearest phone, so players can't log off unorganizely. You can only carry alittle items, so "trying to get all the guns and feeling un-newbie" feeling won't appear. Also, the characters should be bigger than the normal Graal characters, because that way won't allow you to view half of the level. Hmmm, maybe very detailed disguisting monster graphics? I dunno just what I thought...

Myomoto 08-22-2003 01:03 PM

Graal is a childs game -.-'

Nobody would make it good enough. And if they did it would only work for fast connections as it would be graphical.

Nobody would do that for Graal, period. If they did that they could make their own p2p mmporg. X_X

HoudiniMan 08-22-2003 03:08 PM

It's almost like Graal is simply a platform for some people now...
You can't make it into a first person shooter! :(

The graal3D engine would make it possible I belive. I think Stefan said something like that. Or it was something else as we were talking about a different game at the same time as the 3D engine too.

duzzel 08-22-2003 05:16 PM

:( i wish somebody would make one

Actually, I recall Kaimetsu making a 3D Space script type thing, which he posted on the AllGraal Inc forums (RIP). Adding collision detection and gravity would make it easy to make a first person shooter.

And that reason.

GoZelda 08-23-2003 11:51 AM

If you'd want that, you would need an Engine as powerful as Gamecube or N64. Ofcourse, a computer can handle that, but it might lag, especially when you're gonna make a multi-player game outta it. If you don't want that, well, just use skeleton.png and the skeleton hat :D

GBA has FPS :P

GoZelda 08-23-2003 07:35 PM

Sure, but i don't think it has enough memorie/power to have "detailed disgusting monster graphics".

Probably means there will be gani's such as monsters exploding, heads falling off, etc. I don't see how it would have nearly as many npc's as Kingdoms or Graal 2001

I was not saying it was impossible, more like... unethical.
You'd be butchering the Graal style.

Spark - I believe Graal3D was put on hold until futher notice, but it may have just been a rumor

Ah, sorry for misinterrepting (bad spelling; I know...) what you had said. I don't think Graal really has it's own style right now, because it's work is all player made stuff, so it's quite diverse.

G_yoshi 08-24-2003 03:43 AM

::yawns::

Sounds boring. As someone already mentioned, no body within Graal's community would be capable of pulling off the graphical aspects of it. Even if someone did it wouldn't lag. Don't know where some of you people go this notion it would lag

Graal itself is rather versatile in what can be done nowadays. Kaimetsu has made that more than apparent.

But every server is similar in the fact it's still based on a top-down view of a character controlled in 8 directions.

8 directions? Please show me the other 4 that are used on every server.

HoudiniMan 08-24-2003 04:50 AM

Combinations of the 4 basic ones, you do move in the direction but most people don't think that you're actually going in two directions in tiny increments... I just wanted to avoid arguements :|

Googi 08-24-2003 07:10 AM

And Graal isn't in 3D yet.

There are 8 directions, there just aren't 8 animations for the directions. If it was 4 directional, you wouldn't be able to move diagonally by holding two arrow keys at once. You'd have to go like "up, left, up, left, up, left, etc", instead of just "up+left"

HoudiniMan 08-26-2003 02:03 AM

I think the way the engine moves you is step by step very quickly up and left or whichever direction you're going... He was being too literal about it though

Many servers have scripted movement now. In either case, the movement could arguably sometimes be described as a system of little steps, but on an external level it's effectively only one. There's only one update event.

XJOKERX 08-26-2003 03:24 AM

Hey duzzel wanna get high? Wait you already are x.x

Anyway

Good idea but only the best of the best would be able to do it (hint hint)

teh dream team:

Koni
Gyoshi
Kaimetsu
Madwolf
A ton of other peeps

Kaimetsu 08-26-2003 03:31 AM

It doesn't really seem so complicated to me. All-new graphics might take a little work, but it's not like Graal doesn't have talented artists.

In response to Joker's list: I don't think I could work with either Konidias or GYoshi, and I doubt they could work with me. We're all too creatively independent, I think.

Yeah there was a thread discussing this once and you guys pretty much decided that. :p

The heck? Kaimetsu just complimented somebody, although nobody too specific.

I don't see what would be so hard making a server like this either. Sure, it might make more sense to just make it your own game, if you get a good enough programmer, judging by the amount of effort probably required to fulfill this goal. I think it could be done, and not with much of a challenge either. It would just be a change in bodies, tileset, and some images (every server uses image npc's).

A lot of those that are talented need some serious motivation then ;)

And I don't think I'm that hard to work with. I know I can be stubborn on something but I sometimes will make compromises if necessary :)
