Graalympians!!

Hmm... I was wondering who are the different representers for the graalympics for each server. It seems as if nobody has even been holding prelims when I go server hopping and asking so I thought I would try here and ask you people.

Spar?
Endurance?
Strength?
Trivia?
Speed?

You worry too much ;) All the best Graal people (in quality of character and such) haven't done the old stuff in too long anyways because they've been away from old-styled servers. They all either play GK, work on their own server projects, are very busy in life, are very busy with Graal development things, or quit Graal all together. So really it's just an olympics for UN players...The other free servers don't have the classic feel (Valikorlia, Era...), so those players have been away from that too long also.

Graalympians

Yeh....Most of the best people are already chosen cuz most of the servers have a Big Spar Tourney every once ina while and they do it in tag teams to.

As moonie said, "I beg to differ." She is right. I play Era mostly but that doesn't leave me out of it. I can still beat down lots of people in events and sparring. UN is nothing but a lag fest server, so how could anyone from there think they are good? haha:rolleyes:

You need not beg, only do.

Perhaps I should have made a general statement as my intention was to project such an idea, rather than to be taken literally. As I see it, the top playerworlds are Unholy Nation, Valikorlia, and Era. Each have a different feeling to them (which greatly benefits the Graal player without a gold subscription...especially those who spend all day playing Graal, as to have the feeling of playing 3 different games); they're all different "genres",if you will, of playerworlds.

Then there's less popular playerworlds and some of those have the classic feel to them like UN. The first on that list would probably be Delteria.

Your post to me was basically saying that UN might as well be the only classic server entering because the rest of us are crap, I realize UN is on top as far as players, but dont bash the rest of us, all we can do is try, and have fun doing it...if we dont win, so what...it will be fun anyway

I'm sorry to see you took my comment to be an insult.

I'd quite like to compete, but:

A) I don't have much of a 'home' server.
B) I haven't seen any news of selection processes for any of the participating playerworlds.

NeoJenova 08-03-2003 05:53 AM

Maybe I am left in the dark on this whole event but it seems rather unorganized, or maybe I am just not noticing all thats going on did I miss something cause it doesn't seem like many playerworlds will be participating.

It IS kinda sad that, after giving all the PWs a full month to get their acts together, only 4 decided they'd ultimately bother showing up...
UN, Adventure, NPulse and Atlantis, for those of you keeping score...
Babylon, despite their huge upsurge in interest, didn't bother showing up, nor did Gaia...Era even got me to add ranged weapons to the spar and balance things accordingly, only to bail...ditto Bravo...Lots of interest from PWs that don't exist yet...G2K1 wanted to be back on the list, but didn't even bother sending me the ganis...G2K2's even an official server, with their ganis all set up and everything, and THEY didn't send me the list of reps either...
Hopefully, next year it will be taken more seriously. I'd rather not say PARTICIPATE OR DIE, but I'm starting to doubt anything else would get a reaction...a big part of the problem was the news: I was advised to post it on Graal.net, the Graal Main Forum, and the Classic/PW Forums, none of which are official or well-travelled news outlets. If I had access to post it as Kingdoms News, then maybe people would have taken notice...if GraalOnline posted Global News regularly instead of just Our Favorite PW's News, ditto, but this was deemed barely worthy of a sticky, so the first annual Graalympics games, an epic event spanning all servers, finds itself with humble beginnings...a manic scripter who doesn't know the language, a tiler who refuses to tile or do anything on the schedule, and a rusty scripter who mastered the language once but promptly forgot it, assembling a world in a week, then tweaking it over a month only for nobody to really care when it's released.

Well, I got Unixmad's autograph, that's something.

Perhaps have a global news message pop up when you load the server list in the client that gives the latest info about the GraalOnline world.

Darlene159 08-05-2003 12:26 AM

err, sending emails to the participants the day before the events start with the times didnt help...there should have been more of an advanced notice as far as what time to be there

Tyhm 08-05-2003 01:02 AM

Yeah. Unfortunately, there isn't a lot of leeway with the given schedule: Qualifiers end on Friday, people were trying to give me last minute submissions AS the first event was starting!, so I had a weekend to figure out the times.
Then I get on, there are only 4 worlds participating, and of those only 2 of the primaries even bothered showing up ahead of time. 1 didn't show up at all.

Next year I guess there'll be a good global notice a month in advance, then the week of qualifiers, then a week between qualifiers and the main event. Or we'll just stick to the same time - the listed start time remains valid, noon PST/3PM EST/8PM GMT, and everyone who can't make it shouldn't have entered.

The infrastructure was admittedly godawful...I'm apparently sharing a server with a few other PWs, I didn't get to test anything ahead of time, everything I want serverside is clientside, everything I want clientside is serverside, and version 3 has a bug with setstring.

Ouch, you've been pretty much doomed from the start. :( Well I give you mega effort points for trying your best to deliver. All the whiners just need to cope as you'd say...:p

Did you see my above suggestion? I think it would be a great idea to inform players that don't browse forums, etc.

oh yeah, read PM. :)
