Is it me or Graal 2001 is lagging real bad?

?

Chrismas 06-12-2001 11:26 PM

Yes farming is impossible to do with over 50 people on, when there are it takes 2+ hours which is just down right annoying, and now its practically impossible to farm cuz the number never goes down

Admins 06-12-2001 11:27 PM

What do you mean?
I voted for the last one,
I don't see any lag,
when I lay railroad tracks its laying
in less than half second

Fai 06-12-2001 11:27 PM

Not so much lag. But the NPC server lags bad. Like I catch a fish, then 10 seconds later the message pops up "YOU CAUGHT A 3 POUND FISH". And it's annoying with signs. I touch one, then 10 seconds later it pops up on me when i am 90385 levels away from it.

Admins 06-12-2001 11:30 PM

Hmmmm I have seen it one or two times last night
that it lagged, but it as probably a network problem,
after a few minutes it was ok again

FatherDante 06-12-2001 11:31 PM

Same as me as with Stefan, and I'm 1/3 of a planet's circumference away. Same throughput as usual on my end.

Spunky2000ca 06-12-2001 11:33 PM

hmmmm
well id check, but no graal at school
:D
anyway, I think it lags when get fish, touch signs etc, cause It has to figure out what poundage u got etc. And case its random, not fixed.
And the signs? well they are loaded with the server i think, so they would take longer to load if the server is lagged. But ive alsways touched it and it appears 2 seconds later. Its cause its loaded with the NPC server Iknow that cause the non P2P servers, or any others that dont have a server NPC, they load right away. That goes for opening doors as well

Admins 06-12-2001 11:42 PM

Signs are server-side because they can
contain variables and such stuff. Also the
translations only work when they npcserver
is sending you the stuff.
The doors are made server-side so that
all people sees it when the door opens
Don't know if that is good but it adds some
realism

Admins 06-12-2001 11:42 PM

And in real life you often need some
time to open a door

Fai 06-12-2001 11:44 PM

I never pay attention to doors. I'm just as happy with non opening ones cause.. you only see them open for like a second when you go in a house.

Spunky2000ca 06-12-2001 11:44 PM

I know
thats what i mean
It does that so everyone sees it

Cause in real life, u dont touch the door and then it disappears. :D

THAT IS WHERE YOU ARE WRONG DOOD

FatherDante 06-12-2001 11:50 PM

Actually, I just tested a few signs and doors and they went faster than usual- only a half second!

Stefan When I log on I didnt see any NPC or tracks I tried changing my head It changed my head when I logged off and back on Its really laggy for me...... dont know why

Huggles 06-13-2001 12:12 AM

WHat Im implying its real laggy today for me not all the time so dont worry =-)

Admins 06-13-2001 12:21 AM

It can also be a problem on your side,
since you are not directly connected with your
computer to the graal server there are some
computers between you and the server,
so both sides need a good connection to
the internet to make it fast.

The graalonline
computers should be quite fast, from
europe I get a ping of 150 ms. When you
calculate that for opening a door your position
needs to be sent to the gserver, then the
gserver sends it to the npcserver, the npcserver
sends it to the gserver, then back to the player,
then a half seconds should be normal

Kaimetsu 06-13-2001 12:24 AM

I thought the NPC server was just a program running on the same computer?

KJS 06-13-2001 12:26 AM

ARG..

Yes but there is still some little additional lag caused by
communication. Sometimes the npcserver can
be laggy without having the gserver laggy,
but I am working on fixing the database lock thing

Oh, okiedokie. I'll have to wait until I hit University before I can really talk about this stuff.
