Graalian Awards - Scripter of the year.

If you don't know what this is about read the Graalian Awards thread in the Main forum. But this is to vote for the Scripter of the year!

tlf288 07-19-2003 05:50 AM

Your little award things are getting really damn annoying. Stop now!

[edit]
Besides, what has Kai done this year that should make him even a nominee? It isn't like he ever does any work  .
[/edit]

Python523 07-19-2003 05:55 AM

I think this is extremelly stupid especially since you three (mykel, tyrial, and kronan) don't script as their main developement choice so therefore you cannot make valid nominations to who the best scripters are, I could probably name more people who would belong on that list,
Me
Giltwist
Trevor
Tseng
are just a few, but even if we were on the balet, kai would probably win anyway so yea

He helped me for about 3 hours on Chaos Faction yesterday, well actually, it ran into today.

Dont make more out of it than it is, this is just for fun, polls will be deleted. Next year, if I do it, I will have a more broad Nominee selection-er people.

Python523 07-19-2003 06:15 AM

if it wasnt a big deal then you wouldnt have bothered posting about it on just about half the normal forums =P

I was thinking that, but on the off chance that it was last year I went ahead and posted that. Anyone want to check?

Don't forget the 3d thing too. I counted the demensions. Although the demensions are flattened to 2d because it has to be, the concept it still 3d.

I think that is what he was talking about by the sphere thing :) .

Kaimetsu 07-19-2003 06:40 AM

Yeah, I shouldn't have made so many spheres.

MadWolf 07-19-2003 06:56 AM

Kai, mainly because he has taken the liberty to start this little "Scripting School."

I completely agree.

Kaimetsu is the best scripter, obviously - but if you want your "fun", the "fun" would be to see who else would get some votes.

Perhaps we should have a "second-best scripter" award poll instead: After Kaimetsu+Stefan, who is the best scripter? :p

(And, you forgot CheeToS on that list as well.)

Projectshifter 07-19-2003 07:56 AM

Wow... I seriously feel very unloved, thanks Jon and Tseng...

*waits for it*
hmm... I'll have to think on this one.

adam 07-19-2003 03:20 PM

Gah, I wanna be on the list !!

I'm at least as good as Giltwist and he was mentioned.

protagonist 07-19-2003 03:24 PM

I think that the entire GST should be up there as well, but I'm also pretty sure that Kai would owninate everyone.

Still, its scripter of the year, not best scripter ever. Or made the most compleatly useless, yet very cool things. hehe

Loriel 07-19-2003 04:33 PM

I do not think that I deserve to be up there ^^
I have not been very useful recently :(

Me either.. I don't think I have done a thing XD

Mykel 07-19-2003 04:52 PM

Heh, you guys were nominated.

*waits for Tseng to say something about how it's not fair and take this whole thing way to seriously*

Dude6252000 07-19-2003 05:59 PM

Mykel, why did you only make it three people per catagory? AND WHY DO I STILL HAVE NO GANI CATAGORY?

osrs 07-19-2003 06:42 PM

I vote Stefan for best scripter.

Angel,Ningnong and ProjectShifter should be listed too..

Surely it's implied that we're voting for the best scripter? Otherwise we may as well judge it on other arbitrary criteria, like quality of shoes.

O_o

Golbez 07-19-2003 09:49 PM

I'd vote ether Ning, Angel, or Delph. It might be Delph because he basically made Era's scripts :O

Kaimetsu 07-19-2003 09:52 PM

This is what happens when you ask non-scripters to rate scripters.

It should be most _productive_ scripter.

Soul-Blade 07-20-2003 01:34 AM

Kaimetsu, obviously. He has helped me in so many ways with script, I could not even begin to describe. Though, that is the keyword: Helped. The fact is, I'm not that bad a scripter myself, and I often compare myself to the best, but that is the reason why Kaimetsu should win. The fact that he is merely capable of helping me is what impresses me. I ask some people for help, and they are usually idiotic about it.

The only 2 people I know who are the greatest scripters (clientside/effects/mathematically crucial) are Giltwist and Kaimetsu. Kaimetsu knows the scripting language better then Giltwist, but Giltwist on the mathematical scale has Kaimetsu beat (from my observations anyway).

For serverside scripting I trust Jagen the most out of anyone, he knows of so many commands only him and Stefan know it is incredible.

That said, I think the best scripter list should have been Jagen, Kaimetsu, and Giltwist. Each have there strengths and weaknesses...but Kaimetsu would have still won because of the ignorance of many people.

Pshaw. I think we're about even in mathematical ability, but I don't think maths is much of a hindrance to either of us anyway. If we need something that we don't know then we can just look it up - we're both talented enough to understand most fields of mathematics without a teacher explaining it to us.

wonderboysp2p 07-20-2003 07:09 AM

i should win an award for being fairly 1337 at scripting and looking so damn sexy... no one thought both could be accomplished... but i did it... NOW MAKE ME A DAMN TROPHY BISH

Gilt's told me he's making something that will unseat you as 'best scripting' =O!

Well, it is more then that. Simple knowing that there is a superior way mathematically is a useful tool...there are many more ways then 1 to do something, but only a handful of those ways are the best. The more you know with math and script commands, the better chances you have of choosing a good way within that handful.

Obviously, but most projects have already been done before somewhere in the world of programming. If needs be, any suitably talented scripter can do a little research and uncover the best approach without reinventing the wheel.

Besides, arguing about the applicability of mathematics is pointless, as it has not yet been established that either Giltwist or I have an advantage over the other.
