Read Please... How To Fix Graal In Long Run

Ok lets admit it... This playerworld server thing is going to spread the playercount to like five per server.

I've found a way to counter this. Make the servers seperate games all together. For example. When a server is bought the owner can download a personal client that connects to their server plus advertises Graal and the Gold Servers.

Graal Accounts would be global and such. But it's client would connect to the server it's for and the gold.

See. Rules could be made to have the game sites link to graal and such. But see.. if each server advertised it's own game then more people would come to Graal. More people would play on the servers and Graal would be a better place in my eyes.

For example. Era makes their own site and advertises it as a differnt game. Therefore people are isolated to Era only.

Unless the people want to download a global client.

Qwert616 07-15-2003 10:51 PM

I don't see how this could help raise player count. :(

If people want to advertise their player world via a website, then they can do that already, right? It's still a part of Graal, isolating just makes it more difficult.

Or maybe I'm missing something.

MadWolf 07-15-2003 10:54 PM

Well in my opinion, I like that idea. But it should also be made if we can let p2p accounts or trial accounts on without ease. It would be sort of like running a gserber I guess. I do like this idea though, makes it look like were not near Graal etc etc.

I second that.

I suppose it would make it harder for players to go on other playerworlds? I dunno.

tlf288 07-15-2003 11:23 PM

I don't know about you guys, but I don't feel like downloading 50 different client just to play Graal.

Zurkiba 07-15-2003 11:25 PM

It isolates the servers, and makes like 20 Graals instead of one.

If you type in MMORPGs in the googi box or what ever you'll get about two pages for Graal. But what if there were 20 differnt games with a universal host?

When people go on Graal all they see is 2k2 stuff pretty much. So if they made their own client then there would be more advertising, reviews, etc.

And I guess they could advertise their server. But it'd be easier if they had their own client.

You can download a universal client

tlf288 07-15-2003 11:28 PM

I tihnk this would lead to WAY WAY more problems then it would ever be worth.

What's the point? That just makes it that much harder for Stefan et al. Not only do they have to maintain the servers but now multiple clients? It would just make it easier, probably, for our friendly anti-graalians to "capture" servers and cause general havoc. Plus, having different executeables is not exactly an appealing thing to the computer illiterate. They just want something they can double-click to run and go from there to the server they want. Not a different client for each individual server.

Nothing would be gained (in terms of software performance boosts) anyway as all would basically be the same just connecting to a different server IP. Kind of like having ten or eleven copies of one huge file. Yeah, having one or two backups is okay, but more than that is a waste of disk space and generally inefficient.

You can download a universal client

You can still ask for web hosting from GO. I believe that something like that is in the works. If not, purchase your own domain and kindly ask GO to link to it.

Also, smaller communities are far easier to deal with than hoardes of players.

*edit*
It would also lead to the same problems as having Graal open-sourced. Multiple different clients is not a good thing to have.

I thought something like this is already availible. The Graal license. If you buy a Graal license, it's like running your own version of Graal, right? In fact, if I had tons of money to waste, I'd buy a Graal license, try to hire Kaimetsu to work for it, try to hire DragonX to play it (with RC powers, so people could accuse him of abusing those powers), and sleep all day.

That is no longer available. I don't think it would be worth it in the end.

No, it is still there at http://www.cyberjoueurs.com/

It seems like it is more aimed towards companies though.

Hmm, I was told it was going to be discontinued. Oh well.

Man, Zurk... You've come up with some pretty far fetched, oft-times silly ideas, but this one... REALLY takes the cake.

Golbez 07-16-2003 11:43 PM

Um... I hate to break it to you, if Stefan went on a server you worked for you'd know he is vary busy on this new scripting codes. From what he told people on Graal 3000 its going to enhance scripting by far. He said after that he has like a hudge list of stuff to do, and it wont be done for awhile. Some stuff he said: Note this is just some of the stuff O.o

New Scripting Language (or client I dont know what this is but im not a scripter lol)
Linux RC
Bugs (lots of them O.O)
Playerworld stuff
Graal 3.0 for everyone
Then if there is bugs with the scripting stuff he would need to fix that.

And if you know that stuff alone will take about 2 months O.O
I dont see how he can fit this in. I would also HATE downloading more then one client for Graal, and even if there is a global client it might turn out like RO (really hudge file).

I think saying 2 months is a little too optimistic about all that being done.

Zurkiba that problem has been discussed before and was solved with the new playerworld space renting system. The thing is that only VIP and gold players can go on the private servers. The count of public servers is limited, those are the best servers and still have most of the players.

And this will probably not be the last time you have to post this either :] Oh well. Such is life.

OMG, this has to be the single dumbest idea I've heard all day (and today has taken the cake on that!)
That would mean that we'd lose players.
If you just download say Era, but then it comes you want to play UN, most people aren't going to go and download UN just to play once in a while, it's stupid. ANd if you quit one, you're most likely done. And you can't server-hop the same. It becomes pointless!
Very few people are on the new PW's. It's only the staff or friends mostly, and the good servers are still intact. Most of them will probably fail, miserably, in a few months and after the 6 months is up they're probably done.

I like that idea. People go to rudora.graal.net, download the rudora client, and instead of a server select screen it automatically goes to rudora. You have to go into options to see a server select screen. That way, it's not a playerworld so much as a game within the graal online family...you buy a Rudora account (and money goes towards their bill), and you have "access to all servers in the Graal Online family" without necessarily having ever seen them...you get bored of Rudora one day and heey, what's this? This game transforms into myriad other games!

I like the idea also. But I think maybe there should be a 'master' client with the server list. And for the other servers there can be 'branding' Like their own images on the start screen and loading screen etc. Set maybe with a config file or so? Anyway just a idea ^^

OMG, this has got to be another person who is posting because he didn't read my post all the way.

You can download a universal client. And it wouldn't lose players. It'd acually bring more in.
