Third phase of Player World Beta testing

Yesteday we have started the Third Phase of Player World Beta testing

I have validated 29 Player Worlds and 14 have already paid and are online.

If you have any problem with your player World renting ask your question there.

I will be away for a few days but i am sure Stefan or Someone else can answer your questions.

For the "Already existing Player World" like Era, Unholy ... We will setup the Control Panel and billing system in the Week starting 21 July.

Wonderful. How does this work for currently UC worlds? (Shifting Ages, Oasis, erm...that is all I know of). Stefan told me 6 months will be given free to them as well, but I wanted to verify.

all currently online playerworlds, will recive a 6month period of no charge. By currenty online I mean the ones before the paid, so yes you do.

Argh, now tons of playerworlds will be poping up. It wont be the same as it was in the past. Now, playerworlds aren't worth as much. By that, I mean..In the past when there was a new player world, we all logged on and played it and went "Hey congrats" blah blah and if it was any good we stayed if it sucked we left. Now there's like..40 playerworlds and players will now spread out, meaning less players on servers, and its just not that exciting anymore. Then again, it's only my opinion. Too bad the people with Classic accounts can't post, I would get some support. :[

Yeah, I will miss that.

Androk 07-12-2003 03:31 PM

Just look at PWs, some of them might be good ;) Most of them are unknown though..

brock128 07-12-2003 04:26 PM

The players shouldn't spread out much. If it's a bad server, people won't play it. And that's that.

Crono 07-12-2003 05:23 PM

The point is, if there's 40 PW's on the list (under construction or not) having a server just won't be as valuable. Back then it was more like.."WOAH YOU HAVE A SERVER! IT GOT ACCEPTED! VERY NICE!"

Now its more like

"Man this server sucks, but atleast it's up"

Graal just isn't graal with 40 PW's, players spreading <-- Applies if theres alot of good servers.

Agreed. Plus they are all hidden right now, meaning they are all equal to eachother. When the new server list is created, only a handful of playerworlds will be easily visible, therefore, you don't have to play tons of junky playerworlds to find good ones, because the good ones will be on the main lists.

With more variety, I don't think it's going to spread players thin, I think it will bring more people to Graal.

Yes, all online playerworlds (including the private ones) that were online before this new pw beta testing, will get 6 free months.

Crono 07-12-2003 05:49 PM

Why do we need more people though? That only increases bandwith (I dont know too much about it but its just my guess) and unixmad will just create another plan to get more money to pay for it all and enough to support himself. -.-

Ok you dont understand this..... Playerworlds pay for them self. They pay for there own bw by renting thats how unixmad is covering the cost. Its kinda basic  :megaeek: ... Sorry for sounding rude but I have tested and seen this system in action its a very good idea and powerful system behind it.

TB3 07-12-2003 06:29 PM

OMG there are going to be alot of errrrr. alot more dead PW's now. Or at least dying ones. Unixmad should add a option to turn a PW in for gold time or something if something happens to it. Cause you know alot of PW's will probably end up not doing anything and people will loose interest. MIght be my opinion but still..

People are paying for these, they should know what they are getting into. If they can't make a playerworld that anybody wants to play, Graal shouldn't have to refund them anything.

Since when is having more players a bad thing?

Or they could just use up the rest of their hosting time to try and get better, or, just abandon the server and let it stay there until their hosting runs out...or until unix makes a shutdown command!

osrs 07-12-2003 08:02 PM

I liked this idea, but some people probably will lag the npc-server,make infinite loops and etc. :(

From what I know each NPC server has it's own process, the infinite loop problems would only suck up CPU on the server thus slowing down everything.

Global Scripting Team will still be active everywhere I think.

Lyndzey 07-12-2003 11:51 PM

I want to know if PWA will have any control over these paid for servers.

Lets say a server takes graphics from another server and the PWA tell them to take it down. The manager will most likely say that they can keep it up because they paid for the server.

I'm just using this as an example. Since people paid for these, some might think they have complete control over their server and can do anything.

I didn't mean refund it but it would save both Graal and that person some stress if it could be converted. Each one of those servers is going to take up a good chunk of space, ram, and proccessing time that could be put into something more usefull if the owner decides he's done with the project. It was only an opinion ne ways :D

Yes i see your point and I see copied scripts and graphix allready in the near future ..... I hope im wrong that would suck...
If you have a server and are using graphix you dont want others to use i think you should put something in front of the filename. Like i do tb_name.gif or fear_name.gif on the graphix I dont want others using. But some things like the bombs and cheapo graphix you see used all the time should they be allowed on other servers? i know I didn't make fire.gif but i use it alot and I didnt make fireorb.gif but ive used it b4. And the waterfall.gif and waterfall graphix from the regular tileset I and lots of others use. How would a person go about that? I think predefining lable on graphix like i said farther up is a good idea to keep people away from your graphix.

Yes, I'm wondering this too. Also along the lines of rules and stuff... Players already get big enough heads thinking they can do what they want because they upgraded their account, I'm sure we'll see the same thing happening with the new pw owners.

Well heres my answer to that: Yes we can.
Well I have been on almost all PWs to update manager list. I practically know most people from one time or another, so thats good as I thought there would be lots of people I didnt know getting annoyed. Anyway heres what I have to say on the matter:

You are paying for playerworld hosting. It is a playerworld like any other playerworld and therefore, the PWA is involved. No where does it say your a special PW, so its the same and equal for all.

prozac424242 07-13-2003 12:10 AM

server stats

To chage the topic to a graal.net question .....

On the tabs on my playerworld that i bought for graal.net,
I do not see one for serverstats -
(players with most kills, most rupees, most deaths etc.)

Since this used to be avaliable on graals' web page long ago,
will it be added to each individual playerworld now that
we pay money for them?

MarkB 07-13-2003 12:25 AM

hmm....for setting up admin rights on the website...the html is fecked or something..because there are drop downs everywhere lol

Simple answer...make each server owner sign a licensing agreement that has a list of rules and guidelines for the usage of their server.

Most people aren't of age to enter into a legal binding contract.

tlf288 07-13-2003 06:51 AM

I think he is thinking of something more along the lines of a TOC. Y'know, the thing that you probably never know about, but you always digitally sign one when you do just about anything on the Internet.

Well, not necessarily a contract...more of a thing like the EULA.

Couldn't it be done as a job like on PWs, no contract or rules just helping out.

In my opinion I believe with paying for a server you have some rights to how it is run but not have the license to "steal work from other servers." This should forfeit any rights you have to your server paid or not if you persist in "theft". An honest mistake by not knowing is one thing as long as you promptly remove the item or items in question. GFX, Levels and scripts belong to each PW and NO PW should be allowed to use another’s stuff without WRITTEN permission from the Manager of that PW. This is my thoughts on the matter.

Out of topic, just asking. Who ever said they were stealing work from other servers, or anything to that matter...?

what about if an LAT makes level graphics, and that LAT works on 2 servers, and he wants to use his graphic on both servers, would that be ok?
=x
what if a player makes his own head, and would like it uploaded on several servers where he plays?
