What's going on with Graal2001?

A common question, so I'll try to address most of the questions staff have been getting here:

Question: What's going on with graal2001?

Answer: Well, as you can see, we've gone classic. We're currently working on fixing problems and preparing new things, so please be patient and you will have some pleasant surprises. :)

Question: What's going on with the overworld?

We are still working at undoing a lot of the problems which occurred when Jeff reverted to the old levels pack and wrote over a few important weapons. We also seem to have a small chunk of missing overworld in the east, which I am uploading from my backup.

Question: What's going to happen to the old kingdoms?

Answer: The old kingdom levels are going to either be removed, turned into small cities with some npcs you can interact with, or turned into events.

Question: Do you guys need staff?

Answer: We've got a rather good team assembled currently. Work is being done at a good pace, and we are making good progress. We may look to hire some more in a while, but we are comfortable with what we have right now.

Question: Do you guys need people to help test/find bugs?

Answer: We've already got a good handle on where the bugs are, and are working to correct them. Additionally, we have a very capable staff team looking to find bugs that we may have passed over.

Question: When will we be allowed back onto the overworld?

Answer: I estimate a few weeks. Before you start complaining; understand that we have a lot to do! In addition to fixing the non-working things, we must complete the unfinished projects as well as work on the new projects. I don't want to hurry and skip over things / do a half-decent job on them. I want us to take our time and get it right this time. You have already seen what hurrying through trying to fix 2k1 has brought about. :\

Question: I WANT 2K1 BACK *CURSES*

Answer: And you think I don't? 2k1 is, has been, and most likely always will be my favorite server. I'm doing as much as I possibly can to get things back on track - the sad thing is that most people don't see the behind-the-scenes work that brings them what they see when they play, and therefore don't appreciate it. All I ask is a bit of patience - Rome wasn't rebuilt in a day.

Question: Then give us more things to do in the meantime!

Answer: We will have a few more things for the waiting room, but the majority of our attention is to be focused on fixing things. Remember, the waiting room is for just that - waiting! We provided some things for you to do to occupy yourselves meanwhile, and our kingdoms administrator and events team will help entertain you; but keep in mind the waiting room is for waiting. Bugging us about when it will go back up, as well as all these other things, only makes it take longer.

Question: Will there be bomys?

Answer: OF COURSE! Bomys are a large part of what make graal2001 what it is! You will still be able to play as bomys, still be able to own them, etc. However, one thing I am VERY adamant about is that there will not be frequent bomy auctions. I simply will not flood the market with bomys.

And as a small postscript, playing as bomys in the waiting room was disabled due to a bug; it is being addressed and bomy players will be just fine when the server is completely reopened again.

Sweet, and you actually have dont a very good job of keeping us entertained, :)

Ok I think I'm content for now especially on hearing the old kingdom levels.

Also one thing I know I along with quite a few other people would prefer is Bomy and Humans not being able to switch back and forth between Races. It completely takes the point out of having races at all. Also perhaps looking into the balance between the two. One having far superior HP and Attack over the other etc.. also there being no time out in the Bomy Attack so it can freeze a player so he/she cant move or fight back unless s/he's lucky.

I'm pushing for this as well - things were much more fun before people could be both races; as for the hp/attack, I will see about lowering it slightly, since the original idea was something like they could have the extra HP because they couldn't hide in their shells (Which they can now).

I still won't be happy about using the hundreds bodies(100-~335) instead of body.png...body2-14,etc... and HP bar/numerical system unless I see a poll that clearly shows people prefer new bodies and hp system over old bodies and yin yang system, and that the winning opinion is in support of people with strong influence (rather than 100 people with anime copied names voting for the old bodies, while 80 players who have played graal for a long time, and will continue to play for a long, and are active in the community vote for old bodies x_X )....

Didn't I already say that the bodies would change again as soon as karsh finishes the ganis? Unfortunately, the new graalshop seems to conflict with his windows98, so it's going to be difficult. *sigh*

Everyone will be happy. Lots of fun coming soon.:)

dustariandigger 07-24-2003 06:53 AM

hopefully itll be completely open before summer is over!:p

The new bodies' advantage was that they had smoother movements, and extra sprites for arms. But wouldn't it be somehow possible to add more arm sprites to the existing bodies?

MysticHasteP2P_2 08-14-2003 05:17 PM

Val did it by making new bodies and importing the new sprites.

Heh. Not a big process, I'd prefer the old body system, But Oh well, I just want them to reset the accounts already and release.

- And doing npcserver reset is really not all that good (in reply to other post about not being open) It tends to screw up a lot Heh.

GhettoChild 08-16-2003 08:34 PM

Well it's been some time since this was last posted. Any update on when the time of release will be?

Myomoto 08-16-2003 10:10 PM

Whenever unix reset accounts :)

Valder 08-16-2003 10:41 PM

*Raises hand*
I have a question...

How long does it take for one *Cough cough*unixmad*cough cough* to reset accounts?

I'm not being sarcastic, but I mean, how long does it take? does he need to reset one at a time, or is it a uber reset of all with a simple push of the button?

My closest guess is that a directory of player attributes exists, and he needs to find that directory and delete the files contained in it.

However, when I did ask him to reset it earlier, he said he would figure out how to do it and do it...he just hasn't yet. I haven't seen him online either to follow-up/remind him about it.

I give all of my apologies, for whatever they're worth, but a scripted reset is too inefficient.

deman1171 08-17-2003 12:40 AM

Yea it's not you're fault though Tseng :\
It's really no ones fault.

MysticHasteP2P_2 08-17-2003 05:29 AM

;.; Noones fault ... :( then who am I gonna stick on my punching bag? ;)
