RC Logs!

How useful would a RC text log, like a PM, be, so everything people said it logged, like deadAIM?

You maybe could be able to set a size/date limit, or keep everything on there. So you could set it so that it doesnt save past a certain date or filesize, or just have everything...

I'm also..slightly confused by that statement.

Python523 07-09-2003 08:30 AM

that can sort of be an invasion of privacy

Same here, hmm... 0_0 x_X

And, well im not trying to make an invasion of privacy, if your on the PW RC it logs it, other wise it doesnt, its useful for checking things..

superb 07-09-2003 12:57 PM

Yes, logs should definitely be kept so managers can be made aware of what their staff do when they aren't online.

you actually believe managers would actually waste their time reading endless chat logs?

I read logs. :) It's interesting what staff will say behind other peoples backs.

I agree.

Well so can every log in the world. I only want one so I can see what has been said by me and others when I was on RC, :(.

XiLe 07-09-2003 06:28 PM

:)

Good idea, Spark. Back when I was Staff Manager at Enigma Graal, I had to give up on some controversies on RC because I had no proof of who said what... that'd solve a lot of problems :)

TripleE 07-11-2003 10:04 PM

Just an RC chat log, or every PM sent log?

Since you are supposed to be using RC for work on a server and not a chat program it is not private. If you want private conversations then use a PM that is what they are for. RC Chat is a public device for use of Staff members to do their job, nothing said there is "private" other than it is for Staff use and not player use so what is said there is for Staff to see and not players but this does not mean in any stretch of the imagination that it is a "private " chat in the same sense as a PM. ( Private Message)

Some of us DO check and read logs and I don't see where this would be any different.

Well its not just that, but that will help too, I wish to read back to find some things that have been said if I forget, also if it goes off the screen you miss it.

And if it was that private, there would be a rule, enforced, about posting RC conversations, which there is not.

If something happens that is signifigant or funny, I usually save it in a log anyway. Man, some of the logs I've gotten are funny.

Python523 07-13-2003 03:30 AM

I think managers could be doing more productive things than reading every single word that is said on rc =/

Thought 07-13-2003 05:44 AM

If not RC logs, then timestamps + extended RC buffer.

It would also log things they do like altering attributes

I'm pretty sure that is already logged.

Golbez 07-13-2003 09:39 AM

I was thinking of having RC chat logged, players PMs is pushing it. What if someone gives off a number to someone, or anther thin through a PM and a corrupted staff sees it and pranks calls them to death. Unlikely but could happen.

Andy0687 07-13-2003 08:12 PM

ive found RC logs to be unpredictible and not worth my time reading usualy

Reason Being:

One day we were sitting arround, and i was fixing someones right
he opened and set mine (without touching anything)

i went to the log and it said he removed my rights, when i had opened mine (my rights) and was looking at them checked

Also for attributes when you open someones attributes and then sit there, anything the player does from the time you open them till you close them is logged so it looks like you might have taken (or given) a fullheart or AP or something

As far as setting stuff, i cant believe what the logs say much after i found out these things sometimes happen

Tyhm 07-17-2003 07:49 AM

I'm opposed to a chat log. Too much crap. It's bad enough you newbies copy and paste various quotes from behind the scenes.

I doubt it is, and even if it is, I want it to be in effect for all players/users.

omg, dude. That log file would be so huge it wouldn't even be funny :| .

Especially on Graal2001 where all they do is talk :p

azuretek23 07-22-2003 01:09 PM

log files aren't bad, I use trillian and I have it log all conversations

the reason I do that is so that if someone gives me important information or lays out a plan I can refer back to the logs for that info

anyway, a log that is optional and stored on the local PC would be fine and I dont see any problem with it... btw the thought of a manager going through it to check if anyone cursed is laughable...
