64k Upload Limitation

Since the P2C (Pay 2 Create) system is out, can Stefan or Unixmad PLEASE allow Level 4 RCs to upload images that are above 64k? You can make an RC right for it, or something.

Re: 64k Upload Limitation

Yeah your gonna have to allow more then 64k at a time because my tile set is gonna be much bigger then 64k lol.

Soul-Blade 06-29-2003 08:04 AM

For a tileset, it isn't needed...BUT there are other things it could be needed for.

Perhaps you can give that right to upload above 64k to a few trusted PW, who you know would not upload any...illegal files?

Spark910 06-29-2003 12:02 PM

Or it could be a hidden server option, that someone could edit. I mean the only reason for the limitation before was because you werent paying, and technically there were no limits on what you uploaded. But if you are paying for so many MB, then you should be able to upload files in bigger sizes...

Tseng 06-29-2003 05:49 PM

Perhaps the 64k limit should be doubled to 128k?

Tilesets theoretically shouldn't be bigger than that, right?

Nope, and if they are they can be split. I think 128 is a more reasonable amount.

zell12 06-29-2003 07:56 PM

I believe the main reason for this limit was to make sure players wern't sharing things like mp3's or other files like programs. Allowing "some" servers to upload over 64k? Not a good idea, a better one would be just allowing the PWA to upload these files. (level 3 Aftershock and level 4 Nemesis + stefan and unixmad is level 5).

Yeah, but they may not want to accept the files all the time as they are busy enough im sure, so how about a server option, changable by AS, Nem and Stefan/Unix.

davidpsy 06-29-2003 09:56 PM

Dude pics1 it self is 205kb alone. My tileset is gonna have way more colors then that. I wish they would allow like 500k or 1mb at most. They could just monoter mp3 and wav files uploads right? Or only allow 100k mp3 and wav files and allow 1mb images.

zell12 06-29-2003 11:45 PM

Or how about just take the filter off and just make it so the PWA has to check all the servers on a regular basis.

G_yoshi 06-29-2003 11:50 PM

Probably not going to happen :p It would be nice, but its too much of a risk. You're better off being patient and waiting for Stefan to upload whatever it is you want uploaded.

Neonight 06-30-2003 04:57 AM

It'd be easier just to disable MP3s over a certain size. ;\

Golbez 06-30-2003 05:01 AM

What if someone in your staff make the MP3 and want it uploaded? Faldur has a staff member who lives in Japan and has his own studio witch allows him to do this kind of stuff.

1.) Convert it to wav, like most of the Graal files.

or

2.) Make it a small looping file. There's no need for a 3 minute song. If it's for a game, it'd be easier to use a MIDI anyway.

Im pretty sure its looped but I dont see a MP3 or a wav under 64k :(

Then use a MIDI.

wonderboysp2p 06-30-2003 07:30 AM

the fact is thatwe just need more than 64k

Spark910 06-30-2003 10:09 AM

Next time I see stefan I will ask him about this.

Androk 06-30-2003 05:05 PM

Err, All I care about is that server should be allowed to upload 1 files that's larger then 64k, that's their tileset (Which should be set in server options). I don't think it's that hard to script, but everyone will benefit from it. By Everyone I mean my self :p

zell12 06-30-2003 05:50 PM

It would also benifit the dumb people that are still using normal .png maps and not .gmaps. Since gmaps make an image for every level and then in the map put it together like a puzzle, the file size of the map is split. So you can upload every one. :)

Spark910 06-30-2003 08:08 PM

Edit: Stefan will consider a peak of 200K upload.

Androk 06-30-2003 08:21 PM

Then can he create some special staff that goes around servers to help them upload tilesets? I mean it's hard to get Stefan or unixmad to do so.

I edited <3

Androk 06-30-2003 08:30 PM

YES! Thank You Stefan and Spark and everyone who supports this.

.wav is only good for sound effects (a soung in wav would be huge)

midi's suck when it comes to quality of sound.

mp3's are far superior when making custom music for your server as it has more options and higher quality.

an average song that is about 1 minute 30 seconds long is normally around 250kb, that is just with 4 instruments.

So for some people who prefer quality over crap making it a midi is not an option.

Personally I plan on uploading the music to a web page in one large file and have it available for download.

Only if you have crappy sound hardware. The MIDI format is completely dependent on hardware and can potentially sound very very good. Virtually every electronic music device conforms to the MIDI standard. So saying that MIDI sucks gives me the impression that you don't know what you are talking about.

OGGs are smaller, and sound better. MP3s are not for creating custom music. True professionals begin all of their electronic compostitions in MIDI format. It is not until later when the song is finished that it is converted into an audio signal such as MP3 or WAV. MIDI is simply a program that tells music hardware what to do and is THE standard in custom music creation. MP3 has more options? Such as?

With the right hardware the MIDI can easily sound just as good, if not better than the mp3.

You're obviously the one who doesnt know what you're talking about. A Midi sounding just as good or even better than an mp3? I could show you countless examples but I'm not releasing anything at this time. Nor will I waste time in having examples made. If you feel like waiting until the server is released then I would be more than happy to show you how midi's lack sound quality compaired to other formats.

Where did I state it was originally created in mp3 format? I don't recall specifiying what format the music was originally being created in. You know what they say about people who assume things.

Again, MIDI is completely dependent on the hardware. MP3 is dependent on the rate by which the file is encoded. You still seem to think that MIDI is a sound file. It is not. MIDI contains no audio samples. It is merely a file that tells a piece of music hardware what to do (e.g. play a Bb major scale in triplets, etc). Sophisticated hardware can produce better sound than any MP3 could muster. MP3 is just good for aftermarket instances where a file should sound the same no matter what hardware is it run with.

You said "mp3's are far superior when making custom music for your server as it has more options and higher quality". I realize you probably mean that it is a better format for after the sound is created. However it sounded as though you were saying MP3 is a better format to CREATE music with as opposed to MIDI. My point is that you can't use MP3 to tell a piece of hardware to play a certain note or progression. Mp3 is only a means to compress an already created work.

Ahh ok sorry about that I suppose I did word that poorly. I was referring to the finished product not the actual creation part itself. Havnt tried actually making the music in mp3 format always use this one format that comes with the program. (cant think of the name off the top of my head and I'm not home to look)
