Forked Lightning

Well first of all this prayer lags the level very BADLY. Leucetious grants this prayer. The second thing is that it does 30 damage a second and with the lag added it can kill ANYONE very quickly. This needs to be fixed (also has something to do with the 2x damage that was added to all spells and prayers which was a dumb idea)

Forked lightning isn't the only one that's really laggy, all of the lightning spells are. And no, damage is fine, its just the lag that as bad, with your lack of resistances that make it hurt so much.

Damage isn't fine. The damage should increase depending on level of magic/wisdom not just automatically do 2x more damage, that was the dumbest thing implemented.

It's better than having spells that do hardly any damage, and lag the game horribly.

I like it the way it is.

Dark-Dragoon 05-04-2003 04:37 AM

Drag's just made because Rahtnab kept causing havoc in the post office with Forked Lightning :)

Kaiser2 05-04-2003 06:31 AM

I love that spell, unless it's used on me.

I am mad because it's way overpowered and Kaiser agrees with me by saying that he doesn't like it used on him. Of course nobody who has it will want it toned down because they like killing people with it but I'm sure once you've been a victim you will want it toned down. Why not? It is way too strong so it needs to be toned down, I dont care if people say 'you only want it toned down cause you get killed by it'. I get killed by many things but this is one thing I can't tolerate, overpowered spells/prayers.

Clarification, please. Do they actually do 2x more damage, or was the damage merely doubled?

Locke_boy 05-04-2003 09:18 AM

DragonX, please stop complaining about the magic power having been doubled. That was a great step in balancing mage/warrior classes, and shouldn't be taken back. If you hate magic so much, just hit the mage when he's casting!

All magic and prayers were actually doubled in damage. Locke, how was it a great step in balancing it when it didn't balance it, it just made mages 2x stronger than people that use weapons! If I get hit by 1 icestorm by a level 1 sorcerer, I lose over 100 HP! That is LUDACRIS, that is not BALANCED. This needs to be fixed.

Locke_boy 05-04-2003 10:25 AM

One icestorm from a level one sorcerer? You must be very very weak!

I've taken icestorms from sorcerers ranging from level 5 to 11, and I've survived every one of them, most of them doing very little damage!

I don't know what you're talking about.

2x stronger when they hit - also, it depends on your resistance against ice/fire/electricity/whatever. I havn't been victim of any magic attack yet but I'd be surprised if my snowstorm would do more than 10hp damage... maybe 20 if given enough time...

.. and what DX wants is for your spell to do 5, maybe 10 damage. :\

So your saying... A level 1 mage is supposed to kill all other level 1 players in one hit?

And thats how it's supposed to be?

You are truly insane.

Who knows, maybe that was a bug. That would be Ludacris. Assuming it really was a level 1 sorcerer. Unless of course he had professional help and weird super powerful items or something.

Dark-Dragoon 05-04-2003 05:29 PM

Magic casters are strong when they have good spells.
Weapon users are strong with speed and good equipment.
Both good in their own way. You don't like getting PK'ed? Go to Peaceful.

I didn't say that, DX did x.x

MasterNuke 05-05-2003 04:39 AM

DX takes 100 damage from icestorm prolly because he ran around in it... if anyone runs around in the area of any damage spell except bullets... it would deal lots more

Kaiser2 05-05-2003 05:50 AM

what DX and I want is TRUE blance of classes, as warriors get stronger by levelling up, so should mages. As warriors have a "wc" and "damage" stat, mages should have an "MP" stat (Magic Power), and a "PP" stat (Prayer Power) as in if you level in magic or wisdom, you raise MP or PP, respectively.

Edit: oh yeah, MP=greater magic damage
PP= greater prayer damage.

Please take note that it doesn't cost spell points/grace to swing your sword, but it does to cast spells. Sure at first you don't do much damage or hit things very often, but spellcasters of the same level can get off about 1-10 spells per minute (depending on the spell), then warriors get to about level 10 and do quite well in the dungeons with their 40+ damage swords, whereas spellcasters are still relying on sp/grace (which does go up quite high, although the cost to cast these spells goes up too), and unless you have 10k to burn on some good magic rings, you're not going to be geting off a large amount of spells quickly, especailly after your sp/grace runs out.

Locke_boy 05-05-2003 07:18 AM

Precisely

Satrek2000 05-05-2003 09:10 AM

If I might add - grace has an advantage to magic as you can actively recharge it (pray it up).

Locke_boy 05-05-2003 10:27 AM

I've got to disagree, really. Magic recharges naturally, and you can wear gear that ups your magic regen rate .. there's nothing that ups your grace regen rate (aside from worshipping Brigid).

Satrek2000 05-05-2003 12:47 PM

Okay, a mage's natural regeneration goes up to full, and can be increased, and a priest's only goes up to half and can't be increased - but: priests can pray to raise their grace which I concider faster (from what I saw) and, more important, double their gracevalue. So, normally a priest has only half of what a mage has, but can go to equal in little time and even keep double if "charged."

graaliholic 05-05-2003 06:08 PM

Sorcerers can charge with rune of transferrence.

Satrek2000 05-05-2003 08:04 PM

Every priest has what is necessary to charge - Mages need to find, buy and learn it - I havn't seen it yet...

Spells, as they are now, can easily kill people, with my thought in mind, it'll make it fair, what you're asking for is basically to make it so mages can kill anyone anyday, you want spells to do more damage? Buy something that attunes to the spell.

I didn't say anything about wanting alot more/infinate SP/grace, I don't even know where you got that idea from. People are complaining about how much damage spells do, and I, from a medium-ish leveled viewpoint of magic (seeing as I am one) that when I go hunting monsters, I constantly have to stop, let my sp/grace regen, then go back out, or cast a spell every 10 seconds to minute, depending on the spell's level. I just wanted all you melee classed players to know that it isn't easy to level as a spellcaster. I sometimes fail a better spell, but does anyone fail a IWD scroll? I didn't think so. The whole point of my post was to inform you that it's not easy being a spellcaster, especially without melee, unless you have quite generous friends willing to give you that expensive ring, or if you're one of those silly players who buy stuff with real money :o
