Recent Hacking Outbreaks

yes we have all heard about all of these hackers hacking this screwing up that. well i have an idea to solve this?
Stefan or Unixmad or the Game Master could put together an elite team of elite scripter or coders or what not to basicly be a group of global security members who try to stop and surpress hacking outbreaks.
sound good or no?
if so who do you think would fit this job placement?
i would say Kai and Falados would becuase they are both great scripters (and bod the scripting forum so yeah...)
but i doubt they would want to, i mean it would be alot of work ;x

_0AfTeRsHoCk0_ 04-24-2003 03:47 AM

This was already created a very long time ago

It was called something like "Graal Security Systems" or "Graal Security Team"

Basically, Unixmad wanted them to be kept a big secret so people wouldn't know who they are, they got global RC's and tried to inform him of recent events in the hacking community. I really didn't see much done from them.

Sounds like a good idea to me, :) !

Well, the person who I knew that was on the team I haven't seen for like 8-12 months, so I guess they're dead. If it wasn't, I wouldn't have said because I'd probably get into some big trouble, but this was back in the final days of SG111 etc, just after Graal kingdoms released for the first time.

magicbud3344 04-24-2003 03:52 AM

...are you talking about when 2k2 was released and 200 people watched kraken kill a giant squirle then go AFK for crumpets, or you do mean back when it was released as a demo over christmas break or somthing? i was playing 2k1 before 2k2 was on the server list and i don't remember this, but also i didn't get informed on alot ;P
anyways well it might be a good idea, if they could find people that would actully work and help and such
(i could make graphics so ugly hackers wouldn't think about hacking  )

cynicalfree1 04-24-2003 03:54 AM

I wish the Security team was active or would try to do more. I know there isnt much you can do to stop a person from hacking. I'm just tired of all my accounts being hacked. And almost every time I log onto a playerworld, I get like 5 PM's saying you manage Atlantis horribly.....I have never worked for Atlantis, nor am I the manager. A while ago Ihad Lyndzey add to the aco****s info to not change the email address,or password unless I asked. I dont think people can do that now though because of the fraud and such.

Question: Why was the word a c c o u n t s sencored.

Loriel 04-24-2003 03:55 AM

What could they do?

Kickban the ... "hackers"? Stop calling them hackers, grr
Local PW staff can do that too. Also, undoable as these people can easily get new accounts.

Fix security holes?
In scripts, local PW staff's job. In the client, only Stefan can do anything.

cynicalfree1 04-24-2003 03:56 AM

Your right Loriel there isnt much you can do to stop someone who is hacking

You mean, using trainers.

magicbud3344 04-24-2003 04:00 AM

well they could keep making new scripts to fill up security holes or whatnot, i know PW staff can't fix it thats why i'm saying the people in this team would have the power to fix it. or somthing...i'm not really sure how all of this works but it was just an idea

what do you call people that use trainers?
they are altering game play witch is hacking i thought ;x
were not saying they are extrodinary people that shut down graal at the snap of thier fingers but hacker is the most comminly used term for them.

Loriel 04-24-2003 04:01 AM

What are you thinking off?
There are basically two things.
Hardcoded Stuff: Only Stefan can fix.
Scripted Stuff: PW people can fix.

That commonly used term is wrong though, as they are not hacking anything but plainly using trainers.
The correct term might be Cracker or even Script Kiddie.

magicbud3344 04-24-2003 04:03 AM

how come stefan can only fix the hardcore stuff?
is that that advanced or is it only fixable from his computer or what?
and some PW staff just can't find that good of people to stop hackers with scripts and junk. thats why a global team could go from PW to PW and help out

Loriel 04-24-2003 04:05 AM

Stefan and Unixmad cannot afford to give anybody else access to that stuff, as that will basically give them powers over all Graal things basically, which is not what the average staff guy should be trusted with.

magicbud3344 04-24-2003 04:08 AM

i see....
well i dunno i still think a team that could do the minor stuff and keep an eye on other things that might require stefans help so they could notify hima nd he oculd do the hardcore stuff. like i said before, not all PWs have great staff that can stop hackers (Era is in mind when i say this)

Loriel 04-24-2003 04:09 AM

Perhaps the PWA could take care of those minor issues :/

Also, you must realize that those security holes abused by the trainers are not someting that can easily be fixed without changing a lot of the game mechanics.

alright i understand
and yeah good thinking the PWA could do that i suppose, but i was under the impression that they were more about inspecting PWs for illegal things and reviewing them more then actullying going on a PW and making things for them :X

Yes, that's part of the PW inspecter's job. They will see if the servers need anything. The server admins can inform the PW inspecters, and they can inform Nem/Stefan, ect.

magicbud3344 04-24-2003 04:23 AM

why can't the playerworld staff members inform nem or stefan???

meaning the server admins can tell the PW inspectors meaning the PW inspectors can inform stefan or nem.
why can't the player world's staff or "Server Admin" inform stefan or nem?

Less people for Nem and Stefan to go through. And they will know who the PW inspecters are, they dont know all of the staff.

magicbud3344 04-24-2003 04:34 AM

well stefan and nem both do not know me.
and in my other thread about era problems you told me to just close the thread and get ahold of a game master or stefan.
if it is that easy as you say it is then the Player Worlds's staff should be able to do it ;P
(i'm not saying that PW inspectors shouldn't tell stefan or nem, infact they should, but i just thought it was funny that you told me to contact nem or stefan then you say that the staff of a playerworld should tell a PW inspector instead of Stefan or Nem)

PS. i have troble spelling nemisiseses so i do use the name nem alot ;x

Well, urrrmmmm, that was different. Uhhhh, yea. *thinks of a reason* OH YEA! We dont have any PW Inspecters right now, GOTCHA!

btw:
juss think: Nem then eisis

Its not. You spelled it wrong, in a way where it spelled a different word starting with a c, and ending with a t.

Spark910 04-24-2003 03:41 PM

We already have a team for that: IOT

Oh yeah. I remember now. This was called the Illegal Operations Team. They were created by Unixmad to just report illegal things happening on Graal, a sort of bureaucratic job. They were also given global RC. A sort of useless job if you ask me, very useless, as I never saw them do anything and I'm 90% sure they're non exsistant anymore.

Loriel 04-24-2003 06:32 PM

I never heard of them.

MadWolf 04-24-2003 06:56 PM

No sense in organizing something like this when Graal C++ is being released soon. We will then see how well Caz and M1nt can hack.

I know who is head of that team. I think its only that one person though. So there isn't a ''Team'' as such.

And do they actually hack? Its more of mass trainers and Ddos.

_0AfTeRsHoCk0_ 04-24-2003 07:48 PM

His name was Ne0
He's the only guy who I knew was on the team, and maybe Angel was, but I doubt it

Loriel 04-24-2003 09:32 PM

I doubt anybody is truely hacking on Graal.
Hacking has very few to do with trainer use, or even trainer creation, hacking is not what you get when you enter that word into Google.

I do not think that C++ is seriously stopping trainers, as movement (speed hacking, wall hacking) is still done client side, and showimgs (all those recent annoyances) must remain possible too.
Also, many security holes have nothing to do with Graal, but only with the silly, insecure scripting. When scripting larger things, scripters should always see all input from the client as very suspicious.
When helping out on various PWs, for example, I often see people working around the serversideness of setlevel by having an action in the Control NPC that warps players to destinations they choose. That is just an invitation for hackers to have free warpto.

Yes, i've noticed that too. When Doomsday first got npc server tifa hired some scripters who knew how to use it. The first thing they did was make a ton of functions to do a lot of stuff with triggeraction.

magicbud3344 04-25-2003 12:45 AM

i'm not talking about a team to report illegal happinings to unix like the IOT, but i heard they will still around, the IOT that is not that i know anything about them becuase if you are thinking i do then i don't!
