i thought the postmaster delievered mail letters to you? o.o
Mailboxes can't disappear...
It would be kind of pointless and silly to have different colored mail boxes. I don't care what my mail box looks like. *shrugs*

Both my mailboxes, and many others are missing. |
.. and I never was quite sure how the mail system worked ..
.. could someone explain how a postman gets our letters? I mean .. if you send a letter at the office in Bomboria, and address it to "Shawn of Dustari" .. does the computer think "Oh I see the word Dustari so I send it there" .. or does someone with a brain sort it out? .. and what if you make a mistake? .. and what about now, with the two Zormite Republic kingdoms .. if the computer sorts it, that's a problem .. .. it's things like these .. these reasons are why no one sends letters >.> |
Actually, people send the letters, not an NPC.
As far as I know, an NPC sends it to the mailbox for the kingdom it has in the name. I don't know what happens after it gets there.
::note to self make mail man gfx:: well ummm i'll work on samurai's post office if PS will script an NPC that goes from house to house.
No, you people, a PERSON sends it, that's what the "P" kingdom right is for, Postman, a postman delivers it...
Who decides who's postman? How many are there? What if they aren't on or just don't feel like delivering the letters? Can they read them? Do they have to fetch them in the post office? Is "P" global? If so (and I'd say it is) what about kingdom members with "P" delivering letters to enemies in times of war?
People to get "P" right is decided by the king of the kingdom (duh.)
Usually around 1, maybe 2 or 3. Of course. Yes. Dunno what you mean by that...um...I guess? What about it? |
I meant what happens if someone sends a letter from kingdom a to kingdom be? Does postman B have to go to Kingdom A to fetch the letter and deliver it to B? So what if people are just too lazy?
Yes, he has to walk himself, and if he's too lazy? Then fire him and select someone that isn't lazy.
then samurai is in trouble since we just have military ranks :P
I was just wondering, as I've never seen anyone with a rank that'd suggest postman. Do they get some kind of mat to aide them in finding the letter's destinations?
A map? no, it'd have to be updated all the time and it'd get annoying, and I don't think it's possible to script a map to keep up with all the houses being built/moved/already existing.
Yeah, I thought so - seein the shere number of houses - but then, how can a postman know all the houses? (Though I doubt there are that many letters arround...)
There should be a set of options that you can click on the map. Like on the side, some check-boxes that would allow you to make the houses, towns, signs, etc... show up that you placed.
So if you click town names, signs, and houses, only they will show up on the map. It is to make the map less crowded. But anyway, back onto this topic. Mabey aside from the tabs you can switch the map so that it shows the dynamic things on the island, like houses, mabey even cannons. That way it would be easier for the postman to deliver the mail. But who says the postman has to deliver it? Mabey on letters you can assign a particular kingdom for it to go to when you put it in the mail box of any postoffice on main and other kingdom islands. Then the letter is sent to the kingdom, and from there, it is sent to the account name assigned to the letter by a npc. :) |
Postal service would be cool if they made packages. You buy a box, load it up with stones, coal, etc, and pay 3p to ship it to yourself. Then you go back to the mines. When you get home, all your stuff's piled up inside the front door.
I like that idea a lot. It'd help me a lot with alchemy in the future, because some of the items are gonna probably be VERY heavy, and maybe, it should cost plat based on how much the package costs? like, say, 1 plat for every 100kg? I say that because the newer players would probably mine a lot, and it's hard for them to get plat.

Messenger=Perfect Newbie Job.
You can carry things. You don't know the world very well. You're given a package (an empty box really - special NPC) and an arrow appears over your head, GTA1 style, pointing you towards the right ferry dock if you're on main or the right house if you're on the destination island. You're given free passage on the ferry (so the minimum postage is 10p for a round trip) and an hour to reach your destination. If the package does not arrive in that hour, the control system destroys that package and puts a new one just like it in the stock room. If you trade the package to the right door, you get the postage and some experience, the package is removed and the real package is transferred to that player's house. Postmen have a similar system. A package of letters is dropped at the post office (automatically, but to keep up appearances an empty box is shipped there from the Bombo Post Office every week). Each letter, when equipped (weapon-letters, similar to the false packages) shows an arrow to the destination. I could do the arrows with showpoly really...just need to figure out a clever way to find a house on an island. |
