G2K0 - Reset Time?

Some complain that G2K0 is no longer Classic, and has become another Adventure/Bomy Moon clone. As predicted.
Others complain that G1998 was a doomed experiment, because if it is not allowed to evolve it will never hold an audience - that Classic was not merely a level set but the potential to grow as well.
Still others state that G2K0 would work perfectly if only I was using one specific levels pack - though they never agree on which one was Perfect Graal.
Yet more state that G2K0 should be updated only to fix persistent bugs.
Some state that G2K0 should be updated for bugfixes and playerhouse addition only.

Where do you weigh in? I can easily reset it, allow it to continue its evolution, reset and tell the staff not to add big things, reset and tell the staff only to add bugfixes. It will be difficult to manually batch an entire new levels pack to the current syntax, but I could hypothetically do it if everyone's agreed on exactly which version, it never has to change, and nobody ever ask me to do another different pack again.

Soul-Blade 04-11-2003 01:21 AM

Personally, I think Graal has become better, and G2k0 should be forgotten. It is old news, and we have new, better things to play.

Dude6252000 04-11-2003 02:09 AM

What, Kingdoms? That's hardly even graal. :|

PrinceDark 04-11-2003 02:16 AM

I agree with Soul-Blade it should be forgotten. Simply shut it down since very few even play there.

CyberX 04-11-2003 03:20 AM

New option: Shut it down.

brock128 04-11-2003 01:25 PM

The reason I signed up for graal was to play graal. Not some crappy MMORPG clone.

I haven't been here long enough (classic-wise) to know which pack is the best. Sorry.

ditto.

draygin 04-11-2003 04:08 PM

lol shut it down? The server gets more players than half the current pws. Just sunday night I saw 23 people playing on it and one RC and no npc server. You go on almost any pw and half the population is RC the other half is the RC player accounts and npc server. :p I dont see how its turning into a clone of anything. I mean yea people have been putting houses all over the freaking place which looks really dumb. x.x But aside from the playerhouses its exactly the same as it was then. For the most part. Personally with all the players that are there now I would say leave it as is until the playercount drops.

syltburk 04-11-2003 04:34 PM

Shut it down

GoZelda 04-11-2003 06:42 PM

Leave it, it's a sorta museum...
Maybe make it free?

draygin 04-11-2003 06:55 PM

To the people who want it shut down. Give reasons. Why should it be shut down? The only one who has even given a valid statment was PrinceDark who said no one plays it. Which is incorrect since just sunday I saw 23 people playing it and it was above over half the current PW's.

You want it shut down, give valid reasons on why it should be. Saying shut it down accomplishes nothing. Opinions on why it should please.

Wasn't it a present by Stephane for us?

Only reason it didnt go down to well was the hacking part. Then ever one thought it was still like 1998 and that you could hack. I saw quite a few old players there when I still played graal. One guy named Bradley showed me his house up north of Supernicks (house from back in 2000 or so not one added recently) Maximus plays. I played but quit. :) But dont know that I count since I was only a newbie then.

"Leave it and only allow new bugfixes and playerhouses"

Along with the old GC prizes from winning events like the lv3 mace ^_^

draygin 04-11-2003 10:27 PM

Also I got to go questing with Tyhm on G2k0. Now that was an awesome tyhm.. err time. ;) :D

Tyhm 04-11-2003 11:24 PM

Your desire to see it destroyed demonstrates poor intentions towards its best interest - as this poll is about what would be best for G2K0, and Destroying It is not what's best for it, your desire to see such an option is irrelevant.

Also, G2K0=Graal 1998="Classic" Classic Graal, not to be confused with G2K2=Kingdoms or G2K1=Bomy Moon. How so many people read G2K0 as G2K2 constantly amazes me...

Loriel 04-12-2003 12:36 AM

This Poll kinda misses it's audience, as most of G2k's players probably do not have a forums account.
Perhaps you could implement some voting device into the server itself... ?

I do not play there (you almost guessed so, right?), but I think the best thing would be to leave it, but only fix bugs that are not of historical importance.

I have no knowledge of the different level packs, so I cannot recommend one either.

melissa1988 04-12-2003 07:27 AM

We already have a polling place in Graal 2000.

Personally, I think we should continue to let it evolve. That's what our players want. They've all been begging for a level 3 sword quest for a long time now for instance.

LOA--Paul 04-13-2003 10:12 AM

Reset it to how it was at first, then do bugfixes only.

I go on there periodically with people I know when I'm bored on Graal and visit old places. It was crap to see some guy put a statue in the pit in the desert near onnet town, and a bunch of new buildings were slapped there. That's where US was formed

melissa1988 04-14-2003 05:42 PM

My only problem with that is our regular players like it the way it is. I think it should be up to them, not everyone here on the forums.

bradwood 04-15-2003 10:18 AM

Reset the levels, everything but bug fixes, transfer the inside of the houses to big city, don't allow any new playerhouses that aren't in classic style or anything else that will change the world too much.
However, I think that a few addons from later versions of graal would be nice, such as the lizard sword quest and the zone, not more.

bradwood 04-15-2003 10:19 AM

Another thing.
Remove the FAQs and the Events Team and get someone else in charge of the server (so the same things won't happen again).

I stopped playing there since they began to change it so much.
Also, I know a few people that actually wanted the server and aren't playing there because of that. Even Ange that always said he'll come back if there will be a server with the old server checked it and logged off :|

Tyhm 04-15-2003 11:56 PM

Da.
Using the G2K0 polling place would skew the results towards those who like G2K0 enough to play it regularly enough to vote.
Here, it's people who don't even play G2K0, but either did once or otherwise have a stake in it.

And currently, "Let it continue to evolve" is winning. Which is fine for me - I don't have to do anything that way.

I may release the source files for it someday in the future, for people who want their own True-Classic-style World.

PsYcHoRaYmOnD 04-16-2003 12:34 AM

i say let it evolve, i'm sort of curious to see how it will turn out this time around
