Monster Magic Problem/Suggestion

Not sure whether this is better here or in the bugs section, but this doesn't seem like a bug, so...

Monsters that can cast magic do WAY too much damage, I had like 27 magic resist with my ammy (suggest from Excal in another thread.) And my hp was currently at 100. I get hit by one snowstorm, and I died...how the heck does that make sense?

It doesn't, because I've had around that much HP .. and got hit by more than one spell at once from the monsters and survived .. and the most magic resist I've ever had is 25.. although I don't think magic resist would affect snowstorms (cold resist would).

Yeah...it's really dumb x.x
This should be fixed, I think.

I believe magic resist is to non-elemental magic, and the elements have their own resists.

DragonX 03-24-2003 03:40 AM

magic resist is for stuff like 'magic bullet' or 'magic missile' and the other type of bullet stuff like bullet storm, bullet swarm, etc.

Kaiser2 03-24-2003 04:13 AM

magic bullet is a physical type magic spell.

Too bad it does magic damage Vlad =p
It's like Govannon's "weaponmagic"

Kaiser2 03-24-2003 03:46 PM

Last I heard (from Shrimp I think) that it does physical damage, DX should look it up in his secretive spell description secret sources site thing x.x

Err...I'm not exactly sure about this, but that doesn't really tell the damage type, does it?

TeRRi2k 03-26-2003 04:15 PM

yea its elemental, not based on your magic resist, unless its that type o.O
I think you get more HP taken off of you if you are actually hit by the bullet coming out of a spell(not magic bullet, but that blue ball thing that comes out out firespells, snowstorms, etc.)

Affirmitive... When the actual projectile of a spell hits you... it deals its damage... then it does its area effect damage...

Magic, Ice, Fire, Lightning, and several others have their own resist catagory...

I haven't confirmed that weaponmagic does Magic based damage... it might be a catagory that cannot have resistance/vulnerability...

Tyhm 03-27-2003 02:15 AM

It is

I think weapon magic should be like this. You mark your weapon, and if it has weapon magic on it, you can cast a spell which imbues the weapon with that spell, so, if you hit a creature with it, it casts the spell, this will also take mana, and as soon as you run out of mana, the spell is removed from ther sword. OR, if this idea is bad, then it can just temporarily add an element to the sword (/mark it, cast icestorm, and now the weapon has frost damage instead of weaponmagic for a limited time.)

Juron Pilo 03-31-2003 02:45 AM

magic missile
mana ball
magicweapon
anthing with a name like this does pure magical dmg
ALL spells deal magical dmg but only in part... they also do elemental dmg... explaining the damadge you were receiving
