a better way to stop macromining

since new players are most hurt by monsters in mines, and least likely to macro mine,

I suggest the mining rocks fall into a random location along the wall where they appear, this means it won't be in exactly the same place twice, the player will have to move to the new spot and mine it before it may appear where it was before, and may still appear in a few other random spots.

This means, a macro-miner will not know where it will fall next, and cannot macro-mine.

Farming is already hard enough on new lvl 1 players, I hate to think of how many people will leave graal frustrated when their hard earned pick axe and tools disappear when they die, after mining for a little while.

It's hard on new players starting out without even a sword.

the other option, is to except anyone under lvl 2 from item loss, to help them get started and all.

I like most of your idea, but you see, if you make it fall in a random location, then it might fall over the wall, where players can't access it, and the rocks would gather up over time, the curren way, rocks won't appear if a rock is already in it's path, and will always fall in a mine-able place.

Kinatt 03-06-2003 02:51 AM

umm you can make a script so it wont

Kaiser2 03-06-2003 02:52 AM

I guess, but I'm no scripter, and I'm just saying things from how much I do know.

Tyhm 03-06-2003 04:55 AM

I thought foggies were weak enough...oh well.

busyrobot 03-06-2003 08:24 PM

When I said random, I meant to say "1 of 12 random spots", such as along the back wall or a little forward, and the pre-defined spots would all be in clear areas.

I don't find much difficulty mining personally, but I am only worried about the new players without armor or weapons, if they drop what little they have when mining, they start all over for the most part.

Tyhm 03-06-2003 09:18 PM

Of course, in my humble opinion mining should be like doughrolling and praying - hit it once, cancel by hitting anything else...

Kinatt 03-07-2003 03:00 AM

praying you just hit the button once?????? omg Ive been crazy tapping

Kaiser2 03-07-2003 03:17 AM

No, you need to keep tapping it over and over, I remember this one guy told me, he has been praying for 2 hours now, and still, his weapon isn't enchanted, I asked if he was tapping pray, or using it once and waiting, he said once and waiting...

I think there should be like...a GK newb manual. Hey, is it allowed for me to post an FAQ thread for GK on main forums? :]

busyrobot 03-07-2003 07:37 PM

You don't need to pray by pressing the button over and over, you can hold the key down and allow your keyboards key-repeat do the rest.

You 'pray up' your weapon everytime the 'you pray' text appears, the problem with the 'pressed it once' confision I think is around the fact if you press the key once, your gani keeps praying indefinately.

Here's the rule of thumb: deplete your grace, and if it's going up fast you are praying can blessing/gaining resistances etc.

If it is going up slowly, then whatever is happening is not a repeated praying. :)

I agree about the newbie guide.

P.S: I have noticed when I bless 5 weapons in a row, I can't get the next one to bless in any real timely manner, so you may also tick the gods off or something if you get too demanding.

Kaiser2 03-07-2003 09:14 PM

Yeah, I noticed that too, I once blessed like 6 weapons, and the last one took 4! hours just to get to "of <Godnamehere>" Then I had to get it to +2 which took another hour or 2 overall. Yes, I was praying properly, so don't flame me with "LOLOMGORXYOUSUXLOLOLOLPRAYMORETHENONCENUBLOLOLROX "

I'm working on one.

I haven't been so much lately (I have my reasons), but it'll be done soon enough.

Kaiser2 03-08-2003 04:00 AM

I'm gonna go make an FAQ thread :O

Tyhm 03-09-2003 06:07 PM

How about you just lose 5 exp for mining where a rock isn't? "Ouch! You wrench your arm out of its socket as you swing at nothing!" You gain 25 mining I think, and it would skip the first three, but if you're macromining, you'll come back with a pile of stuff and 0 exp...

But I like one-button mining better.

Juron Pilo 03-10-2003 01:38 AM

yes thym is right... plus if you don't do so we could sue you cuz there was no proper warning from the manufacturer of the game-_-. Tapping like that is a health risk ya know?

That's somewhat true, you could possibly get carpel tunnel (I think that's what it's called) but I don't think any games warn of this, as it's really the keyboard, and possibly the computer manufacturer's responsibility to warn of this, as all use of keyboard/mouse contributes to it, not just use while using one program. Though it certainly would be nice to make it one press. :P

Not a good idea...what about the people who use axes to kill things? "Despite that you slay battle potatoe with your mining axe, cuz there was no rock there, you lose exp!" And Tyhm...if you just started the game, exp would be no big deal, so if an oldbie has 2 accts, the one he doesn't care about can just mine away without the player caring...

brock128 03-10-2003 02:34 PM

Also, an oldbie can kill the smokeys with their axe by... macromining >P My idea is that the rock won't drop again unless you move away.

Googi 03-12-2003 08:10 AM

How does putting in monsters stop macromining anyways, people can just use the 360 degree kick.

Kaiser2 03-12-2003 09:23 PM

or just regular punching, or even just the regular mining axe.

Juron Pilo 03-14-2003 11:12 AM

If that is so then why is there always an introductory to all video game instruction manuels expalining all of this? Hrm? Hrm?! Can you explain to me why Nintendo stoped using minigames involving high rates of tapping or joystick spinning in Mario Party after the first game(and a warning in nintendo power no less). Anyways I had the same complaint about praying... you should just press it ONCE to activate(not HOLD, press) and again or move to deactivate-_-

Because you need to press it quicky. And it would hurt. Also, rotating the joystick, because of it's design, could cause blisters.

Kaimetsu 03-14-2003 03:02 PM

The best way to stop macromining: Only have the rock fall if there are no players within x distance of it.
