Magery and Praying absurdity

Ok I'm really wondering why I should bother learning magery... I can recover grace FAR faster than I can recover mp if I use the pray skill... I MIGHT consider it ok if there was a meditate/concentrate skill for mages so they could regain mp fast as well. PLEASE don't weaking praying mind... I want mages strengthened lol. Gimme that and I guess I could consider the rate of mana regeneration at least half reasonable^.^

Back in the day when I was a mage, I could recover 1sp every 3/4 of a second, I doubt anyone culd pray faster than that :p

Concentration.
Though I hear there was a Meditation once.

Juron Pilo 03-05-2003 11:32 AM

well praying raises sp like 3 times as fast as natural regeneration so think 4 grace every 3/4 secs

Kaiser2 03-05-2003 09:25 PM

You beat me to it, I was thinking earlier of posting about like, for Sorcs, a Meditation skill, so they can recover sp faster. See, if ever class would have a certain skill that no other class can have, then Mages could have meditate to recover sp faster, priests would have some skill besides piety to recover grace, Warriors would have something like refined smithing, which lets them craft better items at anvils (maybe Event items [but that would use hella a lot of items, including alchemy things like mineral oil, cinnabar, etc.]), Alchemists would be able to do something special, like...they sell alchemy items for double or something, Barbs might have a strength raising while speed lowering skill. (Damage rises by 1/4, but speed is cut down by 3/4 or something.), Thieves could pick locks on doors and treasure chests in dungeons which get refilled with treasure every 30 minutes or something (could be based on time zone, so everyone gets an equal shot at it...dunno how that'll work though). Also, did I miss any classes?

Get magic +# rings, or items. Also, more armour you got on, less regain for mp and grace. Probably the ac affects it or the weight. Not sure yet, Ed should know.

MKSLAYER 03-05-2003 10:59 PM

the reason this is is that most of preists prayers are defensive not offensive. how ever mages are mostly offensive. so just imagine a wizard that casts create bomb every 3 secs get the picture?

Tyhm 03-06-2003 02:14 AM

And they can at higher levels. With this, a low level mage can shoot his three magic bullets, miss, hide, recover his spell points between dodging monsters, and come back to attack.

Lower int or pow stat makes you recover mp slower I believe, and maybe, if not that, then the weight of the armor would makes you focus on thinking of it's wieight, instead of regaining your "inner balance" (spell points) so that would explain it.

Juron Pilo 03-06-2003 07:44 AM

I fail to see why a priest should be able to attack faster that a mage... if I may point out priests can cast cause x wounds like you described magic bullet being cast!!!!!! thats insane... especially since cause wounds is susceptable to gaining the powers of the gods and thus doing extra damadge to certain enemies!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My grace and mp raise at a comparable rate.... untill I start hyper praying by holding down my "e" macro..

Kaiser2 03-07-2003 03:09 AM

Using macros is bad, illegal, I think, so don't post about it, it's easier to just hold down the hotkeyed button, duh.

Juron Pilo 03-07-2003 07:50 AM

your suffering from an illusion that there are differences between the words bind/hotkey/macro.... btw... if your gonna get technical this is NOT a hotkey... a hotkey refers to a shortcut to a command thats on a menu like that on the top of your browser with file and everything... it is MUCH more like a macro

zell12 03-07-2003 04:18 PM

Who cares, stop going off topic. >=O

Anyway, you regain grace when you pray, and also slowly right up to half of your total grace. You can pray to regain the rest. :)
Also, priests can cast prayers require more grace then they have if a god anwers their prayer. So the grace points are really flexable, unlike the spell points.

Kaiser2 03-07-2003 09:11 PM

Could you re-phrase that a bit? I feel as if I've been smoking crack my whole life and just recently stopped and I'm all confused now (for those who didn't interpret my statement correctly, I am NOT on crack, and I've never taken any form of drug in my life.)

Locke_boy 03-08-2003 02:41 AM

Praying not only restores grace, it restores mana and health as well.

Also, the only thing (aside from the pow stat and other obvious things) that slows mana regeneration is body armour. That's why I don't wear body armour at all anymore .. thank you, armour spell. If it's very important to you, save up and buy one of the magic+2 or +3 rings (expensive, but well worth it). I have a RoAM (magic+2, pow+1) a ring of Spellcasters (magic+1, pow+1), and my wizard hat (magic+1) .. when I wear all of those and pray .. my mana regen jumps up hugely, at around 2.5 mana per second.

Juron Pilo 03-08-2003 02:55 AM

huh? no it doesn't... not unless your praying at your alter anywho
