Magic books and Organization

ok I know everyones in love with the idea of having the books randomly appear in shops in order to simulate "restocking". Thats fine with me but I think at the very least shops would *always* stock up on both wizardry and priest spells *and* that they would always have at least one attack spell book available at all times. I mean c'mon what store sells books people don't use or need as often as attack spells? x.x

I agree with Juron even though I don't like him, he's got a point random shop items is stupid.. there should be shops that always carry certain things but make RoW like a quest item and RoF a quest item. etc.

I was thinking about this, and posted something related to this in another therad.

You guys realize Taranthia North sells the mundane attack spells constantly? An unchanging inventory? =_=

People are complaing that that shop sells things for to much.. Why buy a spell there when you can buy one in the south tarnathia shop for alot cheaper.

Tyhm 03-04-2003 03:05 AM

You guys don't understand the core concept of rarity, do you? You want all rare spells to be sold regularly in unlimited quantity for low prices in easy-to-find locations?

MKSLAYER 03-04-2003 04:03 AM

im with tyhm on this just look at today. you find somthing at like Ocean state job lot (dont ask) its like cheap like 5.00 for Mech Warrior 3 you go to Best Buy which always sells it its 40.00 bucks or so see the difference :-/

Kaiser2 03-04-2003 05:18 AM

Rarity, sure, but seriously, I see dumb spells that have almost no purpose being sold all the time, and they're like "level 10 build director" and stuff like that, sure the spells have some use, but very limited, and you can't even use them until you're high leveled in magic! x.x

Juron Pilo 03-04-2003 08:07 AM

my point is not that I want rare spells... but I want spells that I can at least KILL with... slow does me LITTLE good in battle if you see what I mean... and please, the storm and fire spells are a LAUGH now=P
yes the shop has 4 spells that are useually interesting... but most often its antimagic, slow, haste, amour, wall, summoning magic, healing spells, probe....
BTW if I recall that shop for some reason doesn't sell magic bullet/missile...
Anyways... Thym... do me a favor.... READ ENTIRE POSTS BEFORE MAKING A MESSAGE. Your a very intelligent person and I suspect we meet pretty eye to eye on more topics than you think but several times you've not completely read what I or someone else said and once in my binds post you claimed my words to be a lie. I realize that wasn't exactly the best put together sentance in the world... gimme a break I'm sleepy=P

Tyhm 03-04-2003 08:53 AM

Had you said "I want the spells to do more damage" I would have responded appropriately. Instead you said every shop should sell at least 1 attack spell at all times. Rather different.

Kaiser2 03-04-2003 09:41 PM

More Damage=good, it might balance out the rift between the Fighter and the Mage. Instead of that, maybe you can have "Prepare" a staff, and add on "Improve Magic Power" scrolls, that raise magic damage (yes I know this has been posted several times, and I've posted on a thread related to this, but it's a good idea and should be seen throught this board.) Also, an idea: A Black Magic Shop and a White Magic Shop
The Black magic shop sells damage doing spells, and the White Magic shops sells healing/protection spells.

I always thought the different levels of the spells served as an equivalent to improved dmg.... I.E. upgrading to cause crit from cause medium.... ect.... anyways there should be a requirement that you MUST have all the weaker versions of a spell in order to get the more powerfull ones... if we do that then I think even having non-random shops would be appropriate... but all I'm asking for here is just that 1 attack spell be available at the shop at any time=/ I'm sick of getting 6 or 7 hundred plat only to find the store has CRAP for sale(thats enough for most spells if you're charm raised). btw another problem with the constant priced store is that CHARM DOESN'T EVEN EFFECT IT. anywho.....

afterthought: for those that think only having 3 levels of spells vs like 9 I think it was for improve? anyways, for those who think thats unreasonable... consider the fact that we have aoes while they have none.... a lvl 3 touch range spell should be equal to a weapon improved to 9, missile spells equal to 8, aoes equal to 7.... lvl 2 should be 6,5,4 respectively and lvl 1 3,2,1 respectively...

what do you mean by "aoes"?
Also, charm does affect the prices of the top store.
I like the idea for requirements besides level to use higher level spells. Maybe, if you're not a sorceror, to use certain types of spells, you need to carry certain "charms" besides a talisman, like, to use fire-attuned spells, you use a Flame Charm, for info-attuned spells a Charm of Curiosity, etc.

Juron Pilo 03-07-2003 07:54 AM

aoe is a fairly common acronym for "area of effect" spells like snowstorm, small fireball and even aoes that have a focus around a person like icestorm and flaming aura

Juron Pilo 03-07-2003 07:59 AM

right... sorry... I either misinterpreted what somebody said in another post, got lied to, took something too literally, and in any case I forgot some data and didn't bother to research... thats the second time someone has called me and were, unfortunately, right-_-

Kaiser2 03-07-2003 09:07 PM

It depends on what you think you were lied to about

Juron Pilo 03-08-2003 02:58 AM

I'm sorry... lied to one one of only many possible situations... being that I don't know if I was lied to I can't say who did it can I?

Kaiser2 03-08-2003 03:58 AM

ok, WTF are you talking about now? I'm so, so, so confused now...
