Custom Rings / Idea for Jeweler skill
Well, I'm not completely sure what the Jeweler skill, if anything, currently does, but here's my idea for what it could do.
Ok, so say there is an option to craft an item known as "Ring" in the smiths, or even in a new place. Now, each ring is worthless on its own. But it has two slots. So with the Jeweler skill, into these slots you can put gems to add stats to the ring, like so. 10 Rubies adds Str +1 10 Diamonds adds Speed +1 10 Sapphires adds Magic +1 10 Emeralds adds Int +1 The "of Great Worth" versions (if you managed to get 10 of them and didn't sell them off for the plats), would add a +2 instead. It would make the Jeweler skill really useful, and also add a purpose to items like Rubies, Sapphires and Emeralds other than alchemy recipes and selling them off. Just an idea. |
Not a bad idea, but it'll need to be seperate from Jewler skill, because Jewler supposedly Identifies rings, etc. Though the idea is good. Maybe instead change it to a "Synth" shop, where you Synthesize rings, and the more different ones you make from the list, more options appear, until eventually you can make really good rings. I think it might be a bit unbalanced though, as more seasoned players can get the items easier to make rings with, though if they're already so strong, this wouldn't matter much, and since it's not based on exp or anything, a newer player can probably get these items for the rings just as easily.

No...everyone could have things like str+3,dex+2,con+3 with no negatives (such as RoC having - 20 magic resist and - int or wis)...hell people could make two rings...one like dex+8 and another with like con+8 >.< Things would be REALLY screwed...

o.O
No not those simple gems... More like a QUEST item gem... can only get one for your account. Maybe a mine quest...monsters inside, mine a rock for a person retrieve the Imbued Gem, either return it to the guy for EXP & MONEY, or keep it and use it for a ring. |
Hm. Could be interesting.
Jeweler - identifies gems. As all gems come identified, this is a totally useless skill. Thaumaturgy identifies wands, before you ask, and it doesn't help either - wands come identified also. Ringforging could be good though. Give an actual use to all these gemstones I keep lugging around. I don't know about int boosting - if I had a ring of int+4, I'd never fail a spell or scroll - but the rest sound good. What would pearls do? Wisdom? (Bad pun)... My concern - this will become another stratifying element between the rich and the poor. These gems, except for diamonds, are never mined - if this comes to pass, emeralds, saphires, rubies and pearls have to appear in newbie activities so they see some profit, and not just the already uberwealthy who routinely cut down skeletons and rexes for hours at a time while at no personal risk. |
This is starting to get complicated, which is a bad thing. Overall, maybe there should be no customizable rings, or at least no "single chance" thing, because those with multiple accts can make multiple rings, etc.
If this goes through though, here is a suggestion: Diamonds: Constitution Emeralds: Strength Sapphires: Power Rubies: Strength Pearls: Speed, or Dex, preferably Dex We'd need more gems then, to satisfy the other things, and it'd be that the cap stat for a ring would be 2 per skill, and you can't make it +4 by filling both slots with the same gem. |
Idea:
You could get a ring of adornment. A special skill scroll lets you enchant the ring with slots, like a weapon, but you have to use X number of these scrolls to get X number of slots, and the amount you can handle is based on MAGIC level (hey, sorcerer's need something good!), and then you add the gemstones to get stat points on your rings, but maybe more, 25 perhaps, but eventually you could get magic to a very high level and get lots of a certain stats (or a bunch of different ones), so you *could" get something better than a RoW or RoE, but it would be very costly, and maybe people would *gasp* start using magic a bit more, or give sorcerer's something that can atleast catch up with the +50 damage weapons that are starting to come around. |
Heh. Or let them use Prepare Weapon on wands and make Improve Magic Damage scrolls.

Well, that's how it works. If a mage hits with fireball, that mage generally wins. If that mage is then rushed by the survivors, that mage generally loses.
