Dismantling ships!
I think you should be able to destroy a ship with axes/pickaxes. Actually this thread will go into a lot of my ideas for boarding ships.
A PLANK on ships would be excelent, and no more boarding the ships by using the "ramming bug" technique. This would allow for MUCH more Rping on the high seas. A ship that is at about 5% less health than another shouldn't be able to board a healthier ship (obviously so that if a good ship captain is beating a ship with a level 20 guy, the level 20 guy cant just jump on the captains and kill him) Pushing people overboard should be some sort of option to, or some way to get people off of ships. Maybe if they can get a person to the front of the boat anyone can be pushed off in the front. There would need ot be some way to prevent abuse though. When pushed off, it could be like when your ships is blown up. It would place people at their last save point and say "You were thrown overboard!" Dismantling ships, as stated above, could be a cool RPing aspect. Smashin and chopping away with axes and pickaxes at their ship. Perhaps the mast could be chopped down like a tree? A good safeguard would be that ships only at 50% and lower could be dismantled. For each ship dismantled, depending on percent, you could get like 5-15 boards. These are just some ideas I had, these would make RPing on the seas so much better, even if just the plank alone is made! |
I agree.
I think that it would be good if that raming/boarding bug could be fixed altogether. I think the ship to move last should take the most damage in a ramming, to prevent people from getting 'ram happy', so the ship that steers to hit the other would be damaged most in a head on collision. Otherwise, the most damaged ship would be the one that hit the other bow first. (I think it would also be fun if the ferry just ran over ships, and blew them up in a huge explosion, with the ferry captian laughing to himself as he goes... but then idiots would move all the parked boats into the ferry's path for their amusement) Also, *please* *please* *please* *please* *please* have the 'leave' command take you to either the dock you are docked at or into the water right by the ship (if ladder is lowered). It would *really* *really* *really* fix the dock crowding that occurs. Oooh, and in addition to picks and axes, torches could burn the old boats, but then you don't get boards! |
Im all for this idea.

Well, I'm mostly indifferent to the idea, but I definitely think that you should be able to jump off the boat into the water nearby. I've wanted to go to the Far-Away Island (which most people don't know about nowadays) to get away, but I can't, because there's no dock there. Sort of silly, I think. I mean, really, why can't we jump off? If the water is very deep .. then perhaps .. you can only stay in that deep water for a certain amount of time before you get tired .. and then when you get too tired to stay afloat, you bubble underwater .. and then wake up at your last restart point (or the nearest coast) and it says something like "You wake up washed up on the shore.." or something, I dono, heh. Well, er, I'm done .. :megaeek:

I disagree, i dont even think the ramming thing should be considered a bug. It is very realistic, say your ship is about to be destroyed, ramming into the other ship is a great last ditch effort. The one problem with this is that someone who is a horrible captain but is a hugely powerful guy, can ram the other ship and sl;ay the captain, ths is unrealistic, so something has to be done about that.

im with feivel on this and also this isnt that good melicious people in kingdoms could destroy ships in the ship yard :-/
|
Ramming should do 1% damage to each ship per % of speed until one is destroyed or they're both at a stop. A 10% ship can ram a 100% ship at full speed and bring it down to around 90%, sacrificing the ship to go out in a blaze of glory. A 100% ship rams a 100% ship at 10% speed, both get knocked down to 90%...

It happens various ways, and it sucks. The ramming (I think) that you're thinking of is sort of RPish, since they lose health at the touch, and with cooperation can be unstuck. Quote:

Say both ships are moving parallel, and one accidently hits the sideways button, it gets like down to 5% because it was going fast, that'd be weird. |
Hm. Okay, how about this:
Each ship has an invisible field around the front of it, so: Ship: =>, Field: ) =>) If this field passes boat B, it does the following three things: Hits boat B for speed/2, hits boat A for speed/3, reduces boat A's speed by 50%. For as long as the field remains over boat B and boat A has speed, it continues do damage. So: =>) =>) No damage =>)(<= damages each, faster boat deals more damage than slower boat =>) - this boat does no damage A - this boat hurts that boat (and itself) Since boats have no turn radius and no reverse, they're not gonna hit with anything but the bow...so this seems safe. If you keep gunning it into the other boat, eventually the other boat will break (at great cost to your own boat). If two boats play chicken, the one that flinches first may take more damage for taking a side collision (or they may be ready with their cannons)... RAMMING SPEED! |
That's sounds good Tyhm! I hope Stefan adds some of my abov eideas and then the one with new ramming.
