Server pronunciation question...
I log on RC and I see "Galethia" in the serverlist. How in blue blazes do you pronounce this?
Is it "ga lee thee ah", or "ga leh thee ah", or "jah lee thee ah", or "jah leh thee ah", or what? I really don't like it when you can't even pronounce the playerworld name... especially if you think it's one thing and then find out like a year later that it's pronounced entirely different. :p Also, what about Rudora? Is it like "rude or ah" or is it "rudd or ah"? |
since the owners of galethia are german i'm thinking its
ga leet hee ah since a 'th' sound doesn't exist in german |

Not sure how to say it but in my head it's
"Roo-door-uh" and "Gal-eh-thee-uh" |
"Ga-leey-thiy-ah"
|
"Ruu-door-a" & "Gall-eth-ia"
|
"Roo-Door-Ah" -Spark & Kain
|
Well, I suppose a lot of people call Galethia differently..
|
I try not to think to hard about it. :p
|
Yeah but any work can be said differently depending on your accent. Also I think any idiot can pronounce Rudora.

lol, go houdini ;)
And Rudora is "Rew-Dour-Ah" ? |
Dude, we can't even agree if it's Grail or Grall.

I think it's supposed to be something like Grawal. |
Its Grail, although when I hear stefan say it, it was like Grall, but he has a different accent.

I pronounce it like Grall, just because people don't understand "I work on an online game. Grail." They blink at me. If I say Grall though, they're like Ah, okay, a game I haven't heard of. Whereas Grail is not the name of a game at all, or must be short for something, or something like that. But yeah, it's officially Grail, and we're all Gr-aliens.
|
It's graahl. To rhyme with "pall mall."
Get a copy of Monty Python and the Holy Grail IN FRENCH. The DVD includes a French soundtrack. It must be IN FRENCH to contain the pronounciaton of Graal. Play it and wait for them to say "San Graal" |
I know its 'Gra-yl' but when i first downloaded it I called it 'Graahl' :/ and I stick with the originalness O:
|
French dun matter yo, it was named by a German.
|
French matters to me :(

My pronounciation is rather French. And actually, it WAS named by a frenchman. Stefan once said that Unixmad suggested the name. I think Stefan wanted to call it Grail but Unixmad said name it in french so it'd be more original. Or somesuch. |
Um, Graal is like german/french for Grail, so either way would be correct. Although the spelling is in german/french so saying the actual name wouldn't be pronounced as "grail", it would be pronounced "graal" rhyming with ball, call, fall, etc.
Either way is fine I guess... I believe they chose Graal over Grail because Graal isn't used as much in the gaming field, and having the game just called "Grail" would be like calling it "Bowl" or "Cup". :p Any idiot wouldn't know how to pronounce Rudora, because it could possibly be pronounced as "rudd or ah" which sounds more british... or australian, or something. |

Atleast I learnt something today. Even though, I wish I didn't. Now every time I go to play Graal I am going to to debate it in my mind on how to pronounce it. THANKS ALOT KONI! |
yeah most people say grawl. I used to say it like that when I started, but now I just say it the english way.
Heh, pall mall :) good smokes |

Grail - A cup or plate that, according to medieval legend, was used by Jesus at the Last Supper and that later became the object of many chivalrous quests. Also called Holy Grail. |
it rhymes with ball because it's French. It's that simple. Graal. Not Grail, not Gral. Graal.
|
So its "Gr-awl" ? I always thought it was "Grayl" because it means Grail, so why would it be pronounced "Gr-awl"?
|
Grawl and Grail both are wrong, and the only true pronounciation is Grahl. In my opinion, at least.
Graal is pronounced like that both in German and French, as far as I know. |
