Guys, get a grip
Ok... I don't know if this is me being cynical but i've seen a lot of these fake reviews that are crap. I think i've found the problem with most of your guys' methods too... You start at 10 and you dock points for this and such...well, thats all good and fine but a lot of mediocre servers are going to get "passing" marks if you do the math, and then not when the players get on them. Now, this next part is advice for everybody, i'm not trying to prove i'm best at it... I do want to be a part of the PW team, but a couple people know and if they chose to spread the word about me that's their call. No use denying it, but this is honest advice to all you other people...
My system is more centered around a playerworld earning their marks, not getting deductions. I saw that post down there about Doomsday where the guy gave them a 7/10 and then listed a bunch of things to be improved. I agree whole heartedly with telling people what to improve, it's the only way they'll get better, but after hearing his comments i didn't know where he got his rating on "creativity" from... There were some things bad and good mentioned, but rather than saying "they have lots of common things, minus one" you all might consider an approach more like "well, they have the usual things so that doesn't get em any extra, however i liked <this feature> and <this other feature> so they get a couple points added on for that" So, lets say we have a server and we're doing the NPCs... They of course have all the "usual" weapons so for having the brains enough to get them there gives em 1 point (not much required to do this, but 1/10 isn't much either). they have a way for you to get the npc, +1 standing at 2. they all work on the npc server, +1 now at 3. hmm, let's see.. they've got a nice gui, that takes some brains and all the functions work on it to boot, +2 giving them 5. Maybe they have some nice unique weapons or maybe some nice script ganis to do cool things and no lag also, though many of you don't know what a script gani is sadly... they're great things. They'd get another 2 points for good use of code and good effects while they took care of issues that would interfer with players' expleriences. maybe they have good onwall for an npc, or good mouse detect for different screen sizes for some menu or such.... coming down to the "well, this is nice" points and what not, i'd probably give this server a 7.5 for npcs. I just hope that if one of you gets selected to be PWA that you don't go around handing out points for good effort and try not to let people down too hard. "You tried really hard but you need to do better" isn't going to tell them what they need to whip into shape. It's not your job to be nice, it's your job to help the people with skill get where they need to go and keep out the riff raff :) If you have a problem with what i've said send me a forum PM. Please, only post constructive replies. If i agree with an issue you brought to me in a PM i'll post it here with my response/revisitions. -HoudiniMan |
Your absolutely right! I think you should be a PWA now with that list you said. Good luck.
Also I hate when people say things like this: 'The servers is good but most of it is crap' That should be a blacklisted things for being a PWA. Just say what needs to be improved and say something like this: 'This server is very good, I hope you get your server to pass next time since you failed so keep up the good work! :)' and if you say things that needs to be improved are 'I like the quests but I think you should probaly add some trivia.' |
I totally agree HoudiniMan.
I mean servers like Doomsday have been around for about 18 months now, and we are constantly trying to improve levels and such. And for someone to come on and say omg your server sucks i fail you is degrading. They have no idea how hard we work behind the scenes. I recently asked one of Graals most talented scripters to help me with a project, so its not like we are stagnant. I appreciate constructive criticism and advice, and many will tell you i discuss the future of Doomsday constantly especially on our forums. Whoever is chosen for PWA i hope they are not judgemental but sincere in their advice. |
congratulations, another petty attempt at becoming PWA

Y'know what I think? No, you don't, so I'm going to tell you.
Interviews! Looking at the world files themselves is all fine and well, but it doesn't tell you about future plans or how the staff will handle the conversion process. Houdini, you mentioned some criteria for grading the world's scripting. One extremely important criterion that should be used is security. How many times have I seen client strings used for sensitive data? You don't know, but I do, and it is thus: TOO MANY. The server's scripters should be interviewed to see just how much they know about creating a secure client/server model etc. Nothing ruins a playerworld like duped items and cheating idiots. |
*****, since everyone started making review threads, and it no longer was "cool"
now everyone will make threads to say stop making review threads. Ur a "cool" guy. Brad>u |

Yeah thats a half good idea, But It could be better if they seperated it up, Like Angel is good at scripting, and so they get people who are good at other areas. And they all do a review. And they also do a review together. Like a final one. Just reviewing that area they are good in. Maybe if they did that first, and likenobody including review knew each others review of that section, and if it adds up to a pass when its all put together then the PW Reviewers can do sepeate ones. So heres it put simple:
Each person on PWA review on part IF the scores makes a pass when put them all together then they all do a sepearte review. Its just a mre accurate first review, to make sure worth while PWs get online. Not that there is a problem with current way, but its an idea. |

I blatantly stated: yes, i do want to be on the PW team, but this thread is not about me. Since there isn't a very big chance i'm going to be picked, wouldn't it be easier to see what all of you think and maybe the one who IS picked will learn something from suggested methods. Stop being an ass all the time :\ |

You can tell if something is scripted well if you have enough knowledge in scripting but levels and graphics are down to a matter of opinion so they would have to be more than one person reviewing them which could make the team rather large. Each person should just review everything then they add the scores together and take an average. If that passes the playerworld passes. |
And yet again the power of the pwa is corrupting you all.....

It would just be 10000 times better if Graal had a PWA team that worked at the office, so they could all sit down and review a playerworld together and come to a decision, instead of having to pass it around from person to person. Graal could improve so much if they invested money into getting a better located office and hiring people to actually work there.
I can't even begin to imagine the amount of progress that would be made. But alas, Graal won't ever reach those heights. :( |
I'd take that job anyday o.O
