Game Gifs

I see that this game uses GIF's alot and such.
I think all these gif's should be in 1 file so people arn't able to edit it and so my webgif's folder isn't flooded.
This is better I think.

Uhm. You DO know that gifs just got removed from graal for legal reasons, right? (From what I know, I've been seeing things turned into PNGs from GIFs around graal.)

yes, but there was a ruling (if i remember right) that stated the gif standard could not be copyrighted and the royalties compuserve was seeking could not be enforced (or something like that)...This means GIFs are okay, but not necessarily on Graal (depends on unix i think)

Your idea am dumb bc gifs have varying widths, heights and pallettes, some are animated and some are not, and if it was all one file then any one person trying to edit it would have to wait for anyone else on any server to finish editing before they could go. Further, unneeded gifs would be loaded into memory with the needed ones, and this One Single Gif would be a roughly 14.53 Megs (and that's just for Classic's graphics!) Finding the exact "file" you want would be a matter of searching the ubergif for the exact coordinates you're looking for, jotting them down, and plugging those into whatever npc you mean...

On the other hand, if they sold all the files in precompiled level (.code) and .png format on CD with the subscriptions, it could get people up and running faster...just install from CD and boom, it's as if you've already cached everything.

I agree with Thym. Also, if you don't want your webgifs folder flooded, and you're looking for a graphic, there's the magical "Find" stuff. Or, you can just hit a letter key to goto places easier in the folder.

Problem solved.
