Graal - First MMORPGs, now FPS?!
Unix openly announced (too lazy toget the link) that they based the graal 3d engine on Tribes 2. That means that graal 3d is basically going to be a FPS, in my eyes. Why can't graal be graal?
Yep. That's all I have to say. Now back to my forever gone state. |
Its uses the engine that is used in FPSs! It will still be a ROleplaying game, it will be 2002 but 3D Basically not a FPS
|
I wana make a mmorpg fps
With the new engine |

Torque, the engine they are using costs $100 if I remember correctly. |

I personally am open to the idea of being first person in Graal 3D, if that is even possible. I wouldn't mind something new at all

Um, the torque engine can make any 3d game. Not just a FPS. Besides, how many possible combinations could you make with Graal being 3D anyway? You have first person shooter, third person action, 3/4th, topdown, and isometric. I personally think it would be nice to have a versatile camera that could go in any of these views.
It's not like it's impossible to change a camera for christs sake. |

Okay, here's what I think you should do to give players the best of both worlds...
Make Graal 2k2 Peaceful mode the classic 2D theme where you spend most of your time doing quests and role playing...The Graal everyone is used to now... Make Graal 3D Kingdoms Battle mode. This will be where you make take full advantage of the Tribes 2 engine and create a totally unique way of battling...I don't know, just make it cool..heh Okay that's all I wanted to suggest. Comments welcome. Sir Pickles |
I still want Graal3d to be like Dynasty Warriors 3

How long can graal live off of the old style? Do you think new players will be attracted to the game just because it's always been one way? Newer players will be looking for something new and innovative, not being interested in the "way things are, the traditional Graal". How does Graal attract players 2-3 years down the road? The same old style? It won't live if it does that |

Edit: I didn't mean for you to go leave literally, it was a rhetoric statement, but you have very traditionalist values that will not stand up in the gaming community forever. |
I'm saying that Graal will never be able to be the best 3D MMORPG on the net, it just won't happen.

In the past few weeks IMG has been bringing you news updates on V12, the licensable version of the Tribes 2 engine. GarageGames has stated in the past that they are working on a Mac version of the engine, which will be be available to any developer for an amazing $100 license, assuming you're willing to let GarageGames publish any titles you might make with it.

Like I said before most MMORPGs are just one-player-games where the monsters are managed servers-side and you see other people from time to time. Graal is more based on player interaction and communication, we focus the Graal3D on that too. It's not a FPS either since you can do short-distance attacks too (sword).

Well thats slightly untrue to me I played several beta version and I was running into people left and right, and fighting with each other. Of course I only played a few beta version MMORPGs. Also I hope Graal3d has WAY better gameplay than Graal Kingdoms. Unless you are still going with that whole Graal3d is inside of Graal Kingdoms idea (which I must say is rather dumb) |

Almost ALL FPS have a melee weapon |
something like JK2 would be nice
first person for weapons that shoot and third person for melee weapons |

On 2K2 they're just pathetic NPCs though, and I haven't even seen one in the new Graal3D screenshots. |
