graal not what it used to be

i loved graal i been playing it for 4 years but over the time it has changed

i always like how simple everything was and not so complex

i miss old classic i think it was really cool but the new one is all technology

that pisses me off

i remember that 1 day the krakken quest worked and i went in the to kill that crab or something
and the lvl 3 sword was sacred

then came 2k1
it was really cool and always full until they kept recreating hats
and copying the old ones

yet... came 2k2 i dont like it that much

too annoying and too complex

i just wish graal was simple again b4 2k1
it was really cool

i remember all the pking and parties and when bomys were showed

the best of all was probably the wandering around and how cool the staff was

Playerworlds are REALLY low quality. Nothing to replace classic, which is pretty dead-esq right now.

AlexH 11-26-2002 05:08 AM

I doubt an old classic type of player world would get up.
The level standards have risen greatly so unless the server had great quests, NPCs etc it wouldn't get far. :(

The only reason I'm here today is because I enjoyed playing Classic. I liked logging on and just either sparring, pking or chatting. That's what I liked, the community sense and the fun of fighting. Getting hearts/items is more like a nuisance than anything to me, as well as annoying npcs (trident anyone?). What made the server fun was logging on and talking to friends, pking/fighting with your guild, sparring, pking, and other hijinks. I really disliked questing or anything liked that, i only quested to keep up with the current heartcount/swordlevel/sheildlevel. In fact, when i first started I had another person get all my items for me.

I hope I'm not alone when I feel that Graal is here today because of how much people enjoyed classic...how is used to be. But now it's changed. We have all these NPCs and this whole race system. Why change what has gained Graal the popularity it has earned over the years? I went on the other day after a year of not playing and found a certain number of players regain health when they kill you. Here I am with my 3 hearts (pk tag) fighting some 10 heart person who regains every heart (regardless of ap) after he hits me twice.

What classic has turned into really makes me sad. The team has worked very hard and made some very nice things, but classic should be classic, not some RPG mutant of which it has become.

Sorry to sound more like a rant than anything, but that's what I feel about the classic server and it's current state. I really wish I could go back in time to 1.31 which to me was the hightlight of my entire Graal experience.

I don't think thats true at all..In what way are playerworlds low quality? Many of them are better then classic, depending upon a player's preference.

Not all playerworlds are low quality. Albeit there are some of them that shouldn't be up there, there are quite a few of them that have done nicely. I've been on Era for the past few days, and even though they're far from complete, they have something that is different, and fun. Also, I've gone on different playerworlds from time to time, and some of them show good improvement, and some don't. Doomsday, and Delteria have nice content on them, and so does N-Pulse. And to the upcoming playerworlds that are in private, I do applaud them for getting as far as they are now.

Yes, Graal is changing. I for one was not here in those 1.31 days, so I cannot say that I appreciate what Graal was; though if I had the chance to experience playing in that peice of Graal's history, I would. However, it's not the levels, the npc's or the overall content: It's the community. For example, even though Mithica wasn't the most popular playerworld, it is where I played all the time. Other playerworlds had content that far surpassed Mithica's, but that didn't matter at all to me whatsoever, because I enjoyed Mithica's community.

Some people do not like how Graal has changed, and thus you have the oldbies leaving, and to take their place you have all these newcomers to Graal, whom will one day become legendary in their own right. What people seem to long for is lost friends who they once had fun with on Graal. They want that timeframe back so that they can be amongst familiar faces, having the fun they once did. Which is why I think (but could be very wrong) that if the community of Graal was a more stagnant one, then people wouldn't have that much of a problem with it's changes.

In my case, nope. I see plenty of old friends, and I meet new people all the time. I just dislike what changes that classic has gone through. If people want something else , they'll go to a playerworld. Many players played Graal because they liked the way things were, why do they have to change? I mean, logically if you have a product that is well liked, and you built an empire from, would you change that to something else, when people are happy with how it is?

That is EXACTLY what I want back, SICKENLY exact!

Brad 11-26-2002 06:38 AM

It was definately the community. EL had the worst levels/staff/npcs and yet it was SO much fun because of all your friends.

Tyhm 11-26-2002 06:57 AM

Community yes, but also newness. You can never have the newness back. Classic will never again be new to you the way it was when you just started playing. The old levels would not help this phenomenon...

Okay you nostalgic bunch. Who's heard of innovation?

Yes, innovation being Graal 2001 + 2002.

Delteria_Free18 11-26-2002 12:13 PM

I think the problem lies in the attitude of the staffers... too many mean people :)

I know as the old saying goes "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." And people loved Classic for what it was (in your case). But now, Classic isn't classic anymore, which for a lot of people dosen't feel the same. Graal is an ever-changing place, wether we like it or not. I personally don't like not having Mithica to kick back on, and I have yet to find a server which makes me feel like I'm at "home" when I'm on Graal. It is things like that which make me long for the past, but at the same time, Graal must grow to allure new people to play it as it's standards are always being pushed to newer extremes; and with those rasing standards, some people forget to appreciate the things that made Graal, well...Graal.

Griffyn 11-27-2002 11:37 AM

I could compare these kind of threads to PMS.

shaggy_elven 12-07-2002 06:08 AM

U KNOW GRAAL ISNT SUPPOSED TO BE IN A HIGH TECH TIME
classic is suppose to be MEDIVEL LIKE GOOD GOD @#@$#@$
was based off all rpg games including zelda
@@$@
i miss old graal
the guy who works on it now put up a buncha space ships

AlexH 12-07-2002 06:14 AM

Well if you really want an old feel player world try to make one.
But you will fail.
Like Tyhm said it's the newness of the game you miss and no matter what you do your neverb going to get that back.
The only things that are going to give that is new servers which are completly different from the norm, like Graal Kingdoms, but you don't seem to like that.

Spark910 12-07-2002 06:16 AM

The only reason you and everyone liked bomys as it hasn't been done before and was new, so everyone liked them. There hasn't been a new idea since.

Tyhm 12-07-2002 12:20 PM

I looked over the 1.1 level pack once. There were some good quests that I can't fathom why they were removed - it musta been some time before I started playing, the whole thing in L13...
but other things were removed for a good reason, and the aliens (spaceships) were there as early as 1.1, I fail to see how it's bastardizing the theme to build on that. Even Zol's Snow Town and the sodding CASTLE referred to the Aliens and their technology.

A lot of stuff was removed because it doesn't and didn't work right - that's life.

syltburk 12-07-2002 06:58 PM

I have a goal in graal, im not gonna leave graal if i didnt make it.
The only reason why i play graal.

Spark910 12-07-2002 07:46 PM

What goals are they, Jaffer?

brock128 12-08-2002 12:48 AM

About my playerworld comment: I ment the CURRENT PLAYERWORLDS. Nothing is really matching the quality. For some reasons, it could be the community, the lack of staffers, the lack of new things, no guide to the quests (Where are you supposed to go?)

Many things. All in all, I want more servers like classic.

Link188 12-08-2002 12:59 AM

The point is that times change... The only way to get that full-classic effect now is to go back in a time machine before n-pulse and play.

To be Staff on every server, and help every server so graal can get better.
I will not quit until i helped every single server, not even graal2002 .

Ofcourse, Private or servers on the server list.

Kuza 12-08-2002 06:12 AM

it's imparative that everything advances. there is little to speak of on the subject at hand. follow my lead... give up and linger in the shadows of a once great game, pondering if the greatness will return in spite of the mistakes that still plague it today.

Then remake classic with 2002 graphics and modified npcs.

You don't need to be staff on a server to aide them.
